Hi, dont give up, Its not reason to get stuck. I will tell you one story .... My friend Jason, two years ago start his own business, he like quick money, he start buying faulty goods like iphones ipods tv's ... He has no electronics knowledge, i was telling him to start learning electronics, i even bought for him electronics components for learning and playing ... he didn't listen, hes saying has no time for that because he need to make money .... One year after the business was shutdown. So try to get your mind out from money making, and invest in yourself, thats the best money to be used

Most of us have closed the shop,but you can learn and experiment easier in your home rather in the shop and a glorious comeback may come soon.Greetings from Greece.Once you have learned television repair especially older ones then you can learn almost everything in electronics.

@rayg2317
@rayg2317 6 лет назад
wondering....could you drop in a resistor to put the screen at say 80% brightness? if so what value would you use? thanks for your videos
@poptartmcjelly7054
@poptartmcjelly7054 6 лет назад
The brightness pin receives a PWM signal that it filters into a smooth voltage from 0 to 3.3V so for 80% you would need the pin to receive around 2.6V, or connect the enable pin through a resistor divider to the brightness pin, about 1k from enable into a 4k to ground will give you 80% brightness.

Amazing how you can trouble shoot laptops even without schematics! Most people would get completely lost looking at the board behind the LCD. I know I don't have a clue - luckily it turned out to be a broken flex cable.

Hello Sorin, I am trying to debug the similar issue on one of my laptops, interestingly the screen also looks similar to the one in this video... in my case the situation is reverse, BL_EN is zero, while PWMBL1 is 3.2 volts 😇. I tried shorting them and also tried bridging 3.2 volts from another vcc* test point but it still doesnt light up. I connected another lcd as well and found the same result, no backlight but picture is there .... I am thinking of changing the display cable ... any thoughts?

I assume I could add a diode instead of short between the pwr and brightness to drop the 3.3v slightly for less than max brightness. Is that correct?
@thingshappen9199
@thingshappen9199 4 года назад
I don't like the idea if max brightness at all times. This is something that could be fixed some other way.

Sorin, did you check with a known good working screen to test? In my experience some backlight issues are due to the screen board and not laptop motherboard. I recently have had 2 such laptop screens that the backlight has failed, but with a new screen those laptops worked fine. Both cases I ended up buying the laptops from the customer as they didn't want to spend to have a new screen put in or the old ones repaired. In another case I replaced the screen without removing the battery which resulted in me frying a resistor next to LVDS cable (Compaq) and no backlight. So the problem in this video and my 2 laptops seems to be the resistors on the screen board next to test points have failed?

@orange11squares

you can add a variable adjustable resistor so that you can adjust brightness as you wish....more work but not that hard.
@zyxnull
@zyxnull 5 лет назад
That's a good idea, however I believe a PWM generator is what you need here (as that's the signal it receives)
@eman59461

If the 19 volts was missing u would not have a image on the screen. The 19 v powers a circuit that drives the LCD panel drivers. SO its the boost converter IC that drives the LEDs.

Help. I have an HP 11x360 that only powers up (and runs fine) with the internal battery disconnected and AC power connected. I get a "no battery detected" message when I reconnect battery while it is running. Tried all the hard restarts and uninstalling acpi battery software with no luck. The battery is a 2 cell 7.2 volt li-ion with only .25 volts of power left. The battery socket on motherboard has three pins with 3.2 volts. I am thinking the battery charging circuit is bad. Thoughts? Thank you.
@electronicsrepairschool
@electronicsrepairschool 6 лет назад
just replace the battery
@daleschneider1573
@daleschneider1573 6 лет назад
Thank you. I will try that. I was thinking that the voltage required to charge battery would be closer to 4 or 4.25.
