The old "person A will bring the money and then person B will pick up the item" has another variation, where person B shows up early and asks for the item before the money has arrived. They will then try to pressure you into giving them the item.

All of Facebook is now overrun with scammers. It's gotten as bad as Craig's List.

This second type of scam happened already to my friend somewhere in 2016 on amazon or ebay, when he wanted to sell his iphone. He also received fake confirmation from bank, with typos ;) when we told scammer that its not correct, he just simply apologise and send another one with corrected data. We played a little bit around with him, he said he would never cheated on us, because he believe in god and got some values, or other shit. At the end transaction never happened, but we were confused at the beginning, when my friend first received his messages.

I get a dozen of scam messages every week on the charity Facebook page. I think it is a shortfall of Facebook safety that should be addressed ASAP...

The first scam, I never do anymore. I go to them or meet outside. But preferably where they live so if they tried to scam me, I'd have their address, but they wouldn't have mine

It’s better to keep them going. You make them waste their time and they have less time scamming other people.

By the way, I forgot to mention in my last post that when I seen the title of your video ("The Most Dangerous Side Hustle") that I immediately assumed it was going be something about standing on top of a house to power wash the roof ... or standing on ladders to clean the gutters of a house. Those can actually be quite dangerous side hustles in themselves. All it would take is one wrong move and a person could be laying in a hospital bed for a couple of weeks (if not even worse).

If anyone has a problem with their bank account, THEY need to contact their bank...you never have to feel you need to pay them. You were never paid. Great advice with this video and adding no emails required.

Omg thanks for this! They are everywhere. Even on the trains in London they get on give you a note with a packet of tissues and the note says can you spare any money etc etc.. .. and give u a sob story. Then another person gets on later on with the same sob story and tissues. Every time people give them money!! They are nicely dressed usually too! the other one going round on fb is someone posts that they’ve found a necklace and does it belong to anyone. Then later on you see the same post but it relates to a different area in the UK the after people have commented on it they change the original picture to something else to scam people with - usually it’s to sell an item etc and with the comments already people fall for it

Hi Shimmy email from address also can be faked, nowadays it's more difficult because if the real company has made the right steps, gmail for example will flag as scam, but still a thing, it's also scary that even non native speakers can make perfect scam emails using ai

Great video! I've been putting off selling my stuff because I don't want to deal with these situations. Great for avoiding scams, but slowly turning me into a hoarder.

You meet at the bank. Security guard standing next to you. Then deposit your money. You'll find out quick if there a scammer.

Happened with me when someone wanted an item on Etsy. So I'm reluctant to go forward with Etsy. Ps your last response on this video was priceless.

I have not had a FB marketplace scam, but I do appreciate the information. I have run into other scams though.

the last one you mentioned has happened to me twice. they offered to pay a higher price, but first you must offer exact addresa and personal details. i always pretend to be too old to understand how to actually write out the detais without my grandson's help, and i of course report them, because an older person could genuinely fall for it.

That fake mail pattern is common. I got scammed of $200 in 2020 on fiverr. It was my tech junior bro, that showed me what i missed. Damn, i felt bad. Now i know better 😄

I had to sell 1bed apartment worth of stuff on FB.. luckily from the storage unit. Meet in public places for the small items… Once, someone started very sweet, polite conversation over swimming cap I was selling, which somehow brought to asking me to assist with the money for their long uber trip… 😂

Always insist on payment by either cash or Revolut or PayPal.

God.. that is scary!

An additional part of the last scam is that they say they will send DHL to bring the money and the driver will give it to y, but DHL only does it for insured items. They send you an email from DHL (a gmail address 🤣) with a bank account to pay the “insurance” to and they will pay you the money back including the item price. 🤣🤣🤣 I had numerous ones like this.

I would make sure the payment came through, too, before I would give them any address.

Lately I've had lots of emails from FB with verification codes to change my password. When I never asked to change my password. Clearly someone is trying to hack my account 🙄

I get the 3rd one every time I list something on marketplace. I just say I will only accept cash on pickup. They soon go away.

People will scam folks selling an old Desk Fsn for 2 Quid...its ridiculous..... I only ever shop on ebay these days as i KNOW i have buyer protection, i got scammed out if £112 for a Retro Alienware Laptop... thankfully eBay protection kicked in and i got the money back but it sucked..... because dammit i wanted a retro Alienware for my collection! Wasn't all bad...i found another for £99, didn't work but whatever it looks cool. 🙂

Ok, I don’t understand the benefit of the last one. Why would you want to know that the home owner is home? You’d think it would be easier to boot in a random door where you think nobody is home. If you meet there to buy an item, there’s obviously going to be someone home. Just seems dumb. I mean, if you’re breaking in to steal stuff, why not just boot down a random door or a random house? Why go through all the work of making a fb listing just to guarantee that you’ll need to confront the homeowner AND know there’ll be witnesses and an assault. Seems like it would add more problems

Shimmy, thanks for this. We have sold stuff on Market place, but only after lots of scammers wanting to pay after picking the items up and lots of time wasters. I hadn't thought about the scary side of this and after hearing your first story at your flat (bless your heart) I will never sell on there again.
