Oh wow I'm actually surprised one is able to disentangle Rykard like that. I figured his model would be like a solid, "stuck together" model, but it's pretty cool to be able to see it in its entirety like this. So much detail went into it, clearly.
making it one solid model would probably also have been much easier to animate. Fromsoft went the hard way and had to a) turn the model into a tangled knot and b) functionally animate said tangled knot and still make it look amazing
Marika's Family: Werewolf Master of Death Gold dude who died first Horned cuck Bloody pedogay Blind redhead babe with rotten cunt Eternal shota Oh and there was also that freak, no-one cares about, with many arms
@@grandvalentine6942 nah Gameinformer interview titled "George R.R. Martin May Be Shocked To See What His Elden Ring Characters Have Become" You're welcome.
One of the most horrifying things I’ve noticed about Rykard is the fact that his arms and legs, if they were in any way natural, would be sprouted across from each other rather than displaced across his body to create the illusion of some form of symmetry. They’re just slapped onto the snake at random places. It’s just another unnerving detail.
It's because they aren't even slapped onto the snake, they're coming out of the parts of the snake that are opened up, along with all the other squirming half-digested hands. They're probably troll limbs from the troll(s) he ate. It's honestly beyond unnerving.
Actually they are not random, he was meant to be fought in a curl up state so they are placed like that to create some form of symmetry in that state. Stretching him out will break that and make it looks like it's random
@@rudley8070 well yeah from a design perspective, that’s blatantly obvious lol. But the fact that they sprout from random places despite the coiled nature of his body just to “appear” symmetrical makes it all the more disgusting.
@@billgates9778 In many ways, Rykard is a parallel to Godrick the Grafted, in that they sought to gain power by taking it from others; the only difference is that Rykard consumed them instead of grafting them onto his body. It's an internal assimilation, rather than an external one. Another parallel is that because this attempt to surpass their innate weakness is so unnatural, it makes them misshapen monstrosities that have no real sense of symmetry, and imbalanced in the sense that while they may be more powerful, they're far less articulate, which ironically makes them rather weak in comparison to the overall power they have taken.
@@LabTech41 See, it’s funny that you mention the motivation behind their transformations because, from what I can tell with volcano manor and Tanith, he didn’t do what he did to seek power, but to act as a true threat against the greater will. He wants to devour the gods in order to escape the fates left in store for them in a similar way as to how Ranni does. Although I’m not 100% on this of course lol, I know for certain that Rykard didn’t think of himself as weak though
Rykard's fight is a moment I'll never forget. After the initial shock of phase 2 change wore off it truly felt like I was fighting something Satanic and supernatural that is far beyond my grasp. That flaming skull attack, the sky changing to a fiery red, and the musical peak made it as though I was in a battle against something that actually exists in the deepest bowels of hell.
It's kind of poetic, in a way. He's part snake. Snakes have long been seen as creatures of evil, and the fact that Rykard fed himself to the God-Devouering Serpent under Volcano Manor and became one with it, you would almost think that was the intention of the encounter; you're fighting something so incomprehensibly evil it's as if you're battling the devil himself.
I have no idea how many super geniuses it took to animate that mess. They found a way to animate a literal knot AND give it arms and legs AND give it stretchy weight and power. It looks amazing, each and every animator deserves a raise and reserved spot in rykard's belly.
Streached Rykard makes me feel two ways: A little disappointed the we don't get to see him like this in game. Glad that we don't see him like this in game because it's pure nightmare fuel.
I was always a little disappointed that the big snake in Sekiro was literally just a big snake with nothing really creative in it's design. Rykard however is by far the most creatively designed "snake boss" I have ever seen, truly one of Fromsoft's best designed characters.
Sekiro isn't supposed to be as creepy as other fromsoft's games as most of it were referenced to the myths or representations of certain myth. Creating a nightmare fueled snake would somehow break that
@@vittxrio5198 doesn't have to be creepy, the Divine Dragon's design is absolutely amazing. Im just saying there's nothing really unique or distinguishable about the giant snake's design, putting it next to the giant ape or the giant carp it really shows. Honestly, even the God-Devouring Serpent's design is unique on it's own let alone when Rykard shows himself.
What I find interesting is how the little hands and arms look like they’re forcing their way out of the serpents body. It seems like it’s tearing it apart. Makes me wonder how many more heroes the serpent could eat before it gets completely torn up.
If you think about it, Rykard/the God-Devouring Serpent is supposed to represent/be based off of Nidhoggr. In Norse Myth, Nidhoggr is an immense, monstrous serpent that dwells at the roots of Yggdrasil, the World Tree. He resides within the greatest depths of Hel, one of the Nine Worlds, and realm of the dead. There he gnaws at Yggdrasil's roots, slowly but surely killing the mighty tree that also serves as his prison. The souls of the dishonored dead - oathbreakers, criminals, thieves and the like - were fed bodily to Nidhoggr and be digested within his gut for an agonizing eternity. Given all the mighty Recuscant, Tarnished-slaughtering "Champions" standing against the Erdtree that were given audience with Praetor Rykard, only to be consumed by the serpent and "Become Family," it seems a fitting comparison.
eeeeeeeeeh, I’d have to go with good ol’ placidusax, his attacks are all so massive and powerful, not to mention he is the only boss who can mimic kamehameha cheesers exceot he does it twice at once, and Ik you all probably already know this but he’s missing like 4 wings and abt 2 heads from a fight with Godfrey and malenia (I think) so imagine him in his prime
it didn’t click until watching this, but the way Rykard’s face deforms and melds into the Serpent’s body, that layering and scaled look- We see it in The Prince Of Death, too.
Phase 2 cutscene basically: "Let me introduce you to a concept that I am a great fan of. I am sure you'll love every second of it. It's very popular on the internet and it's callled Vore."
Rykard wasn't greatly touched on but I think that makes him so much cooler than a lot of the other shardbearers. Gideon tells you that he committed blasphemy, and a lot of item descriptions and dialogue from NPCs up to that point portray him as a real bastard. You don't know what he did, just that he did something horrible. Then you get to the Volcano Manor, and see the cultlike following he has. Then you find out what he did, and the implications are just as disgusting as his form. He consumed anyone who tried to stop him and added them to his mass, and it almost seems like remnants of them are still alive, even in his blade with the serpent tongues and arms trying to work their way out
That's exactly what i expected to see here: Rykarpent uncoiled. I was wondering if it's actually one long snake curled up or just a bunch of random "pieces" of snake put together to look like it's coiled... and as always, FS doesn't doo half measures.
@@Mikey-ve6wd oh yeah, i noticed it, it kinda doesn't bother me, i just stated that i'm amazed that it's actually an entire real snake curled up, and not just random pieces of snake put together to look like it's a whole snake curled up... you know what i mean? :V Like, i wanted to see the entire snake straighten up/ uncurled just as he showed it here, as for the entire fight he is coiled up and i couldn't figure out if it's really just one long snake or a few pieces of snake put together.
Someone was literally off the tits making this. The more I looked it the less I wanted him to exist. Absolutely grotesque but amazing character design. Thanks,Miyazaki I fucking hate it, and would kill him again, with fire in a dlc.
Astel is more Disgusting in my opinion. Rykard is an interesting character though. We know very little about him compared to the other demi gods, but what we do know is that he was aware of Ranni's plot. He even likely supported it to some degree, And clearly he must've been a very powerful demi god at that, considering Ranni seemed to think he was able to defeat Malekith and she provided him with a tool to do so. It makes me wonder if we'll see more of him in the future DLC's. Also, His "corpse" seems to still be partially active. Perhaps he was right when he said a serpent can never die?
Astel is literally a giant space insect with a disheveled human face with giant pinchers on it. His torso is see through and loaded with rocks that just barely fit in it. His arms are shriveled up and distorted like the rest of his limbs. He's literally the definition of a grotesque cosmic entity.
The reason why it causes so much feels into the people it’s not the fact that it looks and acts like a snake, but acts like some kind of malformed organ, pulsating with life but in a unnatural way.
As I went through the fog and saw the serpent, my first thought literally was like: "What is this giant slimy fist? What kind of a boss is that, where is the cutscene?"
I find it weirdly fascinating that despite the chaos and horror of the God Devouring Serpent, the limbs are in the correct order. Even as out of whack as they are, it goes head, arm, arm, leg, leg, as if Rykards body bust out at appropriate points.
We killed him with a spear designed to kill him, so I think most of his body was actually destroyed besides his face area. Even with that in mind, she's eaten ALOT of his face, shit is nasty
I like to imagine Rykard has scrawny little legs underneath his mass of snakes, and that sometimes he has to lift up his snakes like a skirt to walk around. Edit: Okay I now notice that he actually does have those legs, guess I was too busy running from his flaming skulls to really notice.
what do you mean with DISGUSTING? he is full of bling my man, look at them rings. I guess we know who will not be invited to join the serpent king as family.
If you look closely look at rykard hands (the one wielding the sword) you will notice that he have 7 finger's interestingly Godrick have 6 finger's maybe it means something or it's just just for the sake of design choice
Godrick’s 6 finger arm isnt even his tho. But rykard’s hands definitely have some connections with the hand spiders, perhaps they spawned from him chopping off his own hand?
Guy's literally erupting open with all the people he's devoured in his second form, he's up there with Gaping Dragon and Ludwig in terms of "The Hell am I looking at?" boss design
Rykard grafted himself into the snake by getting eaten, and now the lord of blasphemy eats the strongest knights of the maner to graft them into itself to get even stronger
doing gods work as usual, i hadn't thought about it but it really puts into perspective how freaky he is seeing how haphazardly distributed his limbs are
You know what gives me chills more than his appearance? His story (mostly the part where he willingly feds himself to the serpent) i really dont know why
I've always felt Rykard was Gaping Dragon levels of repulsive But uncoiled Rykard... that's a whole other level of cursed, truly a blasphemous affront to the gods
It's interesting that the Putrid Tree Spirits are all snakes with two arms, and branches growing out of their bodies in a weird mirror of this. I'm curious how similar they are all stretched out like you showed Rykard at the end.
Man thanks for doing this. I was so entranced in the fight didnt have time to take in all the details. Creativity and artwork is crazy in this game.Keep em comin 👍
Omg he is a mess of a nightmare I’m not fan of the blood tentacles. They are a perfect bit of horror. But I think I can’t stand him the most is when they are just coming from his head only while Tanith is trying to eat him. Also Margit/Morgott next/upcoming??
They acxually arent tentacles. If you look closely they are 3 headed snakes. The Iron Virgins (those metal women with Bloodborne Pizza Cutters on their hands or the big blades) serve Rykard and deliver him bodies. And if you look closly you can see those tenticals that come out from them are ecxacly the same as rykards. You can clearly see that they are snakes.
Seeing all the flailing bits of those devoured really makes me second guess my first dismissal of the warrior jars being made by those at the volcano manner.
something I notices: most of the limbs stuck to his sword have two fingers in sort of a two pronged fork shape. the gelmir staff also has a two pronged shape. I like to think this was intentional.
The thing that impressed me was seeing the serpent killer from the side. Dang, now I see how it hit from this far away. I knew that it extends by a solid length, but this... How long is even this? Like - 15-ish meters?
This is truly disturbing and hard to watch and hear without feeling little nauseous and repulsed. And the close up on Rykards eyes coming to life and the sounds are creepy and quite repulsive.
I legit haven't met anyone who dislikes Rykard. Such a well designed gimmick boss with memorable dialogue. Whenever I ask my friends if they wanna join me in battle against him, they're always shoutin', "Oh- HELL YEAH!"
No wonder Ranni would have used Rykard against Malekith if Tarnished failed, he is huge and has a giant sword and also uses magic from hell and around him those fires that prevent a person from getting close to him and maybe his skin is hard and strong against the weapon
she didn't want to use him. they had an alliance before shattering to steal run of death since they probably both wanted to start a war after that Ranni gave him the protection-thing and then they likely parted ways. And with how things are now i doubt Rykard and Ranni would cooperate.
@@marcinkrz3140 don’t think Rykard really is that bad of a guy. Think clearly now he’s most likely lost his mind a bit with greed but ranni and him had good intentions. And I think Rykard does want people to share in eating the gods with him, but clearly he’d be in control
his design reminds me of aldrich, i mean, both him and gwyndolin were eaten, but rykard is in control of himself, and now wants to be a devourer of gods
