That’s precisely what he needs, not Dr. Phil the fake doctor the fake psychologist who likes to exploit, embarrass, expose, shame, scold his patients. This is the exact opposite of what a therapist need to do to help someone who struggles with mental health issues.

True. Dr Phil only has one solution for everything "discipline". At least he suggested a psych hold so actual professionals might see him. But sadly it most likely wont help unless he's actively making threats. I'm sure there were sings of mental issues when he was still under parental control that were ignored, back when meaningful mental help could have been given.

Legally I can't diagnose but I manage the care like oversee progress made and lacked as well as teach basic skills for semi independent living and eventual release of the program. I'm the first stop CM (case manager). Many of these have a main diagnosis with underlying diagnoses IE paranoid schizophrenia with depression.

@@Fearsia but also my HUGE complaint is we just do it to give a label to bill on. Not even remotely what happens. If we diagnose and its wrong we could give the wrong meds and really mess someone up. Phil should know that but guess he forgets or doesn't care that much. Great example is Ritalin. If our doctor goes off ADHD "label" and you don't have it because we just slapped the label, we are essentially giving you speed. You may react like you're on speed vs a person with the actual diagnosis.

I completely agree but I think mental healthcare should be taxpayer paid so there’s no insurance bullshit. Also, there are therapists and psychiatrists who will give you a more severe diagnosis for extra money. There are unethical mental health professionals

What do you think about the vast majority of peer review coming out of your field is incapable of being replicated meaning the majority of what the profession is based on is a lie? Its by far the worst replication crisis of any "science" out there. Worse off I have yet to talk to a single shrink that knew fuck all about neurochemistry which by far is the most scary proposition of them all as they are clueless about much of the medication and tinkering they are doing to peoples brains, many times children, with no knowledge other than superficial knowledge at best. Those boxes as dangerous as hell as they regularly place totally different chemical imbalances into the same exact box. Boxes which specific medications are thrown into and approved by insurance companies and kickbacks. Its scary, you picked a scary ass field that is currently in a scary ass shape and likely the largest reason there are mass shooters left and right. When you play game genie with someone's brain yet just put in random codes rarely does the game ever work right afterwards. Sadly however its needed so please, please just try to keep this in mind when I say do better. Not only try to do better than what currently passes as psychology these days but force your peers to do so as well. PS: For the love of all that is holy refrain from prescribing SSRIs, they are something that should rarely if ever be given to someone yet its the fucking go-to for the field since anything that actually makes people feel better is labeled as "abuse potential" and they need to go for the thing that makes them feel nothing at all.... until they do, at which point people get hurt. Such awful drugs and literally would be safer prescribing crack to people.

Weirdly enough, it’s actually the total opposite for lots of really severe disorders, like personality disorders. For years I have known, and have used my psychiatric degree to basically pre diagnose myself, have to wait 5 years to find a doctor who has any idea of what they’re doing, go to the wrong type of therapy and get traumatized, THEN get formally diagnosed by a personality disorder specialist with BPD. You literally have to know the diagnoses like the back of your hand to get that label slapped on you, just so insurance can help pay for your visits, and you get documentation to show others too.

I can say that man needs serious help, but I doubt very much he wld take any prescribed therapy course serious. Dr.Phil is recommending a 5150 hold because hes not a Psychiatrist as you said and only a Psychiatrist in CA can diagnose his mental illness. I have a real issue with him saying he just needs a label of any mental illness slapped on him so he can be treated through his insurance and not out of the moms pocket. That mom may love her son but she needs to cut ties w him sadly, because when the money runs out and she has no back up plan for herself I have a feeling he'll steal from her or hurt her in some way. I hope she can get the courage to help herself. Hes not hurting only himself but everyone around him.

Once you have a PhD you are always entitled to the title "Doctor." A degree is permanent once achieved. Licensure by a state is a separate issue. Poorly educated people never understand that
