It makes the most sense to do that. Having a team that knows each other and have not only played together but recently won the overwatch league together means that they have probably 10 times the synergy as any other team

Only Lip and Finn. Doesn't mean anything, just found it interesting. I guess the Dallas boys are just...Fearless. ;)

It's because Chinese Taipei is what Mainland China calls Taiwan because they don't recognize Taiwan's independence.

@@360mew9 its so Taiwan is allowed to participate in sporting events separate from China. They aren’t allowed to internationally represent themselves as Taiwan in sports, so the have been calling themselves (in various events/sports) Chinese Taipei

@@chris-hayes You seem to be mistaken. Blizzard isn't making anyone do anything. the "allowed" part is in regards to CHINA allowing it. This is a decision made long ago before there was overwatch. The teams choose their name to be this way so they are allowed BY CHINA to participate in world events.

I think vs Philippines was even shorter. Full hold on CR map and then on attack they touched with contest and won instantly, lol. "C99" the casters said.

They had an even shorter one on the same map (Circuit Royale) against one of the other APAC teams, iirc. Can't remember which match for sure (vs Philippines?), but full hold on CR, then on attack I think Hanbin rolled out with the orisia spinny spear, and TOUCHING point was all they had to do to win, lol. Shortest match ever!

If anything Sombra is still really good right now and u have the best sombra on ur team. Regardless of all this, Korea is still winning everything, easily. They hv 3 Atlanta Reign players, upgraded their tank (best winston in the game rn), the other dps got downgraded compared to Stalker in Sparkle, but he's still like a pretty good dps. They also hv Hanbin just in case they wanna play off tanks, and Finn if they want to play double flex. Korea literally could field like probably 3 different rosters and easily win world cup. Usa lost to the likes of nyxl, yes they switched up the roster, yes super is back in now... but it's still not gonna help much. The only other team who could maybe win would be China, but even then Spark (who is mostly team China) got beat quite easily by Atlanta (who is mostly Korea with a better tank and worse 2nd dps) Korea games are not gonna b fun to watch, and it'll be a boring finals

@@NaruBrilu World Cup doesn't finish until BlizCon, so plenty of time for patches before SK and USA go against each other. From interviews with the SK team, the only teams on their radar appear to be USA and Saudi Arabia. I don't think they are worried about China at all.

While I hate Blizzard, you can't actually fault them for this. Ever since Taiwan was expunged from the UN like 50 years ago and the West has been bootlicking China, it's against international law for official sporting events to reference Taiwan in any capacity (name, flag, anthem, etc). The term "Chinese Taipei" allows Taiwan to actually participate in events separate from West Taiwan.

All sports teams out of Taiwan have been referred to as Chinese Taipei for the past 40 years.

They usually save those skins for Blizzcon (way too many countries to do that now), even previous world cups the teams used default skin in qualifiers

Ya like the guy above said, they'll have it once the matches go into brackets. Waay too many games being played to do that in round robin. That's also why it's only a first to 2 map wins instead of 3 like normally

It's a lot more cost for not that much return on investment. Each stream would b longer and the results would all be the same basically too. US, Canada, UK, Korea and China dominating every other team and moving forward. I mean heck this is almost all formalities at this point, Korea is gonna easily win and all of their matches r gonna b stomps
