Special thanks to Zack for editing today's video - I had no time to edit and he bailed me out. Check out his channel and subscribe: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lZPeimesTgc.html I know the style is different, but there is NOTHING on this topic.
I love the freaky shit in Legends. I am so glad Lucasfilm decided to have freaky shit in Canon as well. Speaking of which... You should really do a video on freaky shit in Canon. Good examples that come to mind are the Ovanis creature and Ravna.
Legends really had something for everyone; futuristic sci-fi, epic magical fantasy, horror...Disney canon is like 90% rebels vs stormtroopers, and it doesn't seem to be changing. :/
Add to the fact that legends had shown the "bad guys" perspective often and showed the "good guys" as evil. Disney usually just sticks to the concept that only one side is good and another is bad.
@@imperialofficerremusblackw8452 Tbf, the expanded material in canon does the same thing, especially in books. Even Rogue One showed the Rebellion as not being so squeaky clean. The rest of the Disney Star Wars films have been shite, though.
Well, there is a fungal infestation with force power taking cybernetics people as host to continue its crusade... But, yeah, for now, there are creating the foundations so they don't stray too far from what ovies shown us.

Now go..." *Imperial Grand Admiral shaking* Grand Admiral: "It shall be done my lord ! I will rally the Dread Fleet at once."
Starweirds are still the spookiest thing to me. Just the thought of being in a small ship going through hyperspace and some fucked up skeleton thing just appears behind you.
What about abeloth, at least if you have the force or a forcefield you can have somewhat of a chance but with abeloth she will just kill you regardless of your power
The thing that creeps me out even more is the way "mnggal" is read in my langguage is as an abbreviation for the word "menggal/memenggal" which means to decapitate.
I absolutely love the fact that the Mnggall-Mnggal is so Lovecraftian! It really gives a whole new perspective on the Star Wars Universe in my opinion, and It really disturbs me that this being inflicts such a terrible fate unto people who unfortunately come across it for pure enjoyment. It really sends shivers down my spine! :)
@@coralbricks People shitted on Waru and the Crystal Star but I absolutely loved it. The weirder to me, the better ! The Mggnal Mggnal is truly a being of fear, dread and delicious terror. Such a being that inflicts terror would make a great asset to The Dread Master 😏
Mac Anderson yet I still see fanfics of people justifying the defeat of Warhammer 40k, one guy made a fic where a CIS ship gets stuck in the 40kuniverse and survives chaos encounters with just droids
@@Taboose7665 do you serious underestimate me that much? To put down a monster you use monster tactics some might say the death star was a horrible machine it is like a monster thus use the death star to blow it up. That is just one idea.
Would it be morally unethical to destroy something such as the Mnggal Mnggal, it being completely horrific and disturbing as it is? Let me rephrase, would the Jedi see it as morally unethical?
You could say it is unethical to allow it continued existence seeing as the only thing it wants to do is eat you and mess with your mind while doing so. It doesn't matter whether or not it is technically a living being as it is just not compatible with the wants and desires of literally every other living thing the galaxy.
@@lolroflroflcakes the Mnggal Mnggal is like the creator and Eck said: it's a generally malevolent being but has a virus like drive to reproduce itself. Really like the Flood accept the Mnggal Mnggal never stated they want to conquer and absorb the very stars into their almost corporeal being. The Mnggal Mnggal is most likely a sentient life form from a different dimension that's been banished by its own kind as a torture to never being able to relate to anything ever again. Except the Mnggal Mnggal saw that after eons of just moaning and groaning about regrets it finally thought: *Wait !? I can own this bitch. Imma spread like flu season in the summer on these Solid Lifeforms* And since then whoever comes into contact with a Mnggal Mnggal is basically screwed because it believes it has the power and right to do whatever it pleases and in this case as an inter-dimensional being it awkwardly enjoys the occasional sentient rotting puppet act, collecting ancient lore, and dark humor 😥
@@lolroflroflcakes Yeah but it was created that way, wouldn't the Jedi be conflicted in destroying such a creature just for it doing what nature intended, well in this case, the force intended?
Would the Yuuzhan Vong survive the Mnggal Mnggal? Could the Mnggal Mnggal beat the flood? Could the Mnggal Mnggal, Yuuzhan Vong, the Flood, or God Emperor all separately on their own beat Abeloth?
Eckhart already did a video with the Mnggal Mnggal vs The Flood along with the Blackwing Virus, and if you have seen any of Eckharts other Flood Vs. Videos, you'll know who wins,
You know, that planet they come from is ringed with ancient and perhaps even precursor ships of unknown origin. And the ironic thing is, the only thing in the galaxy that I can think of which could purify that planet and the surrounding ring of treasure, would be the Defoliator. Which unfortunately for this case, was destroyed during the Clone Wars
While I like them, I have the same complaints with them that I have with most other assimilators in sci fi. They’re a Grey Goo scenario with no real weaknesses that is somehow contained. I mean they’re super smart, all knowing, able to use technology, and can consume entire planets reproducing themselves. Their one weakness is fire which I’m pretty sure is a common weakness for organics. I’d like to see something about how they’re extremely susceptible to the force or their hive mind literally can’t grow too big or else it loses track of itself and begins to attack its own body. Lovecraft used the idea that attempts to resist are in the end futile against the old ones once they awake from their slumber. This one seems like it should’ve already destroyed the galaxy. I like their concept but they feel like they’re made of unobtainium.
Since this being comes from the tabletop rpg, I will use that as my source. If you go mechanically, it is dangerous (in large numbers) but not insurmountable. It has some damage reduction (if your familiar with 3.5 d&d stats, it's DR 5. Until its shield is overcome, a droideka has equivalent to 20.) It has higher than normal health, but not loads like say a Rancor. It can infect organics, but that takes hours. If you ignore infection (such as if it fought droids), its damage is pathetic (best attack does 1d6+4, Stormtrooper blaster does 3d8. Though it has decent chance to hit). It has Force Sensitivity, but no actual powers. Meaning it could roll for minor feats like sensing and minor telekinesis, but can never attack with it or boost itself. Now in a large scale engagement (not what the game is meant for), it would be a big threat to infantry but not so much to powerful characters or armoured vehicles. It would probably be hopeless vs the droid army. In space battles it has the advantage of being a hive mind (perfect coordination with each other) but the huge drawback of having no skill points in any piloting or operate naval weapons (meaning it can try, but it rolls with no bonuses. Comparatively I think TIE pilots are at like +8, but that's a tougher rule to find.). Also by stats, its intelligence is just human average.
@@thewhispererindarkness9117 So while they're dangerous in large numbers, they're manageable if you outgun them, have droids, or just have the ability to orbital bombard them. In other words, the perfect thing for a horror campaign.
@@thewhispererindarkness9117 thanks for the in depth! I don't have access to the ancient texts anymore so I couldn't find the stats. Those stats seem reasonable, the lore in Star Wars can quickly get out of control til someone slaps the writers.
@@RaeSyngKane Yeah I really liked some of Legends, such as KotOR 1 & 2, but I think overall canon is better off without crap like Abeloth and The Ones.
Goroto Jr. Fuck thats a brilliant movie. . . I was so glad i came across the whole movie on youtube (plus TONS of other 80s/90s practical effects based horror)
Two things, first of I would loooove it if the mnggal-mnggal were fleshed out more and featured in some sort of star wars medium, book or game or something. Secondly, it sorta pains me that they do seem very similar to the flood, and the reason this pains me is that I like star wars much more than halo, so I kind of wish star wars were "first", you know?
Now i want to see what that damn thing does if it's controlled by chaos from 40k, because that probably would be one of the most terryfing things one could think of...
shadow_phoenix 54 The SW universe should hope that it never runs into the 40K universe in a dark alley. The grim dark of the far future be truly scary.
@@beastmendelegate1946 But would the warp even have an effect on the star wars galaxy? I mean Star Wars as a galaxy is better at it's worst then Warhammer is at it's best when it comes to daily life of civilians and people in general. The only reason the warp has such an effect in 40k is because everyone is pretty much slaves or worked to death or dying or just living absolute miserable lives, in other words, negative emotions, without those emotions well everything in the warp goes poof and vanishes. Life isn't like that in the Star Wars universe even at the worst of times in galactic history everyone was happy then the best of times in warhammer.
@@Legionzzzz1 Heres the thing, the Chaos gods embody positive emotions too. Khorne also represents martial pride, bravery, and honor. Slaanesh represents both innocent and not-so-innocent forms of pleasure ranging from art and music to BDSM. Tzeentch represents knowledge and change in general. Hope, Ambition, and Progress included. Nurgle represents the circle of life, perseverance, and survival. Suffice to say, Star Wars has a lot of that.
Lets not forget about the geonosian mind control/zombifications with parasitic worms as well, those were JUST as scary- All in all, deep things like that and more are TERRIFYING...
The Sun Crusher or the Galaxy Gun would likely be the best option outside of creating a localized Black Hole. A supernova would effectively sterilize the entire system and the chain nuclear reaction from the GG's projectile would convert all matter on the planet (including the planet) to energy.
Courier six The Death Star is clearly capable of detonating a planet at full power, but if it was just fired over a longer period of time at lower power, it could be used to boil the planet’s surface.
The concept of the Mnggal-Mnggal seems to be inspired by real life theories surrounding “strange matter” or “strange quarks” in quantum physics. Strange matter is predicted to convert anything that comes in contact with it into the same material.
Stormtrooper TK-72 I mean, as a young man, Palpatine was supposedly rather handsome. But his love affair with Ysanne Isard (who was like 40 years younger) was pretty disturbing.
Your guest editor, Zack, did a pretty good job. At 4:35 when there's a scene from Shawn of the Dead (a brilliant and funny film that succeeds in making a zombie film into a comedy), the people in there are actually still human and not yet zombie. That opening scene in the film is brilliant, as the "normal" people are already acting like zombies. Interesting video, not too heavy for late night RU-vid relaxation, given its about evil space zombies. In other words, good job Eck (and Zack for editing the video).
I think what makes the Mnggal-Mnggal so terrifying and disturbing is the fact they were separated behind the great hyperspace anomaly perhaps by the celestials themselves because they or it was such a threat to even them. What makes them/it even more intimidating is the fact no matter who you are in the star wars universe other than perhaps Abeloth nobody is safe from this creature if you come into contact with it, you become lunch almost immediately no matter how in touch in the force or how strong you are.
The Mnggal-mnggal and “the sickness” are so messed up and I love that stuff like that exist in the darkest corners of the galaxy. It’s sad neither have been explored in canon but I do get why they have not returned. Also, does anyone else feel like the two are eerily similar?
I definitely appreciate the link you drew with Death Troopers and logically Red Harvest by extension. Definitely gives those two stories and the Imperial Blackwing project a bit more of a foundation within broader legends lore as opposed to being anomalies.
the replicators would only reall be dangerous agasint a united star wars universe if they come in undedected and build up before attack in some unkown region cause thats billions and billions of ships with energy weapons bombarding them worst case scenario is the replicators find infinite empire tech absorbe it and then can now use the force and never need a power source but maybe if they did that they just give up because they could ascend threw the force which is what they wanted to do but couldnt because only organic things could ascend in the star gate universe unless you count ftl space but the replicators hated being there
That sounds like my former boss. I get the feeling even when everything in the store goes right, he just randomly calls in people to his office because he is lonely.
I'm not sure if something described as definitively evil would count as Lovecraftian as such, since the point is that such creatures ought to be unknowable and beyond the concepts of good and evil... But since such entities tend to end up seeming like evil from the POV of lesser races, I suppose the Mnggal-Mnggal do count. And agreed, eldritch horrors from beyond can definitely have a place even in the SW universe! ^-^ Makes for a nice change of pace when the petty squabbling of the galaxy's myriad factions is interrupted by a threat none of them can deal with or perchance even understand by themselves, requiring a temporary alliance between usually staunch enemies.
Came here to learn more about my second favourite thing, Star Wars. Was delighted to be treated to clips of my first favourite thing, Resident Evil. What a great time!
"I think the Mnggal Mnggal are the most disturbing thing in all of Star Wars." *He says while showing a close up of a woman in a leotard, boots and forearm gloves.*
"Uh excuse me, ever hear of Abelo-... Ok, refocus centerpoint station on their homeworld and get the suncrusher prepped and ready. Let's hope they aren't too many of them out in the universe already."
I was fixing to comment "You know, this sounds like a very Lovecraftian creature" then you start making the connections and I'm like "YES I'M GLAD SOMEONE ELSE SHARES LOVE FOR COSMIC HORROR"
Hello Eckhart, do you know how the continuation of Death Troopers is called? I heard that the Vector crashed on Kashyyyk but that wasn’t in the book. Thanks, I enjoy your videos
In Star Wars Galaxies you can go to Dathomir where nightsisters infected with the terrible virus have attacked the Imperial Garrison stationed there. If I remember what I read, I think there might have also been a zombie rancor too ? Still, the overall star wars zombie mix is awesome
I used this being to run a horror game for our group and I also took a lot of insperation from Lovecraft. Everyone was scared at the end of the story which I enjoyed. I even took the time to describe it consuming people and it convenced one of the party help it spread itself.
The Whisperer In Darkness Yeah, true. But they’re both an ooze based being and have very creepy and mysterious qualities to them. I’m still disappointed there wasn’t more about the skin of evil, it’s honestly one of my most favorite Star Trek episodes. I wish it showed up again somehow.
You're mis-pronouncing the name- it's actually the "Meow Meow" and they take the deceptive form of cute furry felines... waiting for the moment to strike. We. Are. Doomed. Pray. For. Death.
They'd probably fuse and cause the the Flood spread and kill everyone vibe to tone down to just infecting people for "Shits and Giggles." Why does the Mnggal Mnggal do what it does ? Because it can and it's that simple 😓
The Flood can infect Artificial Intelligence and technology in general through the Logic Plague and the Flood can learn everything the host knows like skills. Additionally, the Flood is microscopic and airborne. It's no wonder it was able to destroy many galaxies (The Flood are the corrupted Precursors which colonized multiple galaxies). It took the destruction of all sentient life to starve the Flood.
Reminds me of the terrifying Rakghoul plague, only more mysterious. One of the main appeals Legends is that most of it *isn't* targeted towards kids. I know you'll get to this in the finale of the Vong sub-series. Won't stop me from going through the motions though. Anyways: Can you breakdown what is by far the largest space battle in the entire franchise? *The* *Battle* *of* *Yuuzhan'tar!* I have made this request: one-hundred-twenty-nine times.
Welp, Alliance ships seem to have better shields and seem to have a slight edge when it comes with the versatility of their guns, a lot of them firing plasma, and the UNSC did suffer from the Covenant's heavy use of plasma But there's no way to tell how good the Alliance's shields would fair against UNSC MAC guns remember, Reapers don't fire lasers, they fire accelerated high-speed high-temerature high-density matter altough MACs are nowhere near as strong, the principle is the same. Alliance fighters are superior to anything in the UNSC arsenal, just as UNSC troops would stomp anything the Alliance might throw at them ... would be a pretty close matchup but consider this : Without access to the Mass Relays, The Alliance would get thoroughly FUCKED, because Slipspace is much better than Element Zero so, with prolonged conflict, over more and more battles, UNSC would figure out that if they use Hit&Run tactics they could slowly cripple the Alliance's fleet
@@mihailazar2487 I didn't think the alliance fired plasma, is that from andromeda? In the first 3 games pretty much all their ship weapons seemed to be mass driver tech. I agree that without the relays they're going to be handicapped. There is a pretty significant size discrepancy between the two factions. The Pillar of Autumn from the first game, for instance, was an outdated cruiser design. It was well over a kilometer long. The Dreadnought class ships of the alliance were barely that big. The alliance also only has 6 Dreadnoughts. I just dont think they could muster a large enough force to really compete with the resources of the unsc in a meaningful way in space. If it were a fleet battle between numerically similar forces they'd definitely be a lot closer though. But I think the Infinity by itself would would give a task force if alliance ships hell.
Yeah, this will now be a big part of my huge Edge of the Empire RPG Campaign. A 5 campaign series, I now plan on the party encountering it when fighting the First Order in Campaign 3, and then it will ally with Abaloth in the final campaign (yes, I am freely combining cannon with legends.)
