I think shane was triggered because he felt that she was lying to use him for attention or popularity. People today would make a big deal if they said there parents were this and that but really aren't
Well it depends where you grow up.. if you live in a prissy rich people area or even middle class, you're definitely going to encounter some snobby ass people who will think you're trash or will never talk to you unless you show them you you're hot shit like them. Meaning if you or you're parents have nice jobs and a nice house with a car ect. But then there's those decent human beings who don't give a shit about status or wealth and measure how good of a person you are by you're actions and how you treat others. So if you're going to judge someone, at least do it correctly.
I know right, this scene is particularly mature as it sends a message to the audience "People who don't accept you for who you really are and who is only judging on looks and fame aren't your friends, they don't even deserve that you care for what they think a single minute" I spent my whole teenage years to endure taunts and mockeries, about my haircut, my voice, skinny body, wisdom, for the recall, i have the same haircut than Joe Jonas has in this video, right now, when i was 17-19 years old, then cut it just so they stop to mock me but i was wrong, i wasn't happier cuz i gave up something that i liked to see on me, giving them right by doing so, so i took it back years later.

Honestly Shane just makes this whole situation all about him 😂 let me explain First of all the lie Mitchie told about her mom wasn’t to Shane it was to Tess. but Shane is all like “You lied to cause you wanted to be friends with a pop star!” but really the lie wasn’t even directed to him. Second of all Mitchie hated Shane at the beginning of movie 😂 so why would she lie to be his friend? Well there is my in-depth review that no one asked for. But I still love the movie with all my heart. ❤️

If I was there, I would have been Mitchie's friend a d stood up to Tess telling her that just because someone's parents aren't famous doesn't mean that they're bad friends. I have friends and I for one don't care about their status or anything or what their parents do for a living. As long as they are good friends, they will remain my friends!!

It’s cause everyone at that camp has parents that is high in entertainment industry and rich which is the only way for the kids to go to camp rock And she felt that she would be seen as a joke if she was known to be the Chef’s daughter and that’s the only way she’d be able to pay for camp
Christopher Galan she lied because literally everyone at the camp their parents were famous or worked for someone famous. she didn’t want to feel like a joke or people would think that she was broke because her mother was the camp chef and her father owned a hardware store.

This scene is wonderful they are so good actors and I love the way that Shane's face changes during the scene while Tess is revealing Mitchie's lie he seems so hurt but it proves he loves Mitchie :)
I can't believe it's taken me years to notice that Connie (Mitchie's mom) is standing behind Tess hearing the bitch expose her daughter and leaves not a minute later. She was so disappointed and knew what Mitchie had done.

Yeah that and the fact that as a child movie, every protagonist, at the exception of their parents and other random adults are virgins, she saw Shane as a trophy to own, her so called pride took a hit when she saw a beginner with disgusting clothes, according to her, was about to get her prey.

I get your point, however this scene isn't stupid, it's their reaction who is, but this is reality somehow, in real life, MOST people only judge and mock by looks, think they're better because they have a fashion haircut and that you have a emo one, because they have bigger cars, a job with a better pay, and use that to make you think you're inferior, i endured that all my life, and still does, you want to know the best ? But, it's really sad that their characters hate each other and Meaghan's character Tess makes Demi's character, Mitchie, reveal the real secret about her mom......well not Demi's mom but, the character. :'(

The real issue is people like Tess making Mitchie feel like she needed to be "someone" (and therefore lie about who she was) in order to be "relevant" at all for them, so yes lying is bad and all but in this context, I get why she did it? (yes I'm going too deep for what this movie really is)
Jaclyn Schilt I understand how you feel. However, we have to understand that we've all lied at least once in our lifetime too. Sometimes we have to understand why we lie....we lie for so many reasons....and though lying isn't acceptable, we still do it at least once. But I do understand how you feel either way. However, the truth is, mitchie was only allowed to go to Camp Rock as long as she helped her mom in the kitchen. Mitchie didn't want to expose her secret to anyone because she was worried she'd be rejected so she tried to hide that fact in fear of getting rejected.

We indeed all lied at least once in our lives, even myself, 6 or 7 times despite calling myself the most sincere being in the universe, tough lies never give anything good, it is to differenciate from people who are manipulators and use lies to bring down others like Tess does, we are all scared to show, make someone know about something at least once, because we fear to be rejected, that he's not strong enough to hear the truth, it's a shield, but we can't live always paralysed by fear, and as nice people, we must learn from our mistakes and never commit them again.
