Northland Tackle makes an amazing bottom bouncer that is second to none. It is called the 'slick stick'. It is made out of stainless steel which intensifies the bottom. You can easily tell if you're on rocks, sand, logs or transitions. It also has a bobber built into the top of it, so when you do get snagged, let some line out (loosen your line) and the bobber will wiggle your bouncer free. It's worth the extra cash as they are not cheap.
Great video guys. As a rookie, learning as much as I can helps out tremendously. Y'all should do more videos like this for guys like myself lol anyways keep it up. I'm addicted!
My favorite way to catch walleye is a triple swivel. a quarter to 3/8 ounce jig with a paddletail on a foot long mono leader on one end and a 2 foot mono leader with a walleye fly on the other. Cast out and jig.
I thoroughly enjoy the content of these videos. They are tested and explained well. All your presenters are enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Thanks for making well worth my time.
South Sask the number one game species is Walleye. I know a lot of anglers that cut their lines if they hook anything else. Pickerel rigs are the most popular set up with leeches
Hey thanks I am a lifelong trout fisherman but lately I've been into pike. I know how tasty a walleye is. So ive been trying to figure out walleye methods from videos. Many seem to complicate it. Thanks for the simplistic clear cut video . I got it .
On Lake Erie this is my go to set up. We are having the best walleye season in quite a few years. Everyone is getting their limits, most of the time in a couple hours.
Exactly what I do (minus the bottom bouncer, I just count out my line). 3/4oz egg weight with a worm harness trailing 24-36" back. Hammered Gold blades and virtually any bead, haha.
We had great success fishing below a dam from the shore casting a jig with a bobber about 2-3 feet from the jig which kept it off the bottom. Caught 12 in 2 hours. Kept 6 nice ones.
Great video, great walleye fishing in northern Quebec, Canada, James bay, Assinica reservoir, my personal fav spots and home land, world class fishing!
When I fished the Saginaw Bay in Michigan, I liked crawler harness and bottom bouncers, now I live on the west side of Michigan and fish smaller bodies of water. Jigging is my favorite way to fish now, the Berkley snap jig is awesome. But, when jigging isn't working I go back to crawler harnesses with or without bottom bouncers depending on where the fish are in or out of the weeds. This video was great, still picking up great ideas to try.
I troll with a white ballon cut into strips about 5 inches long put on a regular harness, some old fisherman thought me a long time ago.no need for worms the ballon bait last for many catches. Good fishing everyone
When I was a very little girl my dad would make me bait the hooks because he said my scent on the worm was what attracted the fish for him. I have believed him for more than fifty years. Nice to know it is a real REAL thing!! 🥳🥳
I’m a poser at walleye fishing just 3-4 years at it. But I had my fair share of catch using a double pickering rig hooked to a 3oz. bottom walker. Form top to bottom : leech, crawler and minnow. Very effective.
You guys are true pros, you have the Best videos that I have seen on walleye fishing!!! Please have a video on to tell the Best way to feel when your weight is on the bottom when chugging or bottom bouncing, Thanks for everything!!!
Northern ontario, lots of walleye. I use mepps spinners and chartreuse grubs active shore casting but the locals like a jig, silver minnow and bobbers.
Grew up in SDak, lots of walleye fishing! Rigs, jigs, plugs, through the ice, did it all. Favorite way for numbers was to wade for em in the evening. Small Whistler jig tipped with a minnow... awesome feeling the "tick" when an eye would take it. Like trolling/drifting with bouncers and leaders, too. Spinners, smile blades or even a single corkie with a crawler, leech or minnow depending on the situation (wind, current, water clarity, etc.). Have used the slow death hooks with some success as well. Only 3 lakes to target eyes here in Idaho and I have to drive a couple hours to do that! Try to get out every time I get back to SDak though! Great eating fish that are fun to catch.
I fish central Wisconsin and trolling Flicker Shads is usually the way to go but this year the crawler harness is killing them. I use in-line weights mostly. The bigger fish are sometimes suspended 8-10 ft down in 20+ fow. Jigging works too but I hate it.
You are really missing out on Northern pike, especially the bigger 4+ pounders. It can be one of the best fresh water fish, not including salmon. They have to be from a good clean lake, not some shallow, muddy river or lake though.
@@paddlefar9175 oh for sure, ill take a good big pike off the slave lake or one of the bigger cold water lakes, but slough sharks from small lakes that get warm aren't very tasty in the later part of summer. I am just partial to walleye lol
I live in Minnesota and a lot of us use a Snell or Lindy rig with a worm or leech for walleye. Pretty much the same but no spinner and usually only one bead. Troll around .7 to 1 mph.
Yes, generally a main or reel fishing line is different from your leader/snell line (shown as a spinner in this video). Although what that leader line type is somewhat depends on water clarity, fishing a river with current that affects water clarity or a stained water lake you can probably safely use monofilament as a leader for your spinner or lindy rig. I happen to live in MN and primarily fish on a deep basin, clear water, glacial lake, in those circumstances you will want to use fluorocarbon which is virtually invisible to fish, especially important when targeting finicky biters like walleye. Also, try to ensure that you have a heavier weight line for main line than your spinner rig/leader/snell, if the line breaks you want it to break the snell, not the main line that would involve the loss of your bottom bouncer. On lakes I like to use 15 lb braid with a 6-8lb fluorocarbon leader. Generally that leader is about 5 feet in length so the bottom hook fits in your hook keeper on my 6.5 or 7 foot rods.
Northern Ontario. I use a 1/2 or 5/8 oz jig tipped with a finescale dace in morning and evening. Late morning or early afternoon I like to cover wind driven shores with a Husky Jerk in gold.
Anyone got tips for the trent river deer tail jigs used to work great but since the zebra mussels and gobys i cant get them to bite but see others bringing in good ones still
I searched for best technique for catching Walleye and turns out my usual set up is exactly this technique, minus the 35 - 65 lb braided boat anchor/vehicle tow cable you suggested for line strength, Lol. Honestly 10lb braided line is more than enough for up to 24inch Walter's. That just my opinion tho. I might try a heavier test (no more than 20lb) now that it was suggested. At least if I get a snag i can just rip it out and wont snap my line... at least up to the bottom bouncer. Lol good video tho. Thanks
I grew up in North Dakota where the Bottom Bouncer" was created.the 1oz/10' is accurate. No need for a line counter. Watch your angle. I've enjoyed your videos.
Pulling bottom walkers most effective, but I love catching walleye by bladebaiting. I live on lake rosivelt, kettle falls wa. Fish darn near every day.
I dont troll since i aint got a boat. But i use a 1/8 oz white and orange eye jig head with a live minnow and cast from shore and usually bring in my limit
Excellent tips guys. I use to live out in the Northwest but moved back home to Minnesota. Many walleye spots here but love me some Lake of the Woods MN. Troll bottom bouncers and even 3 way swivels with up to 3 oz pencil weights,.. Love the video guys and keep at it. Visit MN and give any one of us a shout,. Good old MN nice welcomes ya.
Scent definetly matters. I was crabbing and decided to put some anise scent I had on the bait and caught a crap ton in the one trap. Then caught even more and put it on all of the traps.
Abitibi Témiscamingue ( north West of Québec), i personally love to goo near grass when its sunny in a 10 to 12 feet of water area with a thin fin ! Its easier to feel the fish and you can also fish some pretty big pike with that ! But i definitly need to learn this way too !
Here in Northeastern PA the walleye seem to like leeches or crawlers on a jig when bank fishing. No boat yet, maybe next yr or a Harley. But if you know the layout of the body of water with depth charts you can usually pinpoint any type of fish. Gotta do the homework. Thanks Addicted I'll be trying out the garlic scent tomorrow.
Rattle traps are amazing year round baits. If they don’t take it, swap to a smaller size. Or a nice loud Rip N Rap is better. I usually fish southern Wisconsin rivers
When you know where the fish are. Trolling can help you find them on a bigger lake, then you can get out your jigs and cast to them if their schooled up. At least where I'm at?
thanks Guys , I fish lake temagami in northern ontario, ( lucky me ) mostly I just fish off the back of my houseboat with a minnow and a weight , I catch lake trout and once in a while a walleye , Ive bought some of those bouncers and Im now going to troll off my little 14ft useing your worm harness rig, Ill let you know
I’ve fished walleye year-round on the river in the Mid-Columbia basin for over 30 years. I’ll drag a slow death if things get slow, but my go-to is trolling stick baits, 3-4” long bodies. Sometimes a weight is needed, but under 20’ they will dive freely to that depth. Trolling downstream in summer and upstream when the water cools down. Eat them all, they are a tasty invasive species that will never be fished out. The best breeders are NOT the big fat pigs-that’s a terrible myth that is not based on science. Just ask a biologist.
I haven't really fished for walleye since I was really young with my pops but I do remember my dad and uncles always used helgramites, not sure if that's spelled right but I think they are like the larva stage of a dragonfly and they look insidious lol. Almost like the predators face on a centipedes body. And they always fished lake Erie or pymatuning lake in PA.. I could be wrong but that's at least what I remember lol, hope it's helpful somehow.
I live in HUBBARD, OREGON JUST GOT HOME FROM NORTH DAKOTA VAN HOOK what a great fishery hookem JUST like video showed nice vid need to HOOK up with peel the reel.
pickerel rig with leeches and find a good drop off on a river, a good deep spot. i like spots where 2 streams meet, always great walleye fishing. but otherwise i've caught more fish on a black/yellow lenny 5 of diamonds than all my other hooks combined. its my go to.
@@mikepowell8958 i like a no. 0 or 1. but if you only want to catch the big ones, go with a 1 or 2. a no.2 is one once i believe. then i use a leader and 12lbs test.
In nY we love worm rigs for walleye but I cannot day I’ve ever actually trolled them.. using drifting with a sock if it’s a fast drift. Will definitely try a troll though... you said sometimes it’s a fast troll, what’s fast? Over 2mph?
Liked the video. Everybody always have a better way. First thing is get rid of that snap on the end of the bottom bouncer and put a cross lock on. Start with two ounce go to three if you need to. Just my opinion we fish North and South Dakota, Northern Iowa clear to Lake Erie. Slow death will out fish worm harness thumbs down. Try both see which one works best. Like a # 4 blade. Smiley blade was killer in Canada last year and in June. Slow death no blade 3 ft leader. Liked your info.
Fishing in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in mid September , just can't seem to get them to bite. I really liked your video, I have never used a leader over 3 ft long, nor have I used a weight over 1 ounce. Now I have to give these both a try. Thanks guys
Im from Michigan its my favorite fish to eat. If its a keeper in season its coming home. Thanks for the tips. I catch most of mine through the ice. Jig a glider.
