He's a non domesticated animal and a pretty young one, all animals require some level of sacrifice. You think this would drive you nuts? Please tell me you are not thinking on having kids... a baby otter is nothing compared to raising a hairless hominid for 18 years

This looks like someone keeping an otter as a pet. I thought it was an animal rescue, aren’t otters supposed to be in the wild ? Can an otter be happy as a pet?
They are illegal as pets in many countries exactly because they don't get their needs fulfilled the same way and the optimal way in captivity. They can't have simulated surroundings that match them, they will never find little round rocks to keep in their pouch or catch feeding fish in the water or sleep in the water or explore nature etc. Places like Japan has them legal as pets because they don't focus on whether the otter is happy as a pet, but whether its able to be kept in a household without wrecking that household to pieces and whether people are able to get their desires for a pet met in an otter. And the answer is yes. If the otters are taken from their moms before naturally weened off, they will often bond with their owners as substitutes and they will get used to adapt to living in a household. And they don't know they would be happier in the wild ...
