The box is not a significant portion of the price you pay? What kind of bullshit is that? 200$ of 899$ is +22% of the price, for something you didn't order.
It's the safest way to get the case to consumers to avoid RMA's due to damage in carboard boxes. It's a heavy case, unless they sent it in parts for users to build themselves.
When you take into consideration it's necessity it doesn't seem like that big of a deal when your already paying $700, it's nice to get your $700 case in one piece, due to how heavy it is if it fell it's way more likely to break then almost any other case, this saves you time and money cause you probably won't have to send it back and if you do you still have the case, if a front panel header is broken you probably won't know until you have begun the build and thrown away the cardboard box, but it would be nice to have the option of getting it in a much cheaper cardboard box that is just filled with crap tons of hard foam
Two hundred seventy nine dislikes ? Hey PEOPLE, thumbs up or down is for rating the video, NOT the item being reviewed. If, after watching the review, you decide this item isn't for you.. You could give it a thumbs up instead, for providing the details which led to your disapproval.
This case is ENORMOUS! The fact that it holds not only an EATX system but an mITX system as well is just mind-blowing along with the sheer number of drive locations and locations for up to 480mm radiators. Not only that, but the finish is glorious as well. It's a shame it costs so much.
@UUU U You know what pisses me off? The parents who create these kids without the ability to care for them. Irresponsible. And we have to give a damn because, please think of the fucking children.
tenshi7angel So we should only care about the kids ??? If no kids it’s totally fine then ?? Also I don’t totally disagree with portents mistakes ... But is it these people mistakes only ??? Take a look at the a mount of countries, companies and businesses men/women who go there and take over the lands and take advantages of people there ... Are we gonna blame them or cuz there are rich it’s fine ...??? Some people used to have a peaceful life but after war came in there life start to become miserable... It’s not like all kids created as a mistake some had a family a house ...etc But hay what do you know as far as you live peacefully you shouldn’t care and to kill any empathy and justify your felling blame the patents to make yourself feel better ... It’s not like anyone was waiting any good from you anyway
lol? Much lower quality will be found in both of those cases not even getting to the fact that the 750D is tiny in comparison. Both lack quite a bit of features also.
Glad Phanteks is still making these instead of abandoning all support after a couple of years. Goes to show they have better management skills than most others.
This is one of the best cases that I have ever laid my eyes on. I love the dual system design, the SSD/HDD capacity and the water cooling. Do to that its all in one chassis. Hats off to Phanteks for making such a great cases despite the price I think this will do quite and I would love to get my hands on one some day. Great job to all the people at HardwareCanucks for another epic video.
$899 for case full of compromises? Heck, no. If I were gonna spend that much on a case, it should have a feature that installs the PC parts itself. Lol. Great video as always tho. Maybe in the next vid, try to put some water cooling in it.
There's no denying this is one crazy case that 99% of PC builders shouldn't even lock at twice. But props to Phanteks for building something that really does try to justify its price and putting together something awesome for those baller enough to consider something like this.
Anyone who buys this case needs there hesd examined. I own 1000 dollar PC cases, this isn't what a real 1000 dollar PC case looks like. This thing doesn't hold a candle to a High End, Lian Li, In Win, or Case Labs, those cases command high prices because they are worth every penny. This thing is worth 299, maybe 399 tops. Phanteks is trying to be something they are not. All the compromises, all the crap quality, badly aligned panels, steel body, no customization. This isn't even in the same league as 1k cases. My test bench is nicer than this, and it was only 500 shipped from UK!
Don't forget the cable shroud drop-n-locks if you remove the aluminum covers. Unfortunately they didn't widen it an inch so you could do 3.5 and 2.5 (its SO CLOSE to allowing both ... grrr ... only thing I actively dislike about the case). I have an 8x SSD RAID mounted on there with the dual-SSD brackets they sell and it looks sick.
I've built countless systems and watched just as many HC case reviews, but despite my experience this case is just too much. It looks great and has so many features but my head nearly exploded with the onslaught of customization options. I feel like I'd be paralyzed by choice if I bought one of these and would never be satisfied with my build. This is the first HC review I actually stopped watching because I found myself overwhelmed and I couldn't keep up. Just over halfway through I said to myself, "OK this thing is ridiculous" and turned if off. I was actually re-watching parts of it to try and cement all the info into my exhaustively overloaded brain. Amazing vid as always though. Loved it and the Best Case of 2016 Awards. That video helped me decide what to pick up for my build refreshes (upgrading from an original Phantom for the main rig and to a Sentry for the HTPC), so thank you!
I realised that Dimitri went all out on the production on this video. Very professional put together , In fact , more professionally put together video vs the previous vids or old 2016 vids. Well done Indeed , My hats off to you!
Excellent review , you weren't kidding when you said it was heavy it's very heavy ! Took two of us to get it in the house !! Your review is bang on the button.
VOLC4NICxSP4RK well it depends are you on nvidia or amd if amd u will get couple for the space and number of fans on nvidia side close to none nvidia has much better temps than amd
Just bought and kitted out the phanteks enthoo evolve tempered glass with my first water cooling system. It's a truly beautiful case and system but I really think I'm in love with this Dutch engineering company ;) as I'm Sooo drawn towards THIS case even if it will have to be put in a closet when my wife is around!
I think a Case like this is designed for someone like Singularity Computers build. It needs full water, full custom cables and a lot of planning. At least $5K system inside. Price is fine then.
I love the term "Super Tower." The case I had for my K6 486DX2 was larger and heavier than this. Constructed from thick razor sharp steel. Had room for 6 5.25" drives in the front plus 2 3.5" drives AND a dedicated 3.5" floppy drive. That was just a full tower.
Amazing review Dmitri! great job. Also I guess I have to say you are the reason I got myself a Be Quiet Dark Base Pro 900! Got it in november, and Im loving it! I was so happy when you named it case of the year! (and Im using it in an inverted layout with custom watercooling, it looks gorgeous)!!!
No this looks way different. I see what DavidGX means. I'd like the same case aswell but smaller size. I like the tempered glass on hinges design, the way the case design looks like (for example the standoff from the ground is different than your usual pc case) and the way they hide the connection ports. The button on top looks sublime. The ports in the video however seem damaged, but according to the images on the original website of Phanteks and the way they advertise this case, they shouldn't look like that at all. This case is way too big and too heavy to fit on my desk but the design looks stunning. Can't wait until Phanteks will come with something of the sort for smaller case lovers.
To be fair, it's not meant to be a big seller. It's for a niche market in an already niche market: a water-cooled dual-system, potentially silent due to the sheer amount of radiator space.
No, I get that and acknowledged. I like Phanteks. I'm just worried with any R&D and other dev costs put into this case, I just hope they turn a coin with it. It is a HUGE case, and quite expensive too. So yeah.
R&D? what. they are building a box out of metal not a new aircraft which is more efficient then the previous generation. they paid some guy to make a cad model thats your so called R n D.
Of course a reputable company which main business revolves around computer cases, will pay one guy to come up with the very best case, the flagship even, the whole company can design and produce. Why didn't I think of that. thumbs.newschoolers.com/index.php?src=http%3A%2F%2Fassets.diylol.com%2Fhfs%2F106%2F711%2F0ce%2Fresized%2Fbocca-meme-generator-yeah-right-030038.jpg%3F1311280837.jpg&size=400x1000
It's missing one thing on the side panel. The side panels that swing open towards the back of the case need a bracket at the top and bottom that locks in place for working inside our pc.
It's a pre-production model as far as I can tell. Considering he talked about the top panel cover being a different colour and some other things that will change as they come out.
I wish they made a cost down version of this case similar to the enthoo pro two. I'd get that in a heartbeat, but an enthoo pro should serve me well enough, I just wish it was a bit bigger like this case.
I do like the large cases, and some of those features are very cool. The Idea of having one case for 2 systems is a new concept for me,I never considered that before.
All these peasants crying on how expensive the case is. Unlike other PC components a good case is a keeper. It will easily last a decade. Has amazing build quality and is probably the best case I've ever seen. Case Labs has the ugliest cases. I can't wait to build mine once Asus fixes their 300 series motherboard.
Agreed, as far as "you get what you pay for." But, having said that, this is waaaaay too expensive. IMHO, "most" cases should already have this level of quality at the $200 to $300 price point.
yeah I wouldn't say decent but yeah you can build 1080p rig for the price. I mean I've spent quite a bit on pc builds, there's just nothing there that really justifies the cost. yeah it's nice but just as he mentioned I could get a caselabs or other case for a fraction of the price.
UNbelievable Case!! Honestly, this case isn't for everyone, the price point is for those who can afford it, but it seems that those people will be getting one of the greatest cases ever made/designed!
Right out of the gate. The case !! Holy shizzel.. I was gonna send you one Dmitry,. But they beat me to it. LOL.. :D I so love this case. This is definitely a water coolers dream case I'm sure. I would need quite a bit of time to be able to completely fill this one as a standard air cooled system. As I am particular in the cable management department. There would be a massive amount of cable combs etc.. I'm thinking it would probably take me a good six months to complete this multi megalith . Love your video bud. Thank you..
oh wow, this case has a lot of features i want: 10 plus hdds possible and a few ssds, big size, big window, nice front io. seems all reasonable, i guess it will cost 300-400 euros i guess, might think about it then.. it even supports 2x psus which i like just in case. 900 dollars!!!!!! 9 FUCKING HUNDRED!! dollars. what's happening? i hate this overpriced, super premium shit, instead of reasonable pricing, they change the focus of the case to just super high end, that doesn't care about price and ad a big "premium" tax for them.
I love cases and this does look impressive, but at this cost I WOULD NOT EXPECT ANY CHALLENGES. Great review. PS I just can't see myself at the airport with this case LOL.
The Flight Case is included in the $899 price. Mentioning the market value of such cases is important to understand the "value added" of such packaging.
What about selling the flight case afterward ? Like Dmitri said, this kind of flight case costs more than $500 on the market, so this possibility exists.
@Dmitry I think perhaps you might have overlooked the possibility that the lower section, second system would probably be used for media server application, hence the multiple HDD caddies for mechanical drives and large storage... It wouldn't require a graphics card (on board server graphics would suffice) and the whole thing could be controlled with a KVM to avoid a second set of peripherals. Factor the one case doing two jobs with quality aluminium and steel components and the value looks better.
Ok, but I thought that thing was behind the glass door? So I'd have to open the thing each time? Not sure if I wanted that. Anyhow, I really appreciate your videos. They are really good. Thanks!
Hey Dmitry, install "Synergy" app on both systems (the ITX and the normal system) and you can then control the "keyboard and mouse" of the other system virtually.
Hey Dimitri did it cross your mind to turn the ssd caddy 180 degrees so you can install it next to the HDD cradle without a problem? the cables won't be a problem because you can mount the ssd either way
Hi Dmitry As someone who is in the throes of a new desktop build, I enjoy your reviews. You always seem to put up a balanced and honest assessment. This case is too much case for me, I'd be interested in a mid tower version, I have time, who knows, Phanteks might release one in the meantime. I have to say though that I'm disappointed by your connection with OCZ. I had a lot of respect for them until they wouldn't honour their warranty on a failed SSD...one year into a 5 yr warranty and they wouldn't supply a new replacement but rather a reconditioned SSD. Annoying at first, but I simply haven't bought anything from them since. A shame, because I thought OCZ made quality products. Nevertheless I look forward to seeing your future case reviews...keep up the good work!
This reminds me of their first case effort. It was expensive as well but not to this degree but attempted to move design further. Then came several revisions of that case which were arguably better cases coming in at very respectable prices in the Enthoo pro series. I expect tweaks of this design and seeing the same trickle down in new designs in their next cases.
Overkill for 99.999999% of even the most enthusiastic of PC user, but a cool case none-the-less. I'm sure many who need a good dual system option will be glad to have Phanteks in the mix now. Thanks for potentially enduring a back injury for this review! :D
Hey Dmitry, what is the model of that small filing cabinet the case is sitting on @ 3:20? I have need of one to set my tower on, but I haven't found one deep enough for my case. This one looks like it accommodates that monster just fine so it should fit my mid tower on it.
I have the Enthoo Primo in white and after looking over the Enthoo Elite, the mid radiator mount is useless, but with an optional 360 side mount and a very large front mount, I think it holds more useful radiators than the Primo. I have 2x 480's, 1x 240 radiators
Looks like a really great case which is to be expected from Phanteks. Hopefully they don't forget their budget options which is the first reason I love the company and transfer these features to their cheaper lineup.
Thank you for the video, that Phanteks tower was one of my favorite, but for that price, I would choose the Caselabs STH10 instead because it would gave me even more flexibility for my cooling purpose. P.S I also would not give $200.00 for some think I do not want.
I was thinking of getting this case. I am rethinking this tho. If they maybe added in 3.5" HDD trays to that sliding cable cover and MOAR RGB on the inside. Dmitry, cheers for the review.
I could see setting the second system as a dedicated home server. Setup a few wireless peripherals for it since it won't need the best for a utility purposes and the best stuff for the main system. Very nice. I recently built a system with the evolve tempered glass so won't need to upgrade for a while. Hopefully this product line continues so I can dive into the later generational iterations of it, maybe with more USB C, or as I suspect a dp or thunderbolt in front.
Great video Dimitri. Love the detailed info you provide in your videos. I think because it comes with that flight case for shipping, the $899 USD price tag seems fair. I have Primo case and PRO cases currently but this one will be my next Phanteks case. I will just have to deal with the challenge of nice cable routing from rear to front.
Hey man I was wondering how you light your videos! The look is fantastic! I know you have some beast cameras and a nice sigma lens but you must use some artificial lights yeah?
PSA: If you like the aesthetics of this chassis but don't want something this large or expensive: check out their Enthoo Luxe Tempered Glass. It has a very similar lighting system, tempered glass side panel which swivels open, and lots of features. It's also much cheaper at about $179.
I think the case is absolutely beautiful. If I was in the market for a dual system case, It'd be my top choice. I think using the main system (ATX) for a productivity / content creation system and then the second (Mini-ITX) as a bare-bones gaming only system would be a great way to condense your footprint. If I had the money, It'd be great to run a X99 system and then have a Z170 system just to run games.
So beautiful. It was all looking so good... and then @5'34" ! - What happened to that curve? Did you drop it? Is that what you did? 3mm from perfection.
Dimitri, can you please check if the vertical GPU mount is compatible with the Enthoo Evolv ATX (your old case)? I know that it has 7 PCI-e bracket slots, so there's a chance it might work. Please let me know if you manage to check it out! Thanks!
All in all, I think this is an amazing case. It's a monster for sure! I cannot help but agree with that there are some esthetics regarding the case that could be addressed that would improve the feel and look of the case, especially with this out-of-the-world price tag this case comes with, but i suppose asking for perfection is utopia and asking for too much. Case-labs cases are not perfection either, and neither is this Phanteks case. However, my dream system for this case... and I am going to be a little bit geeky here -- that's allowed, isn't it? :-P So with all this space... Main System: x99/x299 mobo, with dual 1080 GPU's, high-end processor, SSD based storage only. Dual 1TB M.2 (one OS and one personal storage) drives on mobo, two 2Tb SSD's at the back of the case in RAID 0, for video editing and gaming. A full GPU and CPU watercooling loop. A 240mm rad in lower chamber, 480mm at the top and front. Using phanteks PSU splitter for both systems. And the Mini ITX system would would be like a NAS system... unraid based, SSH/terminal access with 32Gb Ram, watercooled (same loop as the HEDT CPU, taking advantage of the the GPU inside of an i5 processor, using the lower chamber for a 240mm rad, and all six drive caddies for the mini ITX system that makes 5 drive RAID system.
