The Most Exhausting Video Ever - Rusty Exhausts With Remnants Of Peeling Paint

Not all exhausts have to be completely rusted out, and unlike cars or motorbikes, tanks often had exhausts which were painted over. Often right in the factory, but also in the field when the crew sprayed a camouflage over them. So... How to make rusty exhausts with remnants of peeling paint? 🤔🤔🤔

Have just received "The Secret Horsepower Race", a book on WWII aircraft engine development (which was an enormously state-of-the-art affair involving progresses and series of failed experiments left, right and center for literally every part of the equation, from fuel tank to superchargers to bearing to the exhausts - often finding several hundreds of hp in that last step) - and with that mindset I look at this tank exhaust: pipe going into a muffler at 90° angle. Realizing that in many cases planes and tanks shared the same base engine (i.e. Merlin - Meteor). Absolutely baffling how different the mindsets were.

"Not all exhausts have to be completely rusted out, especially if the tank you're modelling doesn't have too many hours of service under its belt" Yeah, the exhaust is almost untouched by corrosion, but scratches that age much slower are already covered in rust. Don't get me wrong, You're making a fantastic job but these exhausts seem out of place considering the tank is obviously not that brand new. To make them more interesting I thought maybe you could put some less damaged black paint OVER the rusted parts? Most of the times crews painted tanks when they had time, few days isn't that much of a stretch and it would definitely write some history to the model

same. i haven't built a model since middles chool. and back then i didn't own an airbrush and all i had for brushes were those shitty ones you get at the dollar store. needless to say my models looked like shit and it wasn't very motivating to continue. Randomly discovering this channel literally got me back into the hobby now that im at a point in my life where a decent set of paints and a good airbrush is more like pocket change than a bank breaker.
