@@cathalfolan8441 I guess you must not be much of a car guy if you think no older cars are worth talking about. This car is one of many from any manufacture that hit something special that people enjoy experiencing. There is Porsche, Ferarri, American cars, virtually every manufacture. So I guess by that logic all modern cars are trash.
@@akacurmurdar1 e36 and e90s had four doors. E30 doesn't count. It all depends on what your definition of an M3 is. I like my M3s to have four doors as I need a versatile tool and that my F80 fulfills amazingly. If you don't need a bigger car and want an M car for mostly track and canyon driving, then the M2 is the one to have
Definitely the best new BMW especially with a manual. As a 8 time BMW M owner including a 2016 M2 and a 2011 1 Series M, I agree this is the best M2 but still not as good a the 1M. The biggest difference is hydraulic steering vs electric. Drive them back to back and its a noticeable difference. Plus the 1M appreciates every year. I agree with your 1M example, my 1M has 19k miles on it and is worth $15k more than I paid for it, so I drive it for free and then some. The M2 CS will probably have zero depreciation for the first year or two like my 2016 M2 did, but then it will depreciate with the new 2 Series on the horizon and then another M2, M2 Comp, and a new M2 CS about 5 years from now. 4 years from now would be the time to buy a slightly used M2 CS. I would expect manuals to sell for about $60k-70k and DCT to fetch about $50-60k on the used market in 4 years. Look at the huge depreciation on the M3 & M4 CS. If I was buying now, for $85k I would take a 2016 Cayman GT4, Evora 400, or Porsche 997 Turbo, or for one car that does everything at this price point a used Porsche 991.2 manual (which I purchased) or AMG GTS. Still good to see BMW making a drivers car and offering a manual trans, just not worth $85k with so many other great choices out there and I am Mr. BMW
Great video that helped me pull the trigger on one today! Love the car! I had a 2017 M2 and was underwhelmed. This is a totally different car! It is expensive for an M2 but I'm hoping it will hold the value better than a competition. I do wish it had an armrest though :)
Come to North and West Yorkshire Britain most of the roads are like this. The five-mile road to my old house was like this and every other road around Sutton Bank, Easingwold, York. Scotland and the lake district are mostly roads like this also. 1000 of miles of them.
@@Chris-se3nc fantastic daily. superb build quality for the class. feels more solid than the F30 I had before, but definately more 5-series than 3-series of old. I got the adaptive suspension and it does a reasonable good job of masking the weight while attacking, but you certainly still feel it. Engine is a masterpiece but basically useless if you want to stay within the law. To be honest, I'm rather torn. It's an absolutely great car on its own merits, but there is very little 3-series DNA left.
I had an m4 three years ago and test drive an m2 a year ago. Tbh the m2 is spacial is really outshines the m3 and m2. It's worth every penny a very special car indeed.
I'm am so glad to have a well sorted e36 M3. This M2 is trying it's best to be the same size under modern safety limitations. I can't wait to snag one used in 15 years.
That's the best dash cam you can get for under $150, I had a Viofo a119s for $70 a couple years ago, you can really read the plates at night unlike most other cheap dash cams
@Peder Hansen I'm sorry but you are mistaken. The M2 CS is front engined, RWD w/ 4 seats, The Cayman GTS 4.0 is mid-engined, RWD w/ 2 seats. Two completely different animals.
I mean they arn’t really that comparable. If you want a true sports car with one of the best chassis and driving dynamics in the world then get the Porsche. If you want one of the most fun cars out there with 4 usable seats then get the M2.
The problem with this car is that it creeps into cayman territory with that price tag and that’s where it loses me.. who would chose this over a gts or gt4?
People who want back seats and don’t mind a front engine experience. A BMW person who wants exclusivity and might already have other toys so they aren’t cross shopping? You bring up a good point.
the thing is......it is an amazing car and with limited production BUT ill go for a used 991.2 gts or even a turbo for that money in witch those 2 would smoke the m2 cs and most importantly it is a Porsche.
Probably people who want a more unruly car over the hyper focused mid engine GT4. Same thing with the people that bought a 1M over a Cayman back in 2011. They are completely different in character imo.
Well, it's more expensive than M4 comp, where you get nicer interior, PSS tires, bigger wheels, HUD, keyless entry lol. Here, you give up an armrest for more $$$. The reason to get this over M4 is rarity or if you prefer how it drives, not the price.
@@hellario2 I guess a lot of people are hoping it retains value, but with a starting price of $85 - $90k... All recent BMWs feel numb, sterile/fake engine noise, NA engine > lag of a turbo engine, and aren't all that special. I'm sure it will go like stink.
I love it. Absolutely love it. I've been a huge fan of the M2 non-competition due to the engine and exhaust tone (M2 comp has always sounded "off" in my mind). But this M2 CS changes the game again. I feel like it sounds amazing when you're driving it, and much better than the M2 comp engine but I need to say it, still not as nice as M2 non-comp! Great review Matt!
I’m starting to think I’d rather have the DCT on some of these cars than a manual. Just the fact that these cars shift the way they do makes up for not having a 3rd pedal. I’ve never driven an m2 but I have an m240i and even that zf8 is awesome. I love the way it cracks on upshifts. I can’t imagine how awesome the DCT would be.
Adaptive dampers have been available for almost all 2 series models except for 218i, 220i, M2 and M2C. Heck, my 5 year old 228i has that option. - This is the first modern M that I’ve been excited about and would consider owning after a spec’d out entry level 2 series. Have fun driving that thing for the week!
I've got a regular manual M2 facelift, picked that up around 40k€ last year. The CS is like 100k€ out here, I don't recon it can worth an extra 60k€. Also for 100k€, i'll buy a 991.2 S or a cayman gt4 second hand. The price on these new cars are insane.
A very well deserved 1M, a seriously deep One Take library that has something for everyone. $83k is a lot, but hopefully collectible and retains value.
Sold my 2015 m235 this year to pay some bills. Got a great price so it was the right move but damn was that my favorite car. I didnt even need to drive fast for it to make me smile.
WHAAAT 87 grand?! I’d wait a few years and pick it up for a sizable discount lol....Everything aside another great review Matt. Merry Christmas to you and your fam!
I can vouch for the quality of the Viofo cams. I own two A119s, which I had mounted in my previous car and loved them. The only reason they're not mounted right now, is, that I got a car from my employer now.
Comfort access module (keyless entry) was located in the center console, along with rear ventilation. These were deleted eith the adaptation of the CS-specific center console. Having a CS car I will say that I do like the specific center console, I don't need nor do I miss the armrest one bit. I do, however, wish that BMW found a way to relocate the CA module. Either way, great car that I'll own for the rest of my life. It's that good.
Mine is on the boat headed to the states now. I own a M235i. I love how it drives. So I wanted the best variant of the 2 series. Is it worth the 23 over the Comp that is a hard sale. But this was an emotional purchase for me. I plan on keeping the car forever. So it is not a car that I am looking to get out of in a few years. I will baby it by keeping it in storage in the winter, because of the limit run for it. I do plan on getting a GT4 once it is paid for. I want to own the best of the entry level cars that the Germans make.
Dear Matt, please, with sugar on top, get a gimbal, that you can use while going around the car. Anno 2021 having bouncing walk around simply does not cut it, since the videos are so great and the reviews priceless.
You took issue with aspects of the M2 Comp when you drove on track, but I didn't hear the same "frustrations" in this review of the CS on the road. I have seen other reviews that loved the M2 Comp on the street but thought it was not ideally suited to track use. How much of the difference in your conclusions, about these two cars, if any, is attributable to street v. track performance?
The M4GTS was way before it’s time and with how much hate it got, I don’t understand how the CS variants are doing so well with double the production numbers. Yes the GTS was 132k but when you compare it to a fully specd m2cs at 110k for carbon parts that come standard if not an option on standard M models, or a m4cs for 117k with triple the production numbers. Glad I picked up my M4GTS at 74k w 3k miles 15 months ago, only 2 left for sale nation wide under 100k
Here in Europa this car is being produced as long as there is demand and it's not limited in numbers or time (currently it isn't the most successful BMW model in the world). You can find lots of 0-miles, cheap CSs as people mainly go for the Comp, which is more or less the same car, but much cheaper. For instance, I had a 2016 M2 (I was one of the very first owners here Switzerland) and I was considering to replace it with a CS... but in the end I went for a 2012 1M Coupe with just 3000 miles, and believe me, this wasn't the cheapest option.
Beautiful car, just wish it came without m3 noises. It really is sub par compared to a base m2 with a nice exhuast. Great review though, congrats on hitting 1 million, you guys deserve it
I guess the one thing this car has going for it in regards to its price tag compared to its peers in that price territory is the usefulness of it and practicality. It could be an all year car and a grocery getter where as the C8 not so much.
Limited production, and what Matt describes as phenomenal, but he chokes on the $85,000 price. These will sell for a premium to 2200 knowledgeable enthusiasts.
I have a 2019 M2 Comp and I am honestly happy that I didn't get the CS. I was on the fence, but I really like the interior appointments of the Competition over the CS. The arm rest with storage and wireless charging is something I use everyday. That CS on the passenger side dash just looks cheesy. It would honestly make me mad any time I looked at it. For the type of driving I do, I can't imagine I am really missing out on too much.
Cheesy? That's a weird way of thinking of the CS logo in the dash bit. I (along with 99.9% of other people) love it. I have a Rennline magnetic phone mount and charge my phone with USB cable. I've never actually wished for one second that I have a center console with wireless charger. Out of curiosity, what do you keep in your center console that you can't keep in the glove department or in the little hidden cubby under the headlight controls?
@@csboi I don't mean any disrespect, stuff like that just reminds me of cheesy interior that you might see in a 2000s Corvette or something. IMO it just doesn't look that great. I keep my phone (wireless charging) and wallet in the center console, among some other random things like a multi-tool, tire gauge, flashlight, etc.). I like not running a cable and keeping things much cleaner. I don't need my phone mounted because apple play and everything takes care of notifications and all that. I don't really need access to my phone much as I'm driving. I'm not using mine as a daily, so perhaps things would be different if I was. It's much easier to just pop the center console open and plop my stuff in there opposed to reaching over and putting things in the glove-box. I love my M2C.
Yeah the comfort access thing is weird. I have a comp (also 6-speed) and there was no option to have or not have it, just came standard. Maybe they save a tiny bit of weight on the hardware by not including it with the CS?
@@timmietz Yeah agreed. Its the same with the comp, I get bummed out every time i see those little triangles on the mirrors that would obviously light up in other cars as a blind spot warning.
