I just stayed at 'The Old Cataract' last December and it was one of the most gorgeous and beautiful hotel experiences I have ever had! I didn't want to leave!
Wow! Beautiful! Thank you for this tour. While I will always have a soft spot for the Sofitel Nile El Gezirah, this property has won a piece of my heart - will definitely make reservations for my next trip to Egypt!
The fact that Agatha Christie spend an entire YEAR in this hotel makes the intrigue especially intriguing. Been starting to read her work (beginning with ship-related settings, of course), and now that I've caught a glimpse of one of her inspirations, "Death On the Nile" is up there on my to-read list.
My great grandfather - Hanna Nassim - was the builder of the famous Moorish dining room. He was also the contractor who build the third and last stage of the Old Aswan Dam nearby.
Had double gin and tonics there some years ago (horrific bill when the time came), looking out over the river at sunset was like looking at a movie set, just amazing.
Wow, that terrace is amazing. Or rather, terraces! I'm not sure I'd be able to afford the Winston Churchill Suite to access that one! This is just a stunning hotel all-around.
Thanks Amy. That suite was very expensive. But that terrace and its view was one of the most beautiful I've ever seen anywhere in the world. I wish I'd have taken more pictures of it.
