Tower Bridge
Tower Bridge, an iconic symbol of London, was completed in 1894. It was designed by Sir Horace Jones and engineered by Sir John Wolfe Barry. This bascule (drawbridge) and suspension bridge was built to ease road traffic while maintaining river access to the busy Pool of London docks. The bridge, with its two majestic towers, is constructed from steel and clad in Cornish granite and Portland stone to blend with the nearby Tower of London. Tower Bridge has become a quintessential part of London's skyline and a significant tourist attraction.
London Bridge
London Bridge has a history that dates back nearly 2,000 years, making it one of the oldest river crossings in London. The first London Bridge was built by the Romans around 50 AD. Over the centuries, several versions of the bridge have been constructed, destroyed, and rebuilt. The medieval London Bridge, completed in 1209, famously had houses and shops on it. In the 19th century, this bridge was replaced by a granite bridge, which was dismantled in the 1960s and sold to an American entrepreneur who reassembled it in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. The current London Bridge, opened in 1973, is a more modern structure made from concrete and steel. It serves as a crucial artery for the city's transportation.
