Here in Australia everyone had a mulberry tree, years ago. Birds eat and drop the fruit so it was a bit messy sometimes. At an old homesite there was a huge one. The fruit was black and delicious.
I would put loquats in this category of foolproof fruit trees for your yard. And both so delicious! And I agree, if someone tells you not to plant a mulberry, just no, you don't need that type of negativity! :-D
Is it selfish to ask for a video a day? Love the humor and the education, just from your personal experience of course . Whoever down voted should stop watching youtube.
I had 3 mulberry (2 white, 1 red) trees at a home we owned in Wisconsin and they were great, wish they were all the red. My grandmother had a mulberry, fig and pepper tree at her home here in Phoenix (44th st & camelback) in the 60's thru early 80s.. We would climb and eat off the mulberry tree, She also had a pecan that she wouldn't let us near. It was like she had trip wires to let her know we were getting close to it. My other grandmother had a little plum tree orchard 48th st and McDowell, (from 1950s through early to mid 70s) We had to go pick them once a year for her and her polish friends to can and freeze. We had navel orange, pink grapefruit and a tangerine tree in our yard(44th st and Osborn) that was citrus central back in the day. Almost anything south of camelback had been citrus.
@shashakeeleh they really do great anywhere andvthey have many varieties My husband and I had 3 huge mulberry trees at a home I had in Wisconsin (Brookfield) to be exact. We had a white purple and I think there Is one that doesn't make berries. I can't remember Yes, it gets down to -35... -27, -18, on a regular basis there. Being a native desert dwelling Phoenician my whole life, except for summers from 1976 to 1983 when we had a summer business and a play ranch for my step father. It should have come down to my step brother and I but the step father( S.F. ) sold t he little 10 acres we love to get a 760 acre ranch East of bozeman Montana. Someone offered him almost 3 times what we paid so, then....we bought a different ranch, small by Montana standards at 620 acres. Now we have nothing. Hewas a horrible business man. My step brother and I miss the little 10 acres much. We had the money to buy it as well. 50k. Now we are old (im 56 he is 58) and reminisce. It is so dry in most of Montana it's hard to keep things growing some years. I will take az now. Never had a desire to shove frozen pool water.
I (had) a container mulberry.. and it came out of dormancy with healthy green leaves... until something happened and all the leaves died.. I scratched the bark and it is green as can be! But all the new leaves died.. I took it out of the container and looked at the roots.. no new white roots, there all brown and not healthy... or it could be there just old roots? .. could it be root rot? Idk.. I am sad my mulberry probably died .. ... it lasted a year grew 5 feet in one session. But now it’s in jeopardy 😔 The big Texas freeze (-2 degrees Fahrenheit here) might had something to do with it.. it may have damaged the roots back then and it can’t get nutrients and it’s Dying because of it? or it could possibly be root rot .. the soil was pretty wet so it’s a possibility but the roots didn’t fall apart and they went squishy so Idk what it could be... But maybe there’s still hope? What do you think?
I’ve got two Pakistan mulberry, they have been in ground for two years, approx eight to ten feet tall....no fruit yet. I have smaller black Asian mulberry, this year I got first heavy fruiting after waiting two years.
We had one in the middle of our neighborhood. It was Hugh had to be at least 30 feet due to the amount of space it took up very wide shade tree. We would climb the thick branches, sit, and eat.
Great info! I have never been able to find a mulberry where I live in the Southern California desert and everything online is always sold out. I need to make a trip to Phoenix!!!
search his other videos. varies based on your conditions (mainly: local heat and soil), time of year, size of plant, so on... generally, during dry spells, water every week when the tree is young (less than 3 years/10 feet tall). In my experience they're good to go after that. Don't fret when they drop their leaves, of course.
Yes, i totally agree with you, i have one among some dozen other species. Have you ever heard of Taiwan mulberry, it looks really like pakistan variety?
Hello don! Love your videos, been waiting for the next one. Lol. I speak for everyone, that waiting for your videos is like waiting for a new marvel movie. Priceless!! Thank you for your knowledge. I have two in my yard growing so fast and productive.
❤... Hello @shamusoleary2139 I recently watched a video (about the Shangri La Mulberry) created by a gentleman named Tim Brown from Las Vegas -- In the video he mentions that you occasionally come to Vegas to sell. Do you still do so?
I water with a hose by hand. How long should I leave it on the tree for? Also how many times in the week? I have a 4 yr old non fruiting kind and I don't think I've been watering it enough because it hasn't grown much
What would be the hardiest most prolific mulberry tree that you would recommend for our southwestern deserts? I'm in the Mojave desert 60 mi south of Vegas.
I do hope, one day you do "ship". There are many trees you sell I would love to have. I can't seem to find them elsewhere near me. I live in the high desert of San Bernardino county in CA. It is what it is. Perhaps one day I'll be able to drive out to your nursery. I'm in no hurry, as my goal is to grow a permaculture/food forest on my 1.25 acre. Working from the ground up and in sections. I do have 3 mulberries here. My husband thought I was crazy for jumping of joy when we bought the property and I found out we had these mulberries here already 😁.
Oh my gosh you have to get out there. It’s overwhelming and it’s all crazy good plants types. I mean he has fruit punch mangos! Think Cotton candy ones too. Great variety of Bananas everywhere etc. just have him guide you to his favorites fruits when you arrive and leave with a truckload. Lol. He also has compost and fresh worm castings from company next door.
@@braddistler5697 it very much sounds like 'Disneyland' to me! I'm sure I won't want to leave and I'll want to get at least one of everything...😄😄. Thank you very much for sharing!
We have 3 perfectly planted Volunteer Mulberry trees. I have one that gives the best fruit for my backyard birds. Its dark fruit. I have one tree that leafs out later and has smaller leaves and pinkish berries. Can you tell me what that might be?
I bought an everbearing from "shamus" and it is doing amazing !! he knows what he is talking about it . bought 5 other trees and they are all doing well too, here in tucson.
I have a. Black pakistan 3 years but no fruit a lot of frowers but no fruit I not have idea of male and female how can I tell them apart thanks O I live in las vegas nv
Thanks for the video. Please consider to add some info in the description, it also helps with the video recommendations of RU-vid, as well as the tags.
I've tried to grow Pakistani Mulberries here in San Antonio, TX on 3 different occasions. Each time I plant them in Feb/March, but then the freeze comes in January the following year and they end up dying and then the tree re-emerges from the root underneath the graft. Any thoughts on what I can do different? I even put them under ag fabric this time, but then the Texas Snowpocolypse hit.
Yes & it's good to have a mulberry tree because the mulberry fruit doesn't keep that well for transportation to the supermarket or fruit store which means they need to be picked & eaten straight away. So you're actually very lucky to have a mulberry tree if you have one !
I have no problem disassociateing my self from any of those people. Love the content Shamus ! I hope you ha e an external for me when I come get one in 2 weeks.
Like pretty much everything in life, if you're a good steward, it will reward you well, and if you're neglectful, well, dot dot dot. Mulberries are awesome. Good video. Thank you.
