I bought the Launch Pad irons in October of 2020 after coming back to golf after 10+ years away from the game. never properly started using them till March 2021 and 1 year later took 14 strokes off my handicap and believe these irons made huge difference to my game . absolutely love them .

Demo'd LP2 irons along with D9s, TM Stealths, and Cobra LTDx and was really impressed. The LP2s were more consistent in both ball flight and direction. I never thought of them as a fit for me, but I don't get to play as much as I used to and could use the help!

Using the Sim max os irons and love them. I hit a lot out of the toe so forgiveness is a must and these irons do provide a lot. My occasional center strike does go a bit farther but just makes me feel good when I do lol. I say use what helps you be a better golfer and stop worrying about trying to hit something that you really only hit well on occasion.

Thank you, I absolutely love Wilson, the brand is so underrated, but for the price and the playability is outstanding. As I'm not well off, I was still able to afford the D200 irons, they play so good.

I was a seven handicap senior golfer playing TM SIMs. Demo'd the Halo, including hitting chips and pitching. Very impressed, ordered a set, 5 - D (Gap Wedge) and a hybrid. Unbelievable performance. I will gladly take the jokes and doubts that I will keep them long. Consistent distances, easy to swing and so much better around the green.

Peter - as a 20+ handicapper I moved from "blades" to Wilson Fat Shaft about 10 years ago, following some advice from a friend who is a scratch golfer. They are definitely easier to hit but also added Cobra Baffler hybrids to help with the longer irons (3-5). Obviously technology has come on even further over the last 10 years and now in the market for some new irons as I'm bringing my handicap down as I play more regularly. Its really interesting to see these new irons and if I'm honest don't understand why more golfer don't got for the "forgiving" versions, apart from golf snobbery Keep up the great work and love the changes of outfits in you video !😉

I remember hitting my dad's Spalding Executive irons. They were very similar in design to the Fazer XR irons. The Executives, to this day, decades later, were my favorite irons to hit. Very forgiving, felt amazing. I could crank a 3 iron and I couldn't even feel it squish off the club face. Amazing irons in my humble opinion.

Spot-on Pete. I just got back from my Srixon fitting for irons and a driver. My ego was telling me I needed a blended set of ZX-7s and 5s. My head said to have no expectations and to go with feel and results. I put an order in for regular graphite-shafted ZX-4s (4-PW) and a stiff graphite-shafted ZX-5 driver. I have never hit such good shots in my life. The toed, heeled and thinned shots were still so much better than shots with my old clubs.

My very first set was a Wilson box set It came with a driver, 3 wood, 5 wood, and 4-sw. Very solid, I have a friend who still plays them (the irons at least. The driver and woods have long since broken). After that I had the taylormade tour burners and they were very forgiving. The most forgiving I've ever hit are easily the great big berthas from Callaway. Ugly as the day is long but you literally can't hit them poorly.

I bought the Sim2 MaxOS irons last year after playing with 20 year old Yonex irons. The difference in distance was STUNNING. 2-3 full clubs difference. Where I really noticed though was how many more fairways I hit. Or, on shots that I would've sliced into the woods, they'd settle in the rough or deep rough (but playable). As a high handicapper lefty, I find most courses I play aren't set up to favour my type of swing. I only got 20 rounds or so in last year, but my scores in 2021 were in the 92 range, and in 2020 with the old irons they were 96/97. Playable lies, closer to the green... made a big difference. Love these irons.

Hi Pete, I’m a 68 year old golfer and picked up a set of Cleveland 588MT irons with steel shafts which have given me more confidence in my swing and hence reduced the temptation to try and hit them harder. I keep going out to buy a new set of irons but like you, have the 588s. Yes, newer irons go longer but the 588s go up in predictable increments and give me full shots from closer in. Similarly, was going to buy a Sim Max 2 driver but at the time, were out of stock with a few months waiting list. Being adjustable, I took the Cleveland down to the range and adjusted it - saved a few hundred quid.

I am a beginner (10 months since first round - @ 1 year since first swing). I had the opportunity to spend an hour testing any and all the brands in an Atlanta golf shop and walked out with a receipt for a set of Halos. I got the full, fitted set just 3 weeks later! I still swing other guys’ clubs whenever I can, but I haven’t swung any club that gives me better results than the Halos. If the club face is pointed in the right direction, I get a good shot. I don’t use a driver, and my longest iron shot is about 160 yards. But I can still break 100 because the Halos compensate for my toe or heel shots.

I landed on P790s - not necessarily in the "forgiveness" category... but they're just the easy button. Used to have to swing out of my shoes to get a 4 iron to go 190, and would generally slice it. I play the Ping G710s…..I’m amazed at the forgiveness……7 iron from 150yds hit way out on the toe, and still hit the green……I’m 68 yo….so I’m not as long as I used to be…..but these are fun to hit!🇨🇦

Currently using Ping G5 white dot (quite upright for my lanky frame). Generally very forgiving, and haven't had a flier from them 🙌

Loving my Callaway Steelhead Sr’s with the Project X LZ 6.0 120g shafts. So forgiving and effortless distance.

When I played lots of golf and before the long layup of my game due to job moves and area moves, then of course the arthritis, which further has delayed my return to golf my irons were a set of Ping S57 irons. I still love those irons, but hardly the most forgiving… plenty of feedback…. And on my return to the game perhaps need to be at least temporarily retired in favour of some more forgiving irons. So, any of the three sets mentioned would be great. Albeit necessarily in the graphite shafts and very cushioned grips to further protect; hands, wrists and elbows even more. What I personally would be looking for are irons preferably sub £200 second hand for irons a couple or a few years old or more that are as forgiving as the ones looked at here, but where the technology is no less advanced.

I've been using a set of old Ping Eye 2's for the last couple years. I just got fitted for a set of JPX 921 Hot Metals. I loved hitting them during the fitting. Can't wait for them to come in. Surly they will shave a couple strokes off my game lol

I bought a set 8 years ago from Adams called A3OS (OS stands for oversized). they are not quite as thick as the launchpads but they are definitely very hybrid. 3-5 ARE hybrids and I love them. Not quite a blade player yet but I can see that, as I'm getting better lately, I may want to look at the stealths or something more like that for my next set. Thoughts?

My set of 2006 Big Bertha irons do have a similar profile as those Wilson's; they look massive behind the ball. As a very high handicapper, I like that. Helps the confidence. And they are very forgiving.

I'm at the "bogey golf on a good day" level (trying to get down to a solid mid-low teens handicap and I'll be happy ) and I stumbled across a well-priced (AUD 300) set of second hand Cleveland 588 MT irons last year (all are the MT variant of the 588 series: 4 to PW). They may have come out 10 years ago, but seem to have been a bit ahead of their time: muscle-backed (to cover up the cavity) but titanium, to keep the weight down and with a forged face. Lower handicappers would probably hate them, with the chunky top line, the visible "@rse" on the 4/5/6 irons, and there is a loss of feel around the greens - but that's something I've learned to manage. The straightest face I use for short bump and runs is the 9 iron, and I've got used to the "chunkiness" of using it. But, combining the short irons in the set with a couple of proper "grown up" bladed wedges (a 52 degree Callaway and 58 degree Cleveland) seems to work well. I'm not a big hitter, so that gapping of 45 degree PW, 52 GW and 58 S/LW is something I can work with and "feel" my way around. I love these irons for full shots, though. Their chunkiness behind the ball (without being ridiculous) gives me a lot of confidence, and I love the solid "thunk" when I hit the ball well. And off-centre strikes (which I have a lot of :-) ) aren't punished too much at all. I have a high spinny ball flight anyway, so I get the stop I need on the greens (on the rare occassions I hit greens from distance! :-) ) . These Cleveland 588 MTs have definitely helped me improve. Onwards and upwards!

Great video. I’m getting fitted soon and considering some game improvement irons as I shoot in the mid to high 90s. Would love to see what you think of the pxg 0211Zs. Doesn’t seem to be a lot out there on them.

ZX5/7 are the best I've seen for feel/looks/forgiveness/distance for middle handicaps. I'm a 5 hdcp and play hybrids in 4 & 5 bc theyre simply way easier to hit. Also carry a 7 wood. Nothing wrong with making it easier.

Last fall I found an old set of callaway big berths 06 irons when I was cleaning out the garage (forgot I took them in on trade years ago)...injured shoulder so I've been messing around with them in my yard hitting balls into my field and man they're easy to hit. My srixon z785's will be on the shelf at least until the shoulder heals! The kbs c taper shafts in my srixons aren't good when u can't go at it like you normally would.

I tried out the stealth irons and didn't see a crazy difference from the burner 2.0 irons I have. It's good to see TaylorMade making more forgiving irons again though as the burner sets are hard to come by

I switched from Tommy Armour atomic max irons to 2020 cobra forged tec. I could hit the ball further with the tommy armours, and they are very forgiving, but as I've increased my swing speed they start to feel more like bricks that are slowing me down. The forged tec are barely less forgiving however, and also give me more confidence shaping shots and chipping around the green. I can't recommend the tommy armour clubs enough though for an over the top chopper that wants forgiveness instead of lessons and practice!

hi Pete, loving the content as usual. i have always wanted to take up the game but alas i am as usually skint and sadly can't afford a set of clubs . I have came up with a cracking idea for a series for your you-tube channel. taking a complete novice golfer giving me, oops i mean him a set of nice forgiving golf clubs and seeing how far I ,oops i've done it again i meant they can improve over so many golf lessons from a pro like yourself. surely that would improve the subscribers to the already top notch golf channel.
