No more horsepower wars! Let's be real, a 500 horsepower mustang would be cool but I'd rather have ~400 with lighter weight and better transmissions. Mazda's philosophy here is the future, manufacturers will stop focusing on power and focus more on the actual CAR. Drove one of these recently, it's like a better first generation boxster. Absolutely flogged it and got 27 mpg average. I know what'd I'm getting for a toy now...
I understand why you would like the nd's style if you like aggressive styles. IMO the nb has style more true to its roadster roots... lighthearted and inoffensive
My wife just got one, and that's a perfect way to describe... you'll have the same big smile as the car when you drive it. It's so fun and easy to enjoy it!
During the past NH winter I drove my ND with top down in 25 degree F days and was perfectly comfortable, didn't even put my gloves on. I've got 11,000 miles on it now, I get in it and just drive for the pure pleasure, it's perfect for twisty New Hampshire backroads.
Last winter I ran the summer tires, there wasn't much snow and here in central NH they clear the roads immediately. If you can get to the road you are good to go. I will be getting Blizzaks, will add a 60 pound bag of sand in the trunk if needed. It was 32 degrees here this morning, winter is coming.
this is a glitch right. my phone shows 200k subs. its mean to be 200mil. i really hope this is a glitch. mad vids reviews. my fav channel on utube. hate this glitch thoe. dumb app showing 200k subs.
I'm so happy they left the electric motors out of the convertible top. There are so few cars on the road that require them, I'm surprised manufactures even bother to add them.
I really want to upgrade to this on the next few years (after college most likely.) Owning a 2004 Mazda 6 (5 speed) this cars seems so awesome! Super light, zippt, and can go topless!! Really really good car imo, I like Mazdas a lot
i follow a few car nuts on youtube. You guys are the only ones that do proper reviews as opposed to the "product demos" that are so annoyingly common. The love hate stuff is whats interesting to me as a buyer, not the bloody alcantara in the interior or the noise.
Great review guys. I own an NC Club version as a 2nd Car. I tuned it to get a little more juice out it, and it's even more fun. The best 6 sp manual transmission with crisp, short throws. You really feel like you're part of the car .....'jinba ittai'!!
Honestly such a cool car. It's like it was made for driving pleasure, I want to drive a new Miata so bad. They also look amazing! And that gas mileage sounds awesome
I can't wait to see the day when someone finally renesis swaps an ND. The swap for the NC is literally complete OEM bolt on as the RX-8 subframes (front and rear) line directly up with the subframe studs in the NC, so the physical aspect is very easy (the electronic side is a bit of a hassle, but worth it). On the ND i'm not sure, but the fact it weighs less than an NC, a renesis swap would benefit the ND a bit more. Either way it's an amazing car as is and a perfect choice for anyone that enjoys driving at all.
Great review, especially about the top noise and mirrors. It sounds like it's not easy to add sound deadening inside the top either. No zipper. Tinting the mirrors was a good suggestion. Comments on the Miata forum say blocking the sound resonator port they added to the air duct before the intake manifold will decrease the noise. I bet if you added a aftermarket muffler with Helmholtz(so?) resonator, you'll get the sound you desire without the noise objection.
No doubt in my mind that for the money, its easily the most exciting car in the world to drive. Obviously there are more intense vehicles around, but you pay for the privelege
Glad to see this. The channel has emphasized a lot of heavy luxury cars. Those have their merits but tend to lose some handling and feel. Now on to the S2000, BRZ...
The Morgan three wheeler is undoubtedly more fun but the £30000 base price tag tends to wipe the smile off your face.I have driven the Morgan and both the 1.5 &2.0 MX5, for UK lane driving the 1.5 is better than the 2.0 as it has 50/50 balance the 2.0 is 53/47 and it shows so I bought the UK Icon model £21000 (leather heated seats, climate con sensors, paint job ect).I'm 6'1 and fit fine my brother is 6'4 and also owns one so the room complaint IMHO is more dependant on how wide you are.
You guys do great reviews. One suggestion... do some night driving with these. I often have a different perspective with headlight performance, night time mirror blindness, etc. I notice you mention this for this particular car, but headlight performance can really make or break a car for me. I have a 2014 Jag XF which I love, but the headlights are horrible.
Loved the review, but may you please review the Infiniti Q70 2016, full option, not the Q70L, just the Q70, and the Cadillac CT6, please? I like these longer reviews, by the way.
Hey parker , if you don't know (as you didn't mentioned in the video) mx5 won 'world car of the year2016' and 'world car design of the year 2016' awards. 😉😀
Love the video--and planning to get this in the next few weeks. And first time driving manual--but want to learn in this car. Sink or swim for me on this.
Yeah the cheaper yet more pratical car type brz is what ive been wanting to get i like miatas escpecially the new ones but the brz stole it for me may not have as good of handling but cheaper and looks better lol
@12:18: "for $33,000".... this car cost $33k? Damn that's a lot for a Miata. This must be the top of the line model with all the options (except for the automatic).
I don't see why they'd even mention the 4C in a video with the Miata... Don't get me wrong, I love Miata's, but there's no competition when you put one against the Alfa Romeo 4C
You do not have to close the level just after opening the top. Ij you don't, then you do not have to open the level before closing the top. You loose 2 seconds there.
+krauser979 hopefully Honda will get it right with this one... As long as they don't make it over complicated and stay true to the original, it should be pretty good
+Po Russki more you gain speed, harder it is to increase that speed. E=m.c^2. Energy required drastically increases when you are trying to add speed after some point. Also, drag.
I have a question regarding LSD's. I own this car and don't know if I should take full advantage of the LSD by turning traction control off. How does traction control change how an LSD works? Thanks!
+Turbo4Life1217 In a word, it doesn't. Traction control just cuts power to the wheels to prevent wheel slip. An LSD will make sure the wheels are turning at the same rate when the difference in distance they have to travel is too great. So when you go into a drift and the outside wheel has to move a lot further than the inner wheel, the LSD sends power to both wheels and the inner one loses traction. Hope this helps!
The Mx5 has a fully mechanical LSD, meaning it is not connected to the TC. (Good thing) If you have TC turned on, you won't be using your LSD to its full potential simply because the traction control will cut the power and apply the brake before the LSD can really make a difference. However, the TC in the Miatas equipped with LSD is fine tuned to be less intrusive. But if you really want to experience the "magic" of your LSD, you should switch off the TC and let it rip.
