It was a point of discussion among our school because we knew kids like that. Had all the money in the world, would often push the crazy too far and end up in the watch house overnight. Next day back to being a crazy person. Wrap sheet as long as your arm yet they always seemed to land on their feet. There was a very famous case here in Australia where a teen got off when he was speeding in a very modified rx7 Mazda..... He was traveling at very high speed and the road was a dead end. He launched the car into the air off the berm at the end.. killed 3 people and almost himself. He got off with a slap on the wrist because his defence proved the road sign that indicated it was a dead end was knocked over and he didn't know it was a dead end. We couldn't believe it and we knew the kid, he was a nut case behind the wheel and we all knew it. He went to a school that was a very expensive private school in the city. Money for sure has an impact on the justice system which is a real shame. The fact a jury believed that afluenza bullshit is mental to me. My issue with the whole “affluenza” thing is that saying the kid never faced consequences for his poor behavior previously means he shouldn’t be held to the same standards as those that had? I don’t care if he’s 16 or 45, if he’s never faced a consequence due to privilege and then kills four people by being a reckless, inconsiderate idiot, then it’s time he face a consequence. The whole theory is that his lack of discipline and authority figure lead to him killing these people, so their response is to not discipline him or highlight authority in society with a justice system who will hold you accountable? So how about next time the guy drives drunk and hits four people, “he didn’t face a consequence for the first time he killed innocents drinking and driving, therefore he shouldn’t now” What a system. Eat the rich.

Well one day he died from OD on all the drugs and litterally none of us kids were suprized. I had heard that the reason a judge would let this fly was actually to try to get a much much harsher sentence later on. If he hadn't, the kid would have gotten a light sentence anyway due to him being a juvenile. However the judge KNOWS the kid will absolutely violate that 10 year probation when he's an adult and itl be at the time the full hammer of justice would drop. Its a legal tactic by the judge to try to get this guy more time when his hands are tied by the fact he's a juvenile.
