❤ every once in awhile, you show a house that makes my heart hurt for the past. I'm 50 now. My age range really had an amazing upbringing. Running around while the parents had dinner parties and gatherings. We were out till the street lights came on. Drank out of water hoses. In the yard playing. Our minds were imprinted with life experiences. Sort of sad for my grandkids. Their noses always stuck on TV or their iPads. Anyhay, thank you for bringing back wonderful memories of family.
I have to be satisfied we could try the “three mile to six mile connecting bike and forest preserve running track with park playground on park service police supervision to insurance age.
I lived in a 1960s A-Frame. My (now, late) maternal grandparents lived in a ranch-stlye house(2 levels), next to a people's cemetary: no problems with that!
The brick fire place and spiral stair combo was EVERYTHING and the light fixtures are the cherry on top… I never knew I wanted a Tudor style basement until now… Love this place 👍
I love this house. The front room was the formal living room and where the China cabinet was is the formal dinning room. On the other side of that beautiful fireplaces is a din. I can't believe they left thier console stereo down in the basement. I don't care what people think....I love love love this house!! Thank you for sharing this video. This is probably one of my favorites. ❤️❤️❤️🥰🥰🥰👍
This house represents a brief period in the 70's when the Spanish/ Mediterranean style Hacienda was in Vogue, the faux lantern style hall light, the wrought iron look light fixtures, what a period color palate. a recessed sunshine ceiling in the galley kitchen was the topper. Awesome find, Ethan
@@gretchenk.2516Yes we had that style in entire neighbourhoods. Not so much Spanish but Tudor. This was quite the house with all the style in its time. But i have been many homes like it in my life.
This is a wild house 🏠 i never seen a house lay out like this before . It's like a fun house., definitely sitting on prime land . i love all the built in.selves Thank you so much Ethan for taking all us on this adventure with you i What are you doing in my place 😂😂. all appreciated the hard work you put in the videos 📷
That was awesome ! I can't believe how pristine the whole house is. There is no vandalism or graffiti. I love the textured wallpaper. The stereo was a nice surprise. But the spiral staircase as the centerpiece was so creative ! It is a shame to demolish such a great house. Thanks for sharing !
I agree that it has a lot of very fine quirky features, but would need a lot of modernisation, whilst retaining a lot of those quirky features !! Love the brick fireplace/staircase combo, and the wooden floors on the ground floor !!
Beautiful house and the brick fireplace/staircase was really gorgeous! I’d be willing to bet that the dark green floral wallpaper/burgundy carpet was not original. Late 70s you still would have been into the earth tones and the flocked/mirrored wallpapers. These colors to me are more of the 80s Victorian revival phase. I am something of a wallpaper nut! So I would just say they probably upgraded the house with the colors that were more in style later on. The wall border and the combination of florals kind of dictates that. Florals were really not much in style in the late 70s it was more geometrics or bold abstract floral. As always love your videos!! Cindy 🙋♀️🌈🌈
I love that unique house! I would buy it tomorrow and not change much besides wallpaper and carpet and window coverings. For some reason I HATE vertical blinds. That staircase and fireplace combo is one of a kind. Took some knowledge and craftsmanship and time to construct and that’s somewhat nonexistent in todays world where everything appears to merely be thrown together. I love this style of house where you don’t exactly know what to expect when you walk in the door. Would have been a fun place to grow up. The setting peaceful. Would have been great relaxing on summer evenings on the balcony. I certainly hope that someone can salvage that amazing stereo in the basement. And that nice china cupboard in dining room. Thank you for sharing this fun cool explore Ethan. Please take care be well and stay safe!
Wow, the untouched original condition of this one is incredible!! It definitely has the all the elements of a 70's quality custom home! There were so many sub categories of decorating styles in that era. I'm not sure, but I'd probably call this one, Country Manor style. 🤔 Overall the color choices and look, would be a little too dark for my taste, but are of great quality and style none the less. The large property looks awesome as well! Cool find 😎✌️
That house brings back a lot of memories from when I was in a kid typical 70 's style home thoes wood dors they don't make them like that anymore, that record player in the wood cabnit we use to call it a cradenza some had tv and radios thanks for the walk down memory lane house tour video
I used to sell that exact wallpaper! It’s from the late 80s early 90s ! The company that most of them are from is called Brewster wall covering! Bringing back great memories of my favorite jobs! In store interior design! We sold everything from like a Home Depot but smaller! Diamond vocal paint company
Very odd for a custom built home. That staircase would have been a nightmare to get furniture up and around it onto the second floor with it being so narrow. Definitely could have been bigger as they had a lot of square footage to play with. Plus not as many windows as I thought there should be to let in the light ... especially in the kitchen. As long as they enjoyed it it's all good. Great tour ✌
Hi Ethan. Thanks for sharing this unique house with us! Your thourogh filming and smooth pacing have called me down after a stressful week. You’re just what I needed. 💙✌️
This house is so so darling. It has so many cute and unique features,, you never see in all the big pre fab , homes being built now days , cookie cutter houses with no soul. I'd totally buy it wouldn't change too much either. ❤️ love it
Hey Ethan, this house is absolutely amazing!!! I really love all of the brick & the wallpaper & the light fixtures!!! Thanks for sharing another exciting adventure!!! 👍👍🏣
Hi Ethan, awesome house with so many neat features. Could you imagine moving furniture upstairs with that staircase? Yikes, no fun but awesome to look at lol Thanks for sharing another great episode!
This home was AMAZING. I just loved everything about this house. That master bedroom and bathroom was beautiful. I would love to have a house like this one. Thank you for another amazing adventure. Stay safe and I can’t wait for the next adventure 💙🏠💙🏠💙🏠💙🏠
Oh oh oh. Thanks for bringing us another amazing retro gem. I can just see handlebar moustaches and sideburns and velvet trousers and long hair and maxi-dresses there. I can tell small children were there once - that’s why there’s that barrel bolt up the top of the front door - kids can’t get out or answer the door without parent to unlatch. I wish we could have seen the outside too though, I really wanted to see that tree pool… I wonder what the original cars in the new garage looked like.
I don't care for the stairs down being so close to the stairs up. *TRIP! ROLL!* Otherwise very nice. I remember a lot of these features in houses as I was 12 in 1977.
Hi Ethan. Great find in its original state. Too bad about all the cool features and that stereo going to trash. I saw a quick glimpse of the outside and the downstairs paneling imitate English Tudor style, also with all the floral wallpaper. Almost imitates a castle with those curves and light fixtures. Very cool. I don’t believe a mansion, just an affluent middle class home in the country. The front room is the formal living room attached to the formal dining room which leads to the breakfast nook in the kitchen. I love the view of the staircase from the kitchen doorway. That is a lovely architectural view. I wonder if it was intentional. The room with the fireplace is the family room where the family hangs out the most. Too bad the new owners cannot keep this place, as it gets developed. The original owners really loved this place. You captured that well. Very bad to see moths trapped inside. Be safe. Glad you didn’t walk on the deck.
Wow that was a lot for a house in the 70’s ( late) that console stereo was way older than the 70’s. By the late 70’s portable was the big thing and components. That was an incredible find.
What a fabulous house, Ethan! The console stereo brought back fond memories of my Mom and I playing Elvis and Roy Orbison albums. The stairs and fire place were so cool. The part on the right looked like a pizza oven.
I would repair and paint as needed and not change much and live in it reminds me of when I was a kid and my parents house I was 14 in 1977 and riding my dirt bike in the woods up behind the property. Great video Ethan brings back lots of memories
Out of all the houses you have toured this is the best one ever! I was born in the 1956 and grew up in the 60's and 70's so I have lived in homes like this one! My Dad was in the USAF, so, we moved a few times and always to a home like this one you showed! Thank you for showing this gem! 🧓
You can tell she was quite a looker in her day. Such a shame that more people don’t appreciate the vintage. I hope someone sees the value in that stereo.
What an awesome house Ethan. The fireplace and staircase are so neat. First time I have ever seen that before. Really nice wallpaper too. Wow!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
There is no justification for tearing down that house; it seems structurally sound. I would guestimate that it cost between $125K and $150K to build it in the late 70s. My home [1196 sq ft, a three bedroom ranch cost 35K to build with a lot of similar materials in 1979. I wonder if the paneling is laminated and the doors are hollow core. Nice find, Ethan.
Hi Ethan! Its a gorgeous home. 1970s is the era I love most. Unpopular opinion: this house gave me some bad vibes. Thank you for sharing it with us! 😀👍
That house is stunning!!! What a waste so worth cleaning up. Looks like it's just in need of a cleaning and then move in. That record cabinet is also a keeper. Breaks my heart to see a jem just tossed and unloved 😢
I like the house for the most part. I love the fireplace! The big bedroom upstairs was nice but the other 3 bedrooms had such a weird shape to them. With a little bit of updating, the house would be perfect!
😍 I love this house (as is) The wallpaper is amazing!! 😍 spiral staircase, I'm in love. Yep another Great experience! Thank you Ethan... 😢 to see this one go. 😂, I remember that (getting card symbols wrong) ooh my parents had a stereo just like that! This whole bottom floor is my favorite part of the house ... thus far! 😊 Yeah, I'd have to tweak the 2nd floor a bit but I still like the unique layout. Again Thank you Ethan ❤
GAAAHHHHH!!!!! My eyes! My eyes! Like the late sixties thru early 80s automobile industry, this was truly the "malaise era" of home decor. The dark wood, the cheap, synthetic textiles, the earthy, deep colors, the wrought iron, the wall-tex wall treatments, the precious wallpaper borders, the golden oak, the imposing decorative switch plates, the cheap white and gold "french" chipboard vanity, the overly imposing brick fireplace, the fake Tudor basement, the jacuzzi tub surrounded by mirrors....this house certainly is a showcase of seventies style! Excuse me while I stick my fingrr down my throat. 😂
Love the brick fireplace spiral staircase the green wallpaper was amazing the floors were amazing the only thing that was an impressive about this house was the the bathrooms they were average❤ good job
OMG, this house was AMAZING and in such good condition, too--and it's going to be DEMOLISHED?! WHYYYY?! The Brass, the fixtures, the OAK EVERYWHERE! FARK what a DREAM to have and live in this house--yes, those were little closets in those bedrooms, perfectly sized for children--and I bet those other 'small' doors led to the others' bedrooms so the kids could play in each other's rooms and such. OMG, this was definitely someone's childhood home. I could gush on and on and ON about this one; what an incredible house! Just replace the carpet in one of the rooms and sort a few other bits, and you could LIVE IN IT, still!
6:36 if you see that ceiling fan in the back, that is a Nutone Friction Drive. They were sold in the 70s. It is 100% original to the house. They were known to be extremely noisy though.
I would love to watch a few episodes of that old animated Star Trek television programme in front of the fireplace on a cold winter's day. Do tell me, was the electricity left on at that lovely house? If so, I shall locate it and bring my 19" RCA come December.
Absolutely amazing home! That hifi stereo was a blast from the past! And rhat fireplace was spectacular! Thank you for taking us along. Much love, cant wait for the next one!
Ethan, as a very young man u have a great appreciation of 50, 60, 70s architecture, house where made to last and also liveable with the ability to be upgraded, not much wasted spaces, all they build is shit now, im sure growing up people of my generation did not appreciate byt now definately do, keep it up u vring great memories to us 60 plus viewers
Oh, the memories. We had one of those console record players with the radio growing up. It was terrible to have to move, weighed a ton 😂. We had a console TV too, that had a remote that didn’t work the same way modern ones do. You pushed the channel button and it made a little whooshing noise and the channel would go to the next channel and if you missed the channel you wanted you had to go all the way through the channels again. Volume was the same, it went from on through higher volume and then off. I had a piece of chain from a hanging lamp that I was tossing around and it changed the channel! 😂 I was surprised that in a house with those high end finishes that the bedrooms had such poor closets. Those low closets are not for big people, with full sized clothes.
Another sweet vid and house, thank you Ethan. I truly enjoyed your tour. Always enjoy your remarks as basement temperature is cool and refreshing and the upstairs bedroom area very hot.
Talk about a throwback to the 70's I absolutely love it and if I had that home I would not change anything about it and I would not get rid of the radiogram a beautiful home Ethan
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this house! Its Retro, its Classy, and its awesome! if I had the money I would either buy it, ot if they'e going to knock it down, have it moved to California brick by brick! I love it that much 😍👍👍 Thanks for an Awesome explore Dude 😀
I really wish you had a flaslight. Unless your camera is about 4 inches from something it is too black to see. The house is so beautiful. The brick fireplace and how it circles around to incorporate the stairs is awesome. Clearly it up, replace some carpet, paint, an you have a great house. Get the pool and deck ready to go. I have always loved oak. So awesome. Thank you Ethan. Another fantastic catch. Blessings to you sir, always be safe. 😁
My parents had a console stereo similar to the one in the basement. Their stereo also had an AM FM tuner. I've always had soft spot for those type of systems. Wish I had the space in my apartment for one.
Sometimes watching these makes me very sad and very angry. We see all these nice places brand new almost and sometimes the mansions that cost tens of millions of dollars and they just get torn down and wasted. We have so many homeless people in this country that would give anything to have a nice place to live and we just waste it!
Hi Ethan I like this house. That master bath was breathtaking to say the least. Rich folks do know how to live. I saw this house a couple of weeks ago when James did it but in your version the upstairs hall didn’t seem so dark as it did in his. But anyway that pool must have been sooo coool before that tree grew in it. I like the kitchen too. That chair you mentioned that was in the garage here in the USA we call it an Adirondack chair. You called it something else. You did get the card suits right. Who was that that stuck his head in and said what are you doing in my house? I know it wasn’t the owner but I’m curious to know who it was. Ethan you really should consider becoming a real estate agent. You could make so much money💰💰💰. You already know how to show a house. It would be a cinch for you and you could still do this. Anyway stay safe and well and we will see you in the next video.❤️♣️♦️♠️👍
Funny, that thought has run through my mind often while watching Ethan’s videos. He could start his own company, offering video listings for real estate businesses. I know I would love to see a video listing over pics of a home any day.
