Those flashed frames are timing light changes in the printer. It's either from old lights, or a huge difference in exposure from one shot to the next. Flashed frames from the camera motor ramping up or down would be accompanied by motion artifacts... sped up action over those affected frames.

A Whammo Air Blaster, completely unaltered, available in every toy store in the country, kids watching this film when it first came out could not have failed to recognize it. It shot a (supposedly) harmless puff of air after being "pumped" with that lever on top and when it did it even made that exact "Pop!" noise you hear it make in the film. When I was a kid I visited my cousin & he had one (this was in the 80's, long after it had been banned, it must have originally been his father's or something)

Omg, Mark! I was 7 years old in 1964 and Mrs. Braxton, the Den Leader, took our entire Cub Scout troop to the Saturday matinee to see, Santa Claus Conquers the Martians. But the Den Leader only had two parent chaperones to watch over all of us, and the movie theater was packed with kids. So when that groovy ending song started all the kids in the movie theater began dancing, and running, in the aisles. It was "Pandemonium at the Bijou Theater", and it was the best time I've ever had at the movies! Merry Christmas Everybody! 🎁

The Martian names remind me of the elves names in Disenchantment. In fact I think one is actually called Droppo. Possible inspiration by Matt Groening?

As a little kid growing up in the 70s, I loved this film. Watching it takes me back.

My favorite lines from the MST3K riff; "They eat not, they sleep not..." "They ARE not". "Can't you say anything besides 'Ho, ho, ho'?" "No, no, no!"

18:07 that gun... I swear I had a toy just like it but it was decades after this. So did it get made for a change then, sit on the back burner, and come around again? It shot a pic of air to knock over targets. I admit, we ran around with them because we thought the reload was like a gun slinger rapid firing the hammer. We took pride in how fast you could do it. You know, that might be in my attic...

In my opinion Santa Claus (or Santa Claus vs The Devil) is stranger than this film. Both are hysterically terrible and are best watched with an MST3K or Rifftrax commentary accompanying them, making it a more amusing viewing experience. I had never heard of Santa Claus before catching it on MST3K. How did slip through my attention for so long. I wish I could have seen this as a kid. I genuinely enjoyed it when I got to see the uncut version on TCM. RedLetterMedia did a very funny review of it for one of their Christmas themed episodes. Please review it if you haven't already. This should be a staple of the Christmas season.

Is it just me or does Droppo have one of the most wholesome, loveable funny faces, I could hug any day?...........

This is one of the few channels that have me laughing out loud to myself, prompting my wife, usually in bed beside me trying to sleep, to hit me in the ribs, but I can't stop chuckling. You're consistently hilarious.

To be fair, the US Air Force's reaction times in the film were pretty realistic to that in the 1960's. Depending on the alert status and year, you'd have bombers and fighters constantly patrolling the air with others sitting on the on ground ready to take off. The anti aircraft missiles could be ready to launch in a couple of minute's notice etc. Pretty scary stuff considering.
@troyschulz2318

It's the only remotely realistic thing in this movie 😂

Oh I totally get the Air Force having a super fast reaction time, it’s the entire sequence of events leading up to it though, 2 mins! Including detecting the UFO, contacting the Soviet Union and having them respond, sending out a news bulletin, etc

Did anyone get goose bumps watching Mark's heist scene? Reminded me of the bank robbery in Heat (admittedly with slightly less tinnitus and less Val Kilmer though.)

The extra suit was made by lady momar. As for the rescue rocket, Kim’ar turned on the repaired radar shield. They missed the Martian ship, flew on into space, and all died. Merry Christmas.
