Hi guys, here’s a really easy and fast way that I carve simple cats with a Dremel rotary tool. You don’t need a lot of bits or burrs, and you don’t need a lot of artistic prowess. The video is split into sections as seen below and on the red timeline. You can make this carving with just about any rotary tool, and it shouldn’t take more than a couple hours. Let me know what you think!

If you're looking for more wood carving designs and videos, I recommend watching the video where I carve a greek paddle with a Dremel 4300. I use Walnut, Poplar, and Epoxy! The epoxy was a hassle but came out really cool.

This made for an excellent beginner tutorial. I didn't have any good hardwood so i cut off the end of a 2x4 and made one in about an hour and a half total using a combo of bandsaw, a 4.5 inch kutzall coarse shaping disc, a Dremel and some hand sanding. I need to get more small kutzall burrs. Being pine i dropped it and the tail broke off but no worries one of our cats is missing a tail so it is fitting.

I have a dremel and I got the 561 drill bits. However I tried to use it on the wood and it’s barely getting into the wood. I’m not sure what wood it is as my dad found it in the shed for me but the dremel is very old. Could it be due to the old dremel model ?
@LogsCarvingClub
@LogsCarvingClub Год назад
Hi, what model Dremel is it? It may be the bit is dull or the tool is old. It could also be the brushes. I don't really know.
@time2cclear

i have a question : (i dont know a thing about wood ) . is it possible to cut a branch (like 4 inches in diameter by 6 inches long ) off an oak tree and use it to carve something like this? or does it have to be dried out after i cut it off the tree ? im not sure where i can get the wood i need to carve .
@LogsCarvingClub
@LogsCarvingClub 2 года назад
You can probably cut 4 inches of green wood pretty easily with the 561, I‘ve never used fresh wood because I worry it’ll warp as it dries (it also needs to be dry to take up oil well). I also like cut hardwood because it makes it easy to get the feet of the animal level. Otherwise I don’t think using a branch would be a problem. I buy wood at lumber yards or Home Depot (or specialty wood stores). Usually you can get small amounts of hardwood that carve pretty well. I think soft woods are annoying but oak and other hardwoods would be good
