It just dropped to $60 here in S. NV recently, but always get 5-10% off, so really $54-57. Found a store that did a pick of the BP Rye last month, at JD in TN. Don't know if they will up charge for that (like ECBP), but guessing they will, since had to goto TN & also never seen 1 of those in town.
I got excited when I saw this thumbnail. I have a JDSBBPR that is so good that it beats out Handy imo. Never had the Bookers Rye, though. The JDs are the best available whiskey on the market.
Last I saw the Booker's it was $3K. I'll take the Jack. From Bonded to SBBP to 10/12yr. to Coy Hill they have it all across the price and proof spectrum. I do love the Booker's 2023-04 Storyteller. Great bottle for $100. Never been able to touch the rye however.
I have the Booker's Rye as one of the top 10 whiskies I've ever had. It's not necessary because the flavor of it is the greatest thing in the world. But it is one of the most unique whiskies I've had. The Jack Daniels is delicious, but I can probably pull a half dozen things off my shelf that have a similar profile. But if I wanted the Booker's Rye, I don't have anything that is really similar.
JD BP rye was very hard to find for awhile but now I'm seeing them on the shelf at reasonable prices. I have one but haven't opened it yet. I'll never see the Booker's. But the best bottle I ever bought was Kentucky Owl 11 yr rye Batch 01. I paid about $130 for it and it was worth 3 times that.
I love the JD SBBS Rye....need the bigboy pants for that stuff....Going through a bottle of the WT Rare Breed Rye which is another great rye about 16 proof points lower.
Nice, the lowest I've seen those is $47.59, but it's a shitty barrel & not even worth it, at that price. They still haven't sold them all & got them in May or before. The 1792 Full Proof SiB Pick I have is much better & paid $45 total. Have not given up though. Want to get a good JD BP that everyone talks about. Had 2 barrels of the BP Rye & both of those are much better. The BP bourbon seems very young. There is zero spice, zero oak/wood & tons of alcohol burn on finish. It's just a flat sweet palate. It's likey just a JD Black barrel at Brl Prf, but 1 of the upper floor barrels.
It’s all in what you prioritize. There are a select few bottles I’d spend that on, not because I value the whiskey that much, but because I value sharing that whiskey with special company to make special memories. Not too dissimilar to splurging on a nice meal with special company from time to time.
If the JD SBBP rye is half as good as the bourbon, then it's gotta be fine whisky. I'm a bourbon guy, and only want rye whisky now and again, but that Jack Single Barrel Barrel Proof rye is on my wish list. And right now I'm drinking Hard Truth Sweet Mash Rye, so proof and rye don't scare me. 🥃🙂
It’s actually fallen down to the mid teens with the softening whiskey market, but was $300 when it released. It’s funny to think so many of us passed it by at that price given how rare it ultimately would be.
I dared to buy the JD single barrel barrel strength with 64.5 ABV, without diluting it is only fire on the palate and compressed aromas on the nose. I really don't understand the obsessive mania for certain cask strengths. 🤔
Could just be that single barrel or could be a palate preference (or personal acclimation) thing. Some folks enjoy hot sauce and others think ketchup is too spicy. Whiskey isn’t much different.
I'm about to lay down some (hopefully constructive) criticism, so either brace yourselves, or delete this comment now. Erin, your point about not questioning your method is valid. Heck, it's the whole point of having you both on the channel, different methods, different opinions. However, Josh's comment about long finishes and possible cross-contamination is also extremely valid. Especially in the wake of your comment about the whiskeys starting to taste the same. Your casual dismissal of it caused me to disregard your final judgment on these whiskeys. *Most importantly*, while I don't actually know what is going on in your guys' heads, so maybe (hopefully) this is a nothingburger for you...I found that whole exchange (and the following one about opinions) to be very awkward and uncomfortable to watch. To the point that I started skipping ahead through the video. Because while this may be part of the 'Stuff' in your channel title, I can't help but recommend that any kind of personal drama, whether real or perceived, should just be edited out.
That’s fair if that’s how you feel. We laughed about that exchange afterwards, and if it were serious it wouldn’t have been on the video at all, but at the end of the day this is just whiskey. Erin has her processes, I have mine, and it’s okay if we disagree in our book. It happens more often on our livestreams and you can clearly tell it’s something we’re having fun with and neither of us take it too seriously.
