For NG+2/3: Start on mild/medium, then swap to "WHOA!" when there are 1/2/3 mAnts spawned.

What the devs were using:

To everyone saying it doesn't work It only works on the higher ng from like around ng3-4 The damage being dealt is way more so thorns works way better You're better off doing things the normal way unless you're already at the higher ng levels

It seems like this will work in higher ng+ worlds but the summon damage just doesnt scale up enough to reproduce your strategy in 1 or 2 worlds.

I discovered this yesterday against the wasp queen but I didn’t think about battle buddies and kept killing myself hitting my summons on accident 😂

Seeing it live today cracked me up!!! Dinky was disgusted after trying normally for an hour straight on what should’ve been the ideal build.

dude the only real update they need is making the milk molar map markers go from ones you already mined to ones you've discovered but havent mined yet

Are you using custom mode/settings to get so high in NG+'s?

The best way to do this is to have maxed out armor and tools and bam 10 seconds later you got it.

It’s important to note that this will only work effectively (or at all really) in NG+4 and beyond The boss doesn’t do enough damage in the lower game modes back at itself with Thorns to kill it

Ok so basically you need to put in on woah mode I suggest putting it woah mode when all your summons spawn

This build is good to abuse for grinding bosses for upgrades and multiple boss sets once you've done them the first time though. If you're just grinding boss parts and want it done and dusted quickly, or you want to do the same boss multiple times, very useful.

Is it mandatory for the x4 because just with the set it doesn’t work

This build just shows how overuned the boss dmg is

when looking at the armors from the ant queens i thought the red one was the better of all of them but i didnt think it was this good

I think it only works on 4ng+ or higher cuz I tried on one of my old saves with ng+1 and it happens but not as fast

"Take no damage" as he has player dmg turned off so he can't be hurt

Can you use any other ant armor like fire ant or black ant?

i might use this without the whole.. explosion part of the build

Trying this out and it isn’t killing the bosses in any different amount of time than usual. You sure you aren’t missing explaining something or maybe this is only a viable option in later NG+ tiers?

Someone has to go into custom and go to like ng20 and see if this build works still

Does the sour mutation work on summons

I use this build all the time for bosses. I started NG+4 yesterday and ended up getting an infused dagger with summon thorns on it from the Broodmother. I hope they don't ever nerf this. It's so satisfying being able to kill the mantis in like 30 seconds😂

Watch them patch this build in a heartbeat before balancing the bosses…..

Additionally for the build you can use hyperexaustion max assassin perk and apex predator with the mantis blade for even faster speed

This is 100% the kind of thing where its like "If you try this a couple thousand times, it will accidently work once". The boss has aggro'ed on my summons 1 single time in about 45 attempts, and the time it actually worked wasn't even that time, it just felt like complete and absolute luck. Like yes, this does work, but its at the odds of having to roll 5 D20 dice and getting a 20 on all of them. You will probably burn out your harddrive from all of the autosaves before you actually kill all 4 bosses this way.

Will blast wave and mantis damage work?

It's like the better version of the old punch build

yeah it has to be ng+3 or higher because the lower ones do not do enough damage!

I figured the reason why your summons do damage to you is because you’re hitting your summon, which procs their thorns, onto you lmao

When the boss roars I still get destroyed. Any tips?

What trinket you think better for this build 1) +critical hit chance/ +boss damage/ ++summon thorns Or 2)+summon thorns/loot luck/ +summon attack speed

Pretty sure you could boost it more by using the bard's bow and apex predator so you also summon wasps too. Also, what happens if you use apex predator on the ant septer/staff?

Does she not drop infused goop like the other bosses. Downed her twice only using this method and only got her regular drops.

Ive failed doing at leat 20 times trying to farm broodmother. dont got a trinket with summon thorns

grounded is such an fantastic game i wish they made like the hole map random etc but its a shame 1.4 is the last content update :(

The bosses never aggro on my summons. Any suggestions? Cause I can't beat the mantis cause of its unblockable attacks :(

I’ve done this on NG+ 1 and its not without risk. The scream from the BM will 1 shot you still in a lot of cases the summons are rng, I had all possible summons equipped with a bow build and it took 10+ arrows for my first summon (obviously unlucky but possible) melee is super risky too because 1-2 accidental hits on your summon will kill you. He’s on NG+ 7 so the bosses do even more ludicrous damage which is making them die quicker this isn’t AS effective on NG+ 1-3 but still strong you’re effectively a glass cannon since red ant strategist is T1 armor

If you take apex predator and use the bards bow you can get a pretty good chance to summon wasps as well

Anyone else’s summons not coming out fast enough so you end up getting destroyed in one hit by the boss

yeah this is probably ng+ 4 or higher depending on mutations on enemies because im on MILD in ng+1 and i tried 12 times and this did NOT work because i died every time and the most damage i saw the mantis take was about 3 health bars and i saw about 3 ants 4 spiderlings and the mant going at it on 1 of the try's

Tried it before going to NG+. The results were pretty much garbage. The summon thorns work great when I hit them, but it does absolutely nothing against IBM. So it might only be a NG+ build

This broken armor set is a lucky break. The sheer power of it may force a faster patch, amongst other fixes. Would be nice to stop getting one-shot on Medium... EDIT: Doesn't seem to work now for some reason. The bosses straight up refuse to aggro onto your summons.

I don't think they need to patch the thorns buff, I think this just goes to show how absurdly hard the bosses hit, I mean come on the mantis is just unfair now.

All the ant queen armors should have been tier 3.

It’s people like you that get the fun nerfed out of non competitive games. It’s a single player or multiplayer non-competitive game, some OP builds should definitely exist. Especially when it’s end game content that creates the OP build. In Dark Souls you can get a few items from the beginning and One button press kill every boss.

Its not broken. Its perfectly balanced. Especially when it spawns your summon directly where you are swinging so you oneshot yourself
