Blag, blah, blah... Coffee is the same at all the chains. Dunkin vs Starbucks vs Caribou or whatever other... All the same. None are better than the others
From what I know, Dunkin' Donuts doesn't _bake_ their donuts _on site!_ They are _shipped_ to these locations; and when your nearest location runs out of the donut you want (which happens quite frequently in my neighborhood in the _early_ afternoon), you're shit out of luck until the next shipment, which is not always _every_ day, when last I checked.
Yeah I'll never understand why either of them is still in business. Starbucks is way overpriced and Dunkin hasn't been good in 25 years. Their donuts used to be great but now taste like dogshit.
I keep hearing the Cane's menu is small supposedly to facilitate quick-turn service, but every Cane's I've ever been to has some of the slowest service I've ever experienced at a fast food restaurant. Maybe the Phoenix metro locations are just managed by a really incompetent franchisee, but I've never been impressed. I don't get what causes the hype.
All they serve is fries and chicken tenders. Honestly how hard is it to have those 2 items always ready to go? Nearly every time I have gone to Canes the wait has been like 10-15 minutes in the drive thru
@@Wilderness-Will In my experience, they're leagues ahead of other dedicated chicken restaurant chains when it comes to service speed. It's no Mc'Ds in terms of speed, but it certainly kicks the crap out of any of your other options if it's specifically chicken strips you're looking for.
In-n-out delivers a $3 made to order burger that they butcher and has never been frozen with $2 fries that are peeled and cut on premise. That’s impressive and if it’s overrated then who does that better?
The only place in my area on this list is Dominoes and honestly the only time i ever ordered from them was when they were the only place that was open and I was too tired to cook something. Desperation and hunger does strange things to people and that's probably why they continue to succeed with their ultra bland pizza.
Taco Bell makes me so sad. I used to love eating there in my teens and college days - though back then they actually served something vaguely resembling food and texmex affair. You're absolutely right, the food now is awful. Take away everything good and replace it with inferior versions of themselves using cheaper stuff.
Absolutely agree with Shake Shack, when i first tried them in very early 2022, they tasted like the middest burger i ever had in my life. Never have i had such an "ok" burger in my life, but yet for a while i saw that journalists were going nuts over them for seemingly no reason.
theyre unreasonably expensive too. which knocks a mid burger down to bad if you overpaid for it. imo. shakes were normal too. steak and shake had far far far better shakes.
Five Guys is outrageously expensive for what it provides. The best places to eat are generally local franchises or independent restaurants. I almost never eat at a fast food joint anymore.
Bourdain would eat goat nut and blood stew in some backward 3rd world country and rave like it was the best thing he ever had in his mouth. Yeah, good taste - less filling. LMFAO
This is a very odd way to do reviews. Apparently, to be any good at all, a restaurant has to serve a wide variety of different foods. Why? Since when is that a requirement? That eliminates all the restaurants that sell just one or two really good things like In-N-Out hamburgers. They only sell hamburgers - but they are really good hamburgers. If you set your parameters this narrowly to "every good restaurant must have a wide variety of foods, or it's a bad restaurant," you completely prejudice your findings. And you end up with some pretty silly claims. That really does not make much sense to me.
Domino’s red sauce is like battery acid, I swear. I really struggle these days to find a reliably good pizza joint anymore. Nothing will ever beat Pizza Hut back around the turn of the century. Now they’re just grievously overpriced and their dine-in appeal has been long, long abandoned
When I was a little kid in Massachusetts, they were such a treat. They baked the donuts there, they had a counter with those round padded metal stools. Now it's meh at best. And the coffee ain't all that either.
I love Cane’s because it’s always the same. The focus on one thing so it’s insanely fast service, so the limited menu speeds it up. At other places I only order one thing usually, so to me it isn’t a downside.
Domino's was good about 40 yrs ago when I was in the Army, but the last time I had their pizza, I was tempted to just eat the box cuz the pie sucked. Canes doesn't do much for me, and we don't have Shake Shack, Nathan's or In and Out around here, but I'll take your word for it. 😁
I'd say affordable over cheap. Where else can you pull off the freeway (bc that's where most are) and feed the whole family for under $35? The fries are literally cut fresh to order, beef is never frozen, milkshakes use real ice cream, etc. It's not the best burger and fries, but for the price, it's unbeatable, the value King. Gordon Ramsey called it his favorite LA Fast Food and Anthony Bourdain gushed about it. Then again, what do they know, apparently this dude knows better 😂
Hahahahaha, putting In-N-Out at number one was the best way to get clicks and comments and make a buck. Here’s my tenth of a cent contributing comment for your ingenuity. You’re welcome. Gosh I thought they’d be right up there with the really best burgers like…DQ, hahahahah.
Domino's: It became popular because it made delivery fast and reliable. Something you likely take for granted today. And the pizza was worse before, but they made it better since. Now it's decent, but it has a strong foothold now. In-N-Out: Totally agreed. West coast people are obsessed and I don't get it. Too few items and bland food. I like that they pay their employees better and that's it is fresher, but that's it. Shake Shack: I like them. Not as good as Five Guys, but I like diverse options to choose from.
The writer/narrator must be a Five Guys and Chick-Fil-A fan, two places that definitely belong in the "Overrated Hype" club. Instead he trashed their competitors Shake Shack/In-N-Out and Raising Cane's. The agenda is obvious. My top three would be: Chick-Fil-A, Dunkin', Jamba Juice
Domino's started as Dominic's, selling pizza and delivering to students at Eastern Michigan U., not too demanding on quality. Not surprisingly, they don't do well in areas with Italian Mom n' Pop pizzerias, here, and also their foray into Italy was a disaster. Their original delivery time (15 min?) was unrealistic. In Northville, Mich. they were downtown in a strictly enforced 25 mph speed zone - and the city made a lot of ticket revenue off of them.
Re: Raisin' Canes..... It's all about that sauce. I travel to Ohio twice a year for the Sonic Temple festival and then again in the fall to go to Cedar point and when we're in Columbus we usually eat at Canes almost every night. The chicken is the perfect meal after a day of drinking and that sauce is oh so good. We just got a location here in CT so maybe now that I have the option to go more than once a year the allure will wear off but we'll see
I like this video, but as a fan of Domino’s and Raising Canes, those got my ire. Here’s my personally top-5 (no particular order) Taco Bell Dunkin’ Donuts Starbucks Chipotle Schlotzky’s
“In-and-out is overrated.” That’s funny, some of words best chiefs and a think it’s the best fast food. Then again, why do they know. Bubba thinks Whataburger is good.
TL:DR Californians love In and Out because it is a teen hangout spot. As someone born and raised in California I’m an in and out supporter. The reason why In and Out gets so overrated by us here in California is because, to us, In and Out is an experience. I don’t mean that in some philosophical sense, just saying that In and Out is a place that you’d frequent as a teen if you lived here in California for more then just the food. Its cheep, open late, and above all a good burger. That makes it a perfect hangout for teens with lots of free time and limited money. It’s a good place to go after a late game with the team or midday after school. The shop is almost always packed with teens eating inside all the way till closing everyday. Also since their parents, usually, wouldn’t want to wait at peak times, teens usually had to go themselves which created some demand imo. It becomes great post night out food in your 20s and then an occasional family meal after you settle down. You can’t have it often, because health and/or wait times, but you still like the burger and will pass that onto your kids. Now wrap all of that up in a bit of nostalgia and you’ll understand why we talk about a good burger like it’s the best on the planet.
I have been to Jersey Mike’s just twice and would never go back. They refused to honor general prepaid debit cards as payment. Subs get drowned in dressing/sauce to the point where it overpowers the taste of everything else. Employees seemingly get pressured to talk at length with customers in an unnatural way while they are making the subs, which leads to both awkward conversation and distracted sandwich making. Just about sandwich/sub shop has been better for me.
youve not ate a subway excuse of a sub in atleast a decade then. their excuse for meat is dreadfully terrible. their employees usually couldnt give a fuck less. usually a dirty look to them or just bland colors. if you order anything not meat related your risking food poisening imo
I feel In-N-Out and Canes have the same issues: their food/meat itself is pretty bad, but their sauces do a lot of heavy lifting to make people like it
If the food quality actually matched the price (either mediocre but cheap or excellent but pricey), it wouldn't be so bad. Instead, we overpay grossly for a mediocre product.
Domino's has had at least three complete changes to its basic pizza recipes since their inception. First one, pretty bad (though I have definitely had worse... MUCH worse!). First major change was in the late 90's, I think... Sure, it didn't suddenly become GREAT, but pretty decent. A few years later, maybe 2005-ish, they changed again... Different from the previous, but not really better or worse. But it's fast-food pizza... Okayish and cheap, and fast. So if you haven't tried a Domino's pie since the 80's, it's a LOT better now. Just listened a bit further, something about people "perceiving it was the best"... Nahh, that never happened. Nobody in their right mind ever thought Domino's pizza was terrific.
I lived in LA in the 1980s, when In 'N Out Burger was as great as everyone says. Also they got you "in and out" in 2 minutes, not the 45 minute wait they're "famous" for now; that's just ridiculous. In the past 5 or 10 years they started expanding to other cities and states, and I couldn't wait until they opened near me. When I had my first burger in over 30 years, it was AWFUL. It was NOT the same In "N Out Burger that had been in LA way back then, it was not even a good burger. I'm guessing the burgers must be much better in LA even now, otherwise people there who know how good they're supposed to be wouldn't stand for it. p.s. LA was a much better city itself back then.
I recently moved to NE, and everyone here gives massive praise to Raisin Cane's and Runza. Raisin Cane's is just okay, and I find Runza downright gross. There's not a lot of food options where I'm currently staying. I do miss good food, although it's harder than ever to afford it with all the corporate greed skyrocketing prices, so it matters less. Side notes: Five Guys has decreased in quality during expansion, but is still better than its competition imo. Chipotle obviously isn't Mexican, but also isn't Tex Mex-and I like nothing on their menu. I haven't visited a Dunkins in a decade due to their constantly stale and bland donuts. I've always thought of Dominos as low quality, poorly cooked pizza. Even as a lover of almost all things sugary, I can't stand Pizza Hut's weirdly sweet pizza sauce-it tastes more like pure tomato sauce with brown sugar added. I grew out of the overly cheesy, somewhat soggy Papa John's over a decade ago. And don't ever order any non ice "cream" item from DQ. Meanwhile, I love McDonald's, Culver's, Freddy's, Steak n' Shake, Burger King, Popeye's (when the line is long or when you know someone who works there), Five Guys, and I'm sure a few more I'm forgetting right now. I like, but don't love, Wendy's and KFC. Just the random opinions of a random internet user.
The price thing is the reason for In-N-Out being so popular. Dollar to taste ratio is off the charts. I can get a full decent meal there for $10 or less. I've got to go over $10 guaranteed for anything I think is half decent at other places.
I gotta disagree with the dominos thing, not because they're SUPER good, but other than them, my options are Pizza Hut, Papa John's, and Little Caesars. My real favorite is a local brick oven place near me, but as far as chains go, I'm going with dominos [almost] every time (also I get a two topping, so it is usually fresh, that might play a role in me actually liking them). It's good when I don't have a whole lotta money to burn, but enough for a slightly above-average chain restaurant pizza. Little Caesars when I'm broke, Dominoes when I'm doing okay, and Cerrone's when I got money (also one of my friends work there and it's in walking distance :))
Grew up in New England. Didn't try In-N-Out until I was 18 and thought it was insanely mediocre relative to the hype it receives from cali natives. Same for Whataburger/Texans.
I'm a little surprised McDonald's and Wendy's aren't on this list , they seem a little more overrated than In n' Out and Shake Shack . Plus when you mentioned Domino's , as far as pizza places go , I think Little Caesars should have been on the list , when you're talking about bland tasting cheap pizza .
I must object strongly about Nathan's. I'm not a big hot-dog eater, but I've had Nathan's hot dogs occasionally over the years and I've never had a bad one. Admittedly, there are none near where I live so I probably haven't had one in over 10 years, but unless their quality has gone down recently, they are NOT one of the most overrated chains. I've eaten at Cane's once and it was just fine, but we have Zaxby's around here and it's just about the same. And I've never eaten at In-N-Out, so I cannot comment on them.
Honestly Canes is one of the most underrated chains imo… at a time they were overrated but everyone hating on them I just don’t get it. What they these “reviews” “rag on” them for is actually what makes they good They are a chicken tender and fries fast food restaurant with a good sauce. Everything is meant to be dipped with the sauce. Idk why people act like dipping food in a sauce somehow makes it inferior They are incredibly consistent due to the simplicity and no one is gonna be surprised good or bad. It’s a solid simple meal during the week when you don’t know what to make imo. Not 10/10 but not 4/10 either generally a 7/10
couple over rated places to me. five guys. sure, hteie meat is always fresh but for one person, a burger and fries is like $15 they dont taste THAT much better to justify the price. BK whopper is still *THE BEST* burger firehouse subs... i can go to dibellas and get lasrger subs for less. eg, a medium at dibellas is about the same price as a large at firehouse BUT its a lot bigger in circumfrence
I hate coleslaw. Every time Raising Cane's does not omit it from my order I'm pissed. Vienna Beef hot dogs are far superior to Nathan's. The only reason I go to Shake Shack is to buy their dog treats as gifts for friends.
Five Guys should be listed as number one. As soon as you made a good comment about Five Guys, I knew you would list In N’ Out. You Five Guys fanboys just can’t help yourselves
This is the second of forgotten places’ food chain videos that I’ve watched to bring up five guys. I’m not sure why but both the five guys locations in my area closed with then next closest one being an hour away. These restaurants didn’t have any glaring issues and I ate there on a somewhat routine basis to satisfy my burger cravings. I remember them seeming being busy enough to stay open. Anyone else experience this with five guys?
Probably my new favorite fast foot restaurant is Freddy's. It's one of those new great regional fast food chains. Stopped at one the other day and was disappointed that it was just an empty lot with one being built.
I live in LA and i can report that in and out is wildly overrated. It’s just a burger people take a picture of. The fries are crap and i suppose you could do them animal style but it’s still a boring fry. 😅
really looked forward to this video, but right at the start...dominos is the BEST pizza chain.. in my area. i like pizza hut more but we havent had one in years around here. i might be biased since my mom worked there growing up. and sure they admitted their crust was lousy, but *SINCE THE NEW CRUST*, theyve been better. just curious if you ever HAD the new crust??
In and out is better than five guys. Five guys burgers are so greasy. I lived in California in the 90's and if you got in a in and out without waiting the restaurant was either closed or there was a major earthquake.
I've never had In and Out since I don't live on the west coast. but Five Guys is highly overrated due to their price and the fact their burgers are served greasy as hell. As for Nathan's hot dogs, I would presume the hot dogs they sell at their signature restaurant is different from the hot dogs sold in supermarkets. If you wanted to list the most underrated hot dog stand, you could say Costco.
I could not care less about overrated. If a business captures and retains a customer base and remains profitable, it will probably continue. If it does not do that, it will probably not continue. Naval gazing is a fun hobby but the laws of the free market are immutable.
@@derbagger22 I'm sure most would agree Shack's burgers are 5 times better than the microwaved ones DQ serves. Shake Shack's frozen custard vs DQ bland soft serve, no contest there either.
@@racingphotographer8251 that maybe. however i can go to wendys and get a slightly better burger for less or go to five guys and get a better burger for less. or i can go to culvers and get a burger for less and a equal shake for less. steak and shake youd get both better and they were both cheaper too! shake shack is a robbery with their prices.
I'm in CA and In N Out is wildly over rated. It is the best priced fast food, and it's pretty clean as far as added junk goes. It's on par with how I'd cook at home, the hype is out of control. Miller's hot dogs beat Nathan's any day. I don't think Miller's has brick and mortar spots but they should.
A raisin canes just opened up close to me i havent been but that menu dosent seem appealing never been to in and out but i agree with the rest of the list
I really like In-N-Out as their burgers are pretty good but I have to agree it’s overrated. I find Five Guys overpriced and not that much better than McDonald’s (the most mid restaurants in my opinion). Burger King isn’t very good and I find it to be a worse McDonald’s. Texas people overhyped Whattaburger soooooo much and I don’t find it that good, it’s very mid. Chipotle is crap and I don’t find its food to be a better quality than Taco Bell. Subway is just a crap sandwich restaurant and I don’t enjoy eating there compared to Firehouse Subs, Jersey Mikes or Jimmy John’s.
five guys i find great and worth the inflated price. sure is better than shake shack. shake shack is twice the price of 5 guys with like a tenth of the fries that are nowhere near as good. i think wendys is better than mickey d and 5 guys to be just above wendys. i think the rest of your list is spot the fuck on tho!
I don't understand your apparent obsession with menu options. No one goes to anywhere fast food for the abundant options. They get the same thing every time. I've been getting Quarter Pounder with Cheese for forty years. People get peperoni pizza every time. Children get chicken nuggets. Chipotle equals constantly resupplied barabcoa flanked by full containers of dried up vegetable mystery material. Panda Express has two options that are always getting cooked and thirty-five that are drying up in the steam table.
The problem with almost every food place is that if you eat there enough, it gets old and widely tastes the same. It's probably psychological, but the really big fast-food chains manage to somehow keep their "food" addicting. I might tire of it after a week or two, but with over 40 years of eating McDonalds, I can still get a Big Mac or Quarter Pounder and fries back-to-back days without worrying that I'll get bored. If I get tired of McDonalds, you can bet that a month or two later I can binge it again for a few days. Of the places in the video, I've never been to a Nathan's or In-N-Out and have only visited Shake Shack a couple of times. I've only had Dominos in recent years if someone else ordered it. However, living in Louisiana, I need to address the Raising Cane's thing. They are good at what they do, and the ones around here (there are a lot around Baton Rouge for obvious reasons) provide quick service and quality food. That said, I moved back here two years ago and have gone to both Rasing Cane's and Zaxby's maybe two times each since then. Raising Cane's gets old quick, at least for me. Firehouse Subs used to be a treat when I lived in Georgia, but now that there's one a couple of blocks from my work, I order a sub every month or two and am increasingly disappointed as it just tastes bland. The same happened with Wawa, Sheetz, and Royal Farms when I worked in the DC area. No matter how big or small the menu, it all just tastes like [insert restaurant/deli here]. I stopped into a Wawa in Florida last year and got my old standby of an Italian hoagie. It felt like I'd just eaten one despite having last had one over a year previously in Northern Virginia. Long story short, "overrated" chains are subject to our tastebuds and loyalties. People down here love some Raising Cane's, and people everywhere love Chik-Fil-A, but if I want chicken tenders, I usually just hit up the local grocery store hot food bar, and if I want a chicken sandwich, I grab one from the gas station. The same goes for Dominos: if I'm ordering pizza, it's usually Papa Johns. If I just want a quick slice, whichever store offers Hunt Brothers is the place to go.
The growth of Cane’s Chicken Fingers is wild. Twenty minutes after you drive away, the food isn’t edible. Soggy Texas toast and gummy chicken strips for the folks waiting at home. If you eat it right away, it’s about as good as frozen chicken fingers from an air fryer. How can this be a real, growing business? Besides 12 year olds , who is having cravings for chicken fingers?
And you just lost my respect for your criticism of In N Out. Their burgers are fantastic and incredibly fresh. The quality slightly above average? You have no clue what you're talking about. It's a main reason why they are so popular. If I fly into a Western city that has one, that's my first stop. Always. Can't disagree with you more.
Sorry, you’re wrong about In-N-Out. The freshness and simplicity is what makes them great. Everything is fresh, meat is never frozen, no need for gimmicks or limited time options. If you go to a store in Salem, Oregon or Las Vegas or San Diego or Dallas it’s the same quality.
Strong disagree on Canes. Without reading all the comments, I'll make the obvious point that they have the philosophy of doing one thing and doing it well. They succeed at that. I go to my local one regularly and enjoy the chicken, bread, fries and their tasty sauce. My only complaint is the price has crept up. $13 (with tax) for the four-finger combo now. I wouldn't mind that so much, but the size of the fingers can vary, and I've been given the runts of the litter (2 out of the 4 fingers) a couple times on recent trips. They did replace two of them on one of these visits without any complaint.
You made the classic mistake of assuming that the general public wants good food. They just want bland tasteless food. Shake shack is just a hipster shack that got bigger. Don't sleep on In n out , it is a total cultural experioence. There fries are trash though. Straight fire burgers, straight trash fries.
The thing with In-n-out is the price. Best burger you can get no competition for that price. Plus they actually pay their employees and have decent benefits. Five Guys, IMO, is the most overrated chain. Way too expensive for a burger that would be both better tasting and cheaper at a place like Habit.
heh dominoes is bland. cheap. just as cheap as pizza hut. theres no competition. its either cheap pizza hut cheap dominoes. cheapest little sleazers, or any mom and pop or italian restraunt thatll be far far far more expensive. shake shack for sure isnt even better than wendys. let alone five guys. small normal tasting burgers. super spensive. like you idk how theyre even in business. no chipotle!?!?!?! thats my number one overrated place. moes is far better quality i think for less money. starbucks is trash. terrible coffee for the price. like buying a 1990 honda civic for 60k! was it worth it no. zero redeeming factors lol
Cheesecake Factory, Dunkin', Chick-FIl-A, Whataburger, The Halal Guys, Jollibee, and every bubble tea chain all belong here. Don't get the hype for any of them.
cheescake factory was so bad actually when i went. woulda preferred a buffet. chick fil-a is awful. spensive asf for normal fried chicken products. i think theyre so big cuz of the religious.
