It's still worth knowing which places will cater to your whole family and which are better skipped by some. For example, on initial view of their menu, Takumi Tei is all about seafood and wagyu beef so you might not expect much for vegetarians. I went with someone who wanted to do the Omakase and since the website only listed the meat/seafood details, I assumed I'd be going for the atmosphere and the company. Much to my delight, it turns out that they offer a vegan version of the Omakase tasting menu and it is absolutely SUPERB and worth every penny. You'd be surprised what places in Disney do an excellent job of offering a diverse menu and it's worth checking them out, not everything they offer is listed on the website. Sure, I don't mind when there's just one vegetarian option on a menu, but it's 100% worthwhile for DFB to let us know which places offer great options for everyone, and which fall a little short so we can squeeze in a few places with wow-factor for everyone at the table. ;)

Ohana is like a Deny's or a Perkins but on Disney property. If they were just out in the world next to a Deny's or a Perkins they would go out of business as people would not tolerate the prices. As for their service, they are a lot like the bad service you can count on at Deny's. I think we need to face the fact that many of us are letting our inner child be held hostage by the Disney Magic, and letting the money-grubbers that now run Disney get away with financial rape when we go to Disney. Next time you are at your favorite breakfast restaurant, ask yourself if you would pay a Disney price?

Cinderella's Royal Table is my number one "only do this if you REALLY want the experience" meal. You can meet the princesses at Akershus in a more kid friendly environment, and the CRT menu is just okay, not worth the price. But, I never have to wonder about what the restaurant inside the castle is like again. We also had a great spot after our meal outside the castle to see the Electric Light Parade the last year it was at WDW. So it was worth it for that memory, but not really much else.

@geoffk777 3 года назад
In all fairness, the answer to "which is most overrated?" is "All of them." Ok, you can get a great expensive steak at Yachtsman, or a fancy, high-quality expensive meal at Victoria and Albert's. But, generally, people go to Disney restaurants because of decor or character meetings or because they're visiting the park in general. I don't think any of these places would survive at their current food and prices in a competitive place like NYC or San Francisco. If you want to splurge on mediocre food, than Disney will do everything that they can to encourage you. But if you're really looking for "The Meal of a Lifetime", than Disney isn't the best place to do it.
@authenticmind

exactly right... I work in the city and dine out quite a bit at good restaurants... Disney food is just "meh" quality... think Applebee's wrapped up in a fancy themed packaging and inflate the price .... I wish they'd do better.. Universal has better food
@geoffk777
@geoffk777 3 года назад
@@MichaelRei99 No, I mean both. There are a few that are decent, but for 90% or more, the food is mediocre AND the prices for the food are exorbitant. If it was mediocre and cheap, than that would be unfortunate, but not uncommon. As it is, most of it is mediocre and quite expensive to boot, which makes it a bit of an overpriced rip-off But a lot of Disney apologists will still say "Oh, the food at XXX is so good!", which makes them overrated as well..
@authenticmind
@authenticmind 3 года назад
We always make sure we have a rental car so we can go off property for a meal each day. The price relief is part of it, but frankly, the food is so much better in many other establishments. It is also a huge relief to get a room with a kitchen in order to prepare something homemade and comforting.
@authenticmind
@authenticmind 3 года назад
@@MichaelRei99 Price has to be part of any rating, if the prices are outrageous then that can be the reason a restaurant is overrated. That would make almost everything you eat at Disney overrated. Would you find it to be a good deal on soda at over four dollars a bottle in any other location?

After 25 years of being annual pass holders and making Disney World our home for Christmas and New Years', we are giving up on Disney World. It may seem impossible, but we have always made reservations in advance and used fast passes to have an excellent time at Disney at Christmas. Disney always did take care of the guests that made reservations. In the last five years things have gone downhill, but the last two years we have been pretty much shafted on our Christmas Eve reservations. Two years ago it was Liberty Tree Tavern where we were 30 minutes early as we were not in a hurry and we went to register that we were present. We were told to come back in 30 minutes as they were running right on time. We came back about 25 minutes later after taking insulin before dinner, and we were told they were running behind 45 minutes. After waiting 45 minutes we asked for a manager who told us she didn't normally work at this restaurant, and it would be another 45 minutes. This manager said she could give us a voucher for the Habor House walk up but she had no idea about their wait time. We left the park and went to an off-property restaurant. Last year we set our reservation as always weeks in advance, this time at Chefs de France. Again, we were about 20 minutes early, we registered and then we were made to wait for an hour past our reservation. We tried to time our meal so we could watch the fireworks after our meal, now that couldn't happen. We complained to the manager and he explained it was Christmas eve. We have been eating on Christmas eve for 25 years and many other times, reservations are reservations. This is math, so many tables, so many reservations, so much time to eat. Did Disney staff not get the memo that December 24th is Christmas eve and it suddenly surprised them? If people come late if they have no reservation that happens, but I never think we should take someone else's seat if we have no reservation. For the kind of money Disney asks for these dining experiences, park admission, hotel costs, and more, how can they fall so far from the mark in honoring reservations? Treating employees like they are nothing, charging guests the highest prices, and expecting only to make money is a sad state of affairs. Uncle Walt would have an absolute fit at the kind of money-grubbers and cheats that have taken over his park. Now that Roy Disney Jr. is dead it seems nobody is standing up for what is at the heart of Disney's magic. When enough of us stop paying to go, they will blame us and close up shop having successfully killed the golden goose.

I totally agree on Be our Guest and Prime Time cafe. Be our Guest is great themed but it could be much better if you swap it out with a "Dine With Belle" dinershow where you can experience her diner in the Be Our Guest song and hosted by Lumiere. He could give you a show while introducing the other main characters of the movie and it would be a perfect diner location up there with the Royal Table whom I loved despite being super tired. I had high hopes for Prime time cafe but it felt short and I do not know how to fix it. The interactive side of things did not cut it for me but the theme is lovely and it could be a great character meal if you ad a couple 50ties era characters or a classic diner quick service spot if you rethemed it to a US roadside diner cafe setting with Jukeboxes and everything. Ohana Breakfast was my favorite. Be Our Guest isn’t necessarily bad, you’re just obviously paying more for the exclusive look inside Beast’s castle instead of a gourmet filet mignon

I feel like with everything running on a limited menu and the closures, it was VERY difficult as a vegetarian at the parks. So most of the places were overrated when I was paying for table service and getting the one item on the menu that was vegetarian friendly.

Agreed. We never went because no one in my family was particularly interested in eating in the castle when that's sort of the only draw. We did however eat at Coral Reef every single trip. Eating in an aquarium is too cool!

Just got back a couple of weeks ago. Had my wife’s birthday dinner at Le Cellier. It was great food (the Brussels Sprouts were amazing and my wife doesn’t even like them), atmosphere was nice, and steaks very good. The complimentary moose mousse my wife received was the capstone for a great experience.

It makes me so sad that Crystal Palace Buffet is on this list. Crystal Palace is one of my favorite places to go in Disney World. I understand that to some the food might not always be great (although I always love it!!), but I love this restaurant more for the happy atmosphere than the food. I get so excited to see the characters and get that big warm hug from Pooh, and the general environment of the restaurant just brings my heart rate down and makes my heart so happy.

love Disney and have made about 15 trips spanning four decades... that said it's not a place that will wow those with a discerning palate.... you have to accept you're paying big money for (at best) mediocre food. The ONLY exception to that would be Victoria and Albert's where I dined on my honeymoon

First time I ate a 50s prime time the green beans were steamed (far under done for someone raised on traditional southern food)... I asked 'my cousin ' (the waiter) if they could be cooked more he left with the plate and came back shortly saying 'mama said that they were done enough' .... I looked at him and said, but Grandmaw said they weren't dead yet 😋.... I don't believe he'd ever heard that one before as he looked a bit shocked left with them again, to return a few minutes later (nuked into submission I'm sure) with them cooked further, I received a extra large slice of pie for dessert 😇... from 'grandmaw'

Totally agreed on Le Cellier. Everyone goes on about how great it was but the food was nothing like pictured here ( cold, tough steak ). I'm the only American-born of all Canadians and was grateful to hear the rest of my party agree this was sub-par. Also, the service was the only rude experience we had in the 2 weeks we were there. All other restaurants and servers were great but all the waiters/waitresses here ( not just ours, others we watched ) were kind of sassy. They were a clique having a conversation and your needs were just bothersome, and they made sure to let you know it.

We had breakfast at Be Our Guest on our last 2 visits (2015 & 2018). The food was only OK, but the atmosphere was amazing (Beauty and the Beast is one of my favorite Disney movies!) For me the best part was that both times we had a very early reservation for before the park actually opened so we got to take a TON of amazing pictures by the castle and on Main Street with literally no one there but us! To me that was worth every penny! We have also eaten at Cinderella's Royal Table about 5 or 6 times, both for lunch and dinner. I thought that the food was pretty good and I absolutely LOVE being inside the castle. The last time we were there for dinner (2018) and we got a reservation for right after the fireworks (about 9:30pm), which was nice because we watched the show and then were able to have a late dinner and relax after a long day in the park. Also, because we were such a late seating we weren't rushed and when we were done we still had time to ride a few rides with almost no waits. Also, if you try to get reservations and they are booked, keep trying, even once you get there. We have actually been able to book Be Our Guest while we were waiting in line for the mine train! We just kept calling to check for cancellations!!! They are both a little pricey but being in the castles is magical!

Cinderella's Royal Table is an amazing place to save time only for character meeting when all the princesses are there. The 5-6 princesses you get is worth extra cost when you have princess loving kids (4-8 hours in park time). However it does not match Askerhaus but unless you are going to Epcot then it is the next step.

I think the problem is that most vloggers create a sense of intense desire in viewers to make these food locations a MUST when visiting. Then, after spending incredible amounts of money, only an average experience is had by the viewer and disillusionment kicks in.

SPOILERS AHEAD Crystal palace: i went there once with my family in 2013. I loved the characters but the (lunch) food was ok. Casey’s Corner: Only gotten a soda there so idk much. I do know that my mom tried to sit and charge her phone here and it was sooooo crowded. It was very narrow and really crowded. (at 10 in the morning!) Ohana: couldn’t say more good things about it. i have been for breakfast probably 4 or 5 times, with my family and close friends. I love the “all you can eat style” and the characters were so cute! Highly recommend breakfast 🥞 (great for kids as well) Le cellier: I have unfortunately never been here, but it’s definitely on my bucket list. Looks amazing! California Grill: I believe my parents have been here but i haven’t 🤣 (the view looks incredible, especially at night) Sci-Fi: i’ve always wanted to try this bc of the cute seating arrangements. Although i really don’t want to eat in the dark, it does look interesting 50’s Prime Time: I went here 2 years ago and i LOVED the milkshakes. My parents did tell the waiter to kind of tone down the act a little bit (my sister was only 4) The dinner food was ok, i would go back for dessert though! Chef Mickey’s: Last time i went here was 2009, and i remember none of it 🤣 (looks like a basic disney breakfast) Cinderella’s Royal Table: I had lunch here for my 6th birthday, and i loved it. The food was good, and i absolutely loved the view! (it’s also good to see all the princesses in one place) Be Our Guest: OMG i love it here. I have been for breakfast twice, and dinner once. i loved the steak, and i ordered “gaston’s breakfast” and i enjoyed it so much! it’s also so so so beautiful in there.

My hot take is all the signature dining restaurants are a bit overhyped. They are pretty much all very good but given the price and the fact that there are regular restaurants that have just as good food, I wouldn’t say they are necessarily must dos. More of a very nice to do once or twice on a trip in my opinion.

Places like Ohana swing back and forth based on the chef and the staff. It can suck for awhile and then have a renaissance and shoot back up the list. Right now I have to agree that Ohana is extremely overrated. Not only have they swapped out some of the recipes for their meats (what happened to the delicious white meat marinade for pork and chicken?!?!) but the staff frequently makes you feel like you are being pushed in and out as fast as possible to maximize seatings.
