I percieve optimistic people as overacting. Yes, I do try to live life to the fullest in my own way. Optimism and pessimism is a choice. I ran into this reel about Paulanka on bbc-website by accident and loved it, particularly the song sung by the two girls at 3:06. Catchy lyrics and music. I would want to visit the pessimistic little village of Paulanka someday. You guys rock for having such a sense of humor. There are many little communities around the world that may resemble Paulanka. I am a foreigner to Rough Rock, Arizona, at the heart of Navajo Indian Reservation, where I teach mathematics. As "pessimistic" as it may be here, I manage to keep myself busy. Humans adjust to any condition, be it geographical, or social. Paulanka will survive with the good people it has, as the ones featured in this video.

Aloha, I can relate! But is being too calm or living with boredom from the rural areas, or the mellow disposition of the Finnish people? I was married to a person who was part Finnish American and he was very happy to be calm & prefered home always. My kids do the same thing? They are homebodies, calm & they prefer simple pleasures. Maybe those things can be good? I heard in Finland, people speak to others more & have a more connected community. Is that true? In Nevada, where I used to live, there was little interaction with others within the day and often a disconnect within the community. You can end up very alone with no support. I hope and wonder if rural Finnish people really are happy? My adult kids and I moved years ago from chilly, snowy & blazing hot lonely area of Nevada to a more connected community in Hawaii for life long support. I'm hoping you have the support you need. Are you sometimes too bored or too alone? Hoping that you all have a long beautiful pessimistic joking lifes! (No one will probably read this anyways, don't know why I bothered to write! Jk!) Aloha always, Take care, Kai 😊

Im finnish. I live in the capital area, but when I visit relatives in smaller towns I'd say that it's kinda the same situation as in Puolanka, the people move away, the population decreases and ages and the businesses close. Eventually the towns get merged into other ones. Even in the bigger ones with over 10 000 people stores and railway stations are forced to shut down. I find it sad to see them decay away and as the guy in the video says, they become forgotten. I wouldnt say they are unhappy though, although it must be sad to see their hometown fade away. About the sense of community, the finnish stereotype is that everyone is kinda introverted and wont speak to each other, and people tend to avoid each other more here. I rememver travelling to Italy and being in a cafeteria, and some woman walks in and everyone greets her loudly and stuff. I've never really seen that happen here, people tend to be more quiet here (of course that doesnt mean that everyone here is like that). That doesn't mean that there is no sense of community though, many finns are really helpful and supportive. In the neighbourhood I grew up in, every family was friends with each other and we still keep in touch. I read some comments on a video about the worlds happiest countries that I'd say was pretty accurate, it was something along the lines of 'in many [latin american] countries people show really strong positive emotions but also really strong negative emotions. The finns however are pretty neutral, we dont really show any strong positive or negative emotions.' I'd say this describes us pretty well (remember this does not apply to everyone this is just a bit of my point of view and what I've seen here). I hope that answered your questions atleast partly
