I love it when people are surprised or even shocked when Bruce Wayne's parents are killed. I feel like that is pretty much common knowledge even when you don't read the comics. Being the main part of his origin. But it's wonderful when reactors know absolutely nothing about it.

I think marvel movies get an undeserved bad rep "shallow", the writing is often excellent (even though maybe not quite as deep as this trilogy, good humor is also good writing and I cant even describe how hard "I love you 3000" hit me as someone who thankfully has amazing parents who I used to tell, and hear from, a similar thing every evening. Marvel still has character dept and development, conflicts and consistency. People are nowadays sadly blinded by Marvel fartigue and the flashy action scenes and forget all the amazing things Marvel movies have done.

Just wanted to point out something I noticed recently (minor SPOILERS for those who haven't seen all three movies) - In that shot at about 4:05, there's an odd dripping faucet behind Bruce in the prison. It got me thinking a bit and I realized there's a motif of flowing water throughout the trilogy of movies, especially in the Batcave. I think it might have something to do with water as "the source" or "the inspiration" for Batman - a character that has a long tradition running back over 80 years. Tapping into the flow of water is like tapping into the tradition and mythology of Batman. In this movie about Batman's origins, the flow of water (in a prison that looks very much like the Batcave) starts as a mere trickle. And if you think about the last shot of the third film [SPOILER] - Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the Batcave stands on a slab rising out of the water as the tradition is passed to a "new" Batman.

I love that what would become the Batcave was a part of the Underground Railroad that helped slaves escape from the pro-slavery south. Alfred in this movie is most likely referring to Solomon, Bruce's 4th great-grandfather in the comics. In the comics (Shadow of the Bat #45), Solomon was a prominent judge who commissioned a young architect to reform most of Gotham. He built the Wayne Manor on top of the future Batcave to conceal the railroad and their abolitionist activities. His brother Joshua was later hunted down by bounty hunters for protecting one of the slaves-while wearing a cowboy hat, bandana, and cape, using the darkness to his advantage, and having a no-killing code, i.e. a cowboy Batman. It's as if being a superhero runs in the family.

My first Batman was the old 60's Adam West version on TV growing up in the 80's. The first film Batman of mine was Michael Keaton and honestly, he's still my favorite, although Christian Bale in THIS film is a very close second. His Batman voice in this one is perfect, it got iffy in the next 2 :/ I also love that they started off this trilogy with the Scarecrow (Dr. Jonathon Crane) as the villain, because he's also another BIG BAD in the comics, famous for using his insanity-inducing fear toxins to really fuck with Batman's head more than once.

It's almost anomalous when you encounter someone who has no idea that Bruce Wayne's parents get murdered when he's a child. Aside from dressing like a bat and fighting crime, it's probably the most well-known aspect of the character because it has been depicted countless times in nearly every form of media, so much that it's a relief when they DON'T show Thomas and Martha Wayne getting shot yet again. It's also funny when she says, "Is this where he gets bit by a bat and becomes Batman?" without a hint of sarcastic humor, as if it's a given that every superhero is just like Spider-Man and obtains their powers the same way.

Hiya Nick, I lol hate to admit but I've seen every Batman movie that's come out, even the cheesy ones. I was quite surprised when Michael Keaton became the 1st big movie Batman, but he pulled it off in his own way. Though I do prefer this one out of most all of the Batman movies. And even though he wasn't in a stand alone Batman film, Ben Affleck made a good older Batman. This movie just had tons of star power from a few OG's like- Michael Caine, Rutger Hauer (he was in Blade Runner), Morgan Freeman, Tom Wilkinson (who's from the UK btw), Gary Oldman and Liam Neeson. And I'm fairly certain the C in Cillian's name is pronounced like a- K. Where it's Killian. Ken Watanabe - same guy who was in the Tom Cruise movie- The Last Samurai, and funny thing- Katie Holmes is a former- Mrs.Tom Cruise. The little blond ( strange looking) boy in this is the same actor who later plays the evil- Joffery in GOTs. Quite a few UK/ Irish actors in this movie lol. Night night!

I think these movies are good but Nolan is overrated (yes I said it) because he basically took the best part of the best Batman comics (Dark Night Returns, The Long Halloween) and used them for his scripts, granted not adapted completely but he really owes a lot to writers Jeff Loeb and Frank Miller
@richieclean
@richieclean 2 года назад
Why is that evidence of him being overrated? Taking inspiration from the best Batman comics is exactly what one *should* do when writing a cinematic version of the character, no? It's not like Nolan is receiving credit for creating the character or writing those specific Comic books, is it? When he and David Goyer wrote the script, their goal wasn't to be 100% faithful to the comic books, but to come up with their own, more grounded and believable interpretation of them. They made no secret of that. I'm not suggesting that a case can't be made for Nolan being overrated, but I think your reasoning is flawed here.
@Nexusofgeek
@Nexusofgeek 2 года назад
@@richieclean what I am saying is they are getting too much credit from people who don't even know most of the best beats were adapted from these sources.
@richieclean
@richieclean 2 года назад
@@Nexusofgeek are they though? It's undoubtedly true that the majority of the audience is going to be unfamiliar with which specific story beats have been lifted from the source material, but it's equally true to say that the audience is well aware that these films are adaptations of the Comic books, rather than original works. If someone wants to dig a little deeper and familiarise themselves with exactly which comics provided which specific aspects of the story, that's up to them, but *not* doing that doesn't falsely attribute credit to Nolan for coming up with them. Nolan gets praise for his abilities as a screenwriter and director, whether you think he's overrated in that respect is a different conversation altogether.

@@richieclean they have a visceral and maybe subconscious positive response to them, they don't have to know the source to appreciate the end result, what I am trying to convey is that Nolan owes a lot to Frank Miller et al, without a good story foundation you don't have a good movie

@@Nexusofgeek of course Nolan owes a lot to Frank Miller et al. In interviews etc Nolan made no secret of which Comic books he and David Goyer drew inspiration from when writing the screenplay(s). Just as Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and Phillipa Boyens all owe a lot to JRR Tolkien for the success of their Lord of the Rings trilogy, but saying that doesn't detract from their achievement in adapting the (presumed unfilmable) books to the screen, and no one is under any illusion about who is responsible for creating that story in the first place. I just don't understand how that constitutes evidence that Christopher Nolan is overrated (ie: that there is a consensus of opinion that holds him in higher esteem than he deserves)

So no end of video unless I'm a patron of the art of talking during a movie? OK. I LOVE reaction videos, but not linking or paying..Good first half, thank you, probably would have enjoyed the second half

All you said is hundred percent true but with all those flaws, the acting, the story and the writing made this trilogy what it is today.

@@iamdeathiamentropyiamdarks3517 yea straight garbage, I will admit good for the time but looking back and trust me I have multiple times it's really a trash trilogy but people have a nostalgia thing with it and I understand that but that doesn't mean it's the good

Does the line "sacrificed sure footing for a killing stroke" make sense? Surely if they were actually fighting he would have killed Ra's and therefore wouldn't have to worry about Ra's breaking the ice below his feet? What am I missing?

Why ya’ll watching with subtitles. It draws your eyes toward the subtitles before what’s actually happening.

Subtitles can help massively for those viewers who are hard of hearing or when the actors mumble their lines and aren't very clear...

Jeez, I can’t imagine watching this without subtitles, I wouldn’t be able to understand half of the quieter lines. Different people have different needs.
