We will have to see. And regardless wether they are on top i think hoyo isnt that good. I think they are where they are just cause the audience is built in and they have had no real competition. A lot of people might be itching to jump ship after the 3 wish bullshit hoyo pulled.

I really find it funny that the communities made sure that they boycotted Genshin to make Hoyo listen to them, then we got Genshin's sales lowering down, only for HSR making a huge leap in sales, saving Genshin's ass LMFAO

@@RaginCanadian-gx2zl I think you are heavily overestimating the amount of people truly angry at that. 95 percent of casual players - aka most of Genshin's fanbase - are either a) used to it or b) don't give enough of a fuck to actually care. As for WW, sorry, but it really doesn't have anything going for it that might make it surpass Genshin, beyond the weapon banner (and even then, that one benefit is already present in HSR, the other Mihoyo big moneymaker). The artifact system appears to be equally as, if not more, grindy (with the added minus that the artifacts are farmed in the open world, and not in domains, making it harder for anyone to find a particular artifact/set). Their combat, though appealing to hardcore gamers, is also a lot more difficult than Genshin's - which makes most of its cash from casual players and whales. And also, they apparently have *even more* substats and talent/skill trees than even HSR (which, in and off itself, is already notoriously confusing for a casual player). As far as characters and design goes, it also (though marginally more appealing to me, since I like the futuristic aesthetic) lacks that fantastical "get-away-from-the-world" whimsy that Genshin has in spades, with the designs (though cool) also seeming more generic and bland. The story also seems to be very generic, dime-a-dozen post-apocalypse chosen one crap (and yes, you can argue Genshin started out the same way, and I'll even agree with you - but what set Genshin apart was the medieval aesthetic, the fact that the world has not been ruined and grayed by the apocalypse). I think that WW will not be DOA and may even be better than for example ToF in the long run (especially since the game devs are apparently really responsive to player feedback) but thinking that it might surpass Genshin is frankly, not a very realistic expectation. Sure, a bunch of hardcore players may jump ship, but in order to truly become a Genshin Killer Wuthering also needs to attract that casual one-login-a-day audience...which I don't see them doing in the short or long run.

Same. As someone who played genshin, i was pretty disappointed with star rail. The exploration of the world, which is amazing in genshin, is really basic and lacking. Combat is meh, and while it's harder to make good turn based combat i thought maybe they know what they're doing. Guess not really. If anything, the game's success is probably because it's less challenging and still has quality waifus. The honkai and genshin player base also must have helped.

Really makes me wonder what happened. The trailers they showed were such high quality in visuals and animations that rivaled even Hoyo games. I was looking forward to global release but now that probably wont even happen.

@@pontoancora Tof is a completely different genre: Its a MMO. Not a good one at that. Difference is, that your game has to be built around having a lot of people being at the same time at the same space in the game. This hugely limits, what you can do with your combat system or even simple stuff like movement, or risk having a huge glitches and errors (which Tof had). Singleplayer games even with online functionality can be way "snappier" and responsive, with what you do and how exactly everything like hitboxes are calculated and the server not completely freaking out, because at 100ms base ping (sadly normal for many mmo) The difference of getting hit or dodging is huge. For instance League becomes outright unplayable if you have 100+ ping. (Or you play Sona or Yuumi)

@Ugotsomemilk tof wasn't even the first, it's just the famous game that people used this same argument. The point is that games came and go, and hoyo is still on top.

@@pontoancora because their character design is peak and they were really lucky with the release of Genshin during Covid. The real problem is, if they have no real competition in a certain Genre (single player open world action rpg) They can do fuckall and still get millions, because the alternative is not to play. Real competition would force Hoyo to improve Genshin regarding the content and endgame, that is delivered. Star Rail has real competition and it shows with all the QoL and content updates its getting.

@Ugotsomemilk genshin has competition, at least there are tentatives. But genshin is much better than the options. As I said, I heard arguments like yours for 3 years, for different games. Every new game is the game that will be a competition to genshin...

The name comes from "gachapon", a japanese gambling game where you put coins to try dropping wished items. So basically these mobile gacha games revolve around "summoning" playable heroes with resources that you either get by playing or paying, those heroes being usually rated from common to very rare "from 3 to 6 stars or from R to SSR... for example" So you try dropping the heroes you wish to play in order to build a team from the many heroes available, then try to upgrade them with the right gear and items... Some gacha games are generous in free to play while still having an engaging and challenging gameplay, while others can be a pain in the ass pushing you to absolutely pay in order to progress in the game... Personally my favorites so far are Honkai Star Rail and Epic Seven, they are both very well built and solid in their own way, and i've tried a bunch of gachas to compare. I can also give a special mention to Reverse 1999, Brown Dust 2 and Path To Nowhere that are pretty decent honestly, but the 2 above have something that makes you always come back, it's hard to describe until you play xD

Always did since launch minus a few dead months. It also cost less to develop therefore factoring in the cost, HSR has always been much more profitable overall.

@@Christin-Eleven not really. It was just this month. They were behind the last 4 months before, and both games got almost the same as average in 2023 ( genshin got first by a little margin even considering the number of months.)

@@dnaseb9214 I meant ToF's story. It's universally disliked and I agree with the sentiment. Anyway, ToF's designs aren't original and they're struggling so they had to do a collab iirc. I dislike Genshin bc of the community, but I'm not delusional enough to say ToF is better when it loses in all most if not all aspects. Soundtrack, reception, replayability, longevity and marketability just to name a few. No bigtime streamer has stuck to ToF because it isn't solid enough to be a great gacha game. Even some turn based gachas are better than ToF xD

@@fluffyrinsu4879 TOF wins in all gameplay aspects over Genshin. better combat with far more combos and abilities than basic atk/strong atk/e/ultimate of genshin. in tof you have atk/strong atk/dash atk/jump atk/air atk/e/ultimate. some weapons even have different modes with different abilities and gameplay styles The relics makes it more fun to navigate the world. sprint is infinite, gliding is infinite, glide throws you into the air. mounts make it faster to travel, you can swim and fly using relics you have races with mounts, collabs with Evangelion and others, better and far superior character design TOF is legit objectivly better from a gameplay perspective. its only downside is not have a large cuuumer audience like genshin
