You guys always seem to cover topics and people that are always personally relevant to me. You guys are quite literally building a how-to-RU-vid, RU-vid channel catalog of videos.
I actually never considered them as "a content house" but more like a group of content creator friends who like to hang out with each other and work towards the same goal together (also could be because I watched all of their videos separately before ur mom's house is a thing). I don't think they ever considered taking advantage of each other since the beginning as a money maker, or even have a strong business strategy behind, which makes them so unique as a group and which will also last longer than any other content house.
The creators of ur mom's house are a fantastic & wholesome group of people and it really seems like they want to stay together because they appreciate each other's friendship. I hope they go a long way and thank you for covering their story! 😊
I was one of the rare ones that got introduced to the rest of the roommates from Annemarie’s videos. i definitely think that Annemarie values authenticity more so than maybe Kelly and ashley do. Almost every single one of Annemarie’s videos is a new experience in terms of creativity. She deserves the entire world and its sad that she’s been on youtube the longest with the least growth.
Sometimes i think number of following isnt necessarily a good indicator of someones value esp with people like Annemarie because her style and morals etc is so different to the majority of cc's. This part of her life forsure made her more visible to people that found a connection to it too and shes only going to continue to grow from here. So from that im still proud of her and am excited to see her become the person she wants to be.
wathing again after what happened now, the breakdown is smart and pointed out the problems they might have early on, and it turned out to be true. So sad to see them not work out, but I believe they have made a name for themself in the world of RU-vid and all other creators will take as a lesson and build upon further for future content houses...
Was hoping you’d mentioned Luke and how much his channel popped off after staying with these guys for a month. He truly deserved it, great editing, great content.
I follow all 4 of them and honestly they seem the most genuine of actually being friends while other houses are just creators put together and forced to get along with each other
Elliot, Annemarie, Kelly and Ashley are next level intelligent. They know exactly how to capitalize on the content house growth. They will be the model that others look to to learn how to do it. Future content houses will learn so much from the success of these guys. Excited for what's to come. Growth will be exponential.
I just watched this after coming from Ur mon's house podcast episode with Annemarie leaving, I didn't expect this or did I know creator houses don't last. It's interesting how you both dissected how these creators have gone through creating content.
I think why Your Moms House works so well is because they are genuinely friends first, business partners second. Too many content houses work the other way around.
Yeah any successful group e.g. sidemen or even just online groups is that they have to be friends first and they have to get together not to have a successful business but because they like making content together
I think despite her leaving they all support her because like they said theyre friends first and Annemarie is just following her path. And i think Ur Moms House def helped her in certain ways to find that.
agreed and even though AM is leaving, I think a big difference is how mature they were with the announcement and the way they went about it. They were all very mature and cordial. They didn't give any opportunity for big crazy rumors or single anyone out or create a bunch of drama around it. Even if there is drama, they are keeping it private and not using it for views or to bash anyone and that is very respectable.
Except from the great chemistry they have among them, they already have grown a lot independently first before they get together as a content house. They know themselves as a solo creator that they didn't have to find their 'image' or character when they started together. Love this group of creators ♥️
I feel like they are at the point where you are in your second year of uni and you move in to a house with a bunch of great friends, your having fun, you are partying and you help each other with work sometimes and its a pretty awesome experience.
I think the only other house comparable was the Sidemen houses, they managed to both work and live together very successfully building one of the most successful youtube groups. Even when they moved out it was never because it crashed and burned it was because they grew up.
so crazy how I happened upon each creator individually at different years in my life then watched them come together. And now I see multiple channels like yours, making videos on them. It's amazing. They really out here growing!!
As someone who has followed Elliot since his first video that blew up on a day in the life at Vanderbilt because I started college the next year I have really enjoyed and followed them as they showed appeared in eachother's videos. really think they have something amazing and genuine going together and have loved every single video from each of them. Even from the Cali house that Elliot and Kelly were in together along with Jimmy and other creators they have such a good relationship where they want to see each other succeed and just enjoy their company! Enjoyed the video and insight you guys always bring to creators but this one was special!
It's a lot like a streamer house, and streamer collectives (like OfflineTV) All the streamers benefit from creatives hanging out together. The unique aspect is how the storylines of their videos sync up with each other so you can see the perspectives. That's a really neat idea
you guys have definitely called it... there's something stirring in that house right now. I feel like the podcast, Kelly/Ashley's relationship, and Annemarie's age difference, are all contributing to a wobble in this dynamic. As individuals, they were succeeding but as they've combined in many ways - this co-working system has started to crumble and highlight the differences that once made them so complimentary. It's a shame because now we see a divide. Annemarie isn't in Kelly/Ashley's videos and vice versa. Now it feels icky... mentions of 'trouble in the house' and 'roommate dynamics' would be fine - if they addressed it outright on camera. But by leaving it out of the narrative, it's leaving us wondering and filling in the gaps.
it really doesn’t seem that serious to me. they’re just human. sometimes you get overwhelmed from being around other people that have so much going on and i always interpret their comments like that. it’s not always going to be easy but they seem to be getting along just fine. plus annemarie’s ‘age gap’ isn’t even that significant to really be much of a problem?
@@gisel00 maybe you’re right! I hope it’s not that serious. It just feels like it’s been going on for a while now and I hope they sort it out. And I want to clarify that by Annemarie’s ‘age gap’ I’m talking about how people in their early 20s and people in their late 20s are living vastly different lives. You just change SO much in your 20s, 26 and 22 are such different periods of your life. You have more in common with a 35 year old at 26. Do you know what I mean?
@@verahg yah no tons of people saw this coming, it wasn’t coincidences or gossip something happened and now she’s out. it’s gonna be different with only 3 roommates for sure
Now you guys have me even more intrigued about the Sidemen episode. When it finally drops that is. They did basically this 10 years ago. Living together, creating content together, and then eventually creating the SIDEMEN with everyone being equal parts owners.
I think the interesting part about this is the rarity of it working. With the Sidemen back then there wasn't quite as much infrastructure so it was just the thing to do. But don't let this minimize the fact that they did indeed do this co-working style of content house early and pivoted successfully as they grew older and into different stages of life/success.
This is really getting me interested in the Sidemen episode, mostly because of the bit on Content House Models + Schedules. It does make sense to consider the Sidemen as _not_ a Content House, given that there was never a point in time where they all lived together (just most of them at one point), and their org has never really needed a 'House' to function. The schedules are also interesting, because we know for a fact that sidemen videos are scheduled and planned out at least a month in advance (the more complex ones anyway).
Early!! I have to say that you’ve both brought so much knowledge to the creator space. I for one am extremely grateful to have found your channel and like many I presume, I’ve binged every single video you’ve ever made! Thank you!
I know you guys don't do much in gaming, but have you considered talking to the people at Hermitcraft? It's basically a content house, but in Minecraft. They are constantly on trending, both for gaming and normal trending.
Initially I was drawn to the idea of a Colin and Samir House, but in the absence of that existing, how about a Colin and Samir Go On Holiday Special? You guys have been grinding so hard and putting out such insane content that I would hate for you guys to burn out. You deserve a holiday and if you wanted to you could even vlog it on your 'own' channels? Just spitballing :) Love the show!
I’m so glad someone in made a video about them in a different perspective. A point of view outside the content creator house & not the together with the roomates.
Oof. This aged poorly. I was always skeptical of them. I liked their interactions and friendships but when your content centers solely around IRL stuff, it creates a constant pressure and the need to capture everything on cam. It's personal and professional. With other CCs, they have games (valo, minecraft etc) or a niche interest to play off of. For them, it's purely their IRL interactions, so it's bound to blur and frustrate the boundaries and dynamics between each other.
Kelly and Ashley kinda brought the downfall of this group once they started dating because they just started making content with themselves about themselves. That's not how a group works guys. An example I can think of is offlinetv with Lily and Michael. It's not like they just stopped doing content with the group whereas Kelly and Ashley did just that.
Okay, so yes, this content house does seem like it will work. Particularly with the sustainability part of their house model. Here's my question: For people that may want to emulate this, do you think that this method can transition from one niche to another? Say for instance using a lifestyle creator's method in the camera review and tech niche??? or is that stupid?
@@fattahrambe I thinks big part of what makes them interesting is their personality snd people want to see more of it. Since they are all lifestyle creators you get to see their lives from different angles which wouldn’t really work as well with other categories
I think so - their USP is that they aren't doing this for money or clout, it seems. As long as you're approaching anything from a more wholesome, down-to-earth way then you're way more likely to succeed in the long term.
They could easily end up doing tech review. I.e. cameras, editing and anything related to making their vlogs and content. But I feel like if they did anything really too techy it wouldn’t be in their market and would lose viewers. People wanna see their personalities and them in the context of lifestyle/video making
They remind me of O2L. I don't know if they would have branded themselves as a content house because they weren't a thing back then, but now we can look back and see it as one. They were a group of friends with a schedule of posting, a unified channel, and big group activities along with daily/weekly vlogs.
I feel like this whole thing it's gonna end up with Ashley and Kellyliving together just the two of them, idk if Elliot would move out or them, but the dynamic would always be off if they don't, just imo.
Not gonna lie, I watched their content since like early November, I gotta say it has been great to watch them from each other's perspective. But I don't know exactly maybe i have changed in the last couple of weeks but I kind of stopped watching them because they kind of became boring and similar content that they have done before. Maybe problem is with me, I watched their every single videos and get to know them virtually and at some point I kind of know what their video is going to be like and lost interest 🤔. Anyhow, I am still greatful for entertainment I enjoyed before.
I think it has to do w personal preferences! Which is totally I fine. I am the opposite when it comes to watching yt vids I like to watch the similar content and videos
Same. I haven’t been watching for a while but was super interested at the beginning as what they were doing felt like a refreshing and unique take on “content houses”. It felt like a nice blend of vlogging and reality TV. My interest has waned a little bit as there content has become predictable
I own a traditional business with a traditional business model and I still watch all Colin & Samir videos to keep my mind fresh on new trends and thinking creatively like RU-vid creators are so good at. It is so helpful to hear how creators are increasing engagement and solving problems. These concepts can 100% be taken and applied outside of RU-vid. Keep making great content!
one of the biggest things i love abt ur mom's house is that they aren't as much of a content house as they are a bunch of friends rooming together and making videos together. they genuinely are making content they care abt and they value each other's input. the way they handled annemarie leaving wasn't like a big dramatic thing. it was just a roommate making the decision to move somewhere else to find themselves, and their other roommates respecting that decision. there wasn't bad blood, and they didn't draw it out in a clout-chasing way.
didn’t know this house existed, i know about elliot. this is very interesting, love the authenticity of this house, it feels really raw and really real
I would love to see a podcast/consult of colin and samir brainstorming business model for revenue share of your mom's house as they actually want to have that conversation.
16:54 - working and living together. I just remember the ORIGINAL content house: FreddieW. Remember, Freddie, Brandon, Sam, and Niko, all worked and lived out of that loft/warehouse when they came out to Los Angeles. Those 4 and a bunch of other folks, Jimmy Wong, The Pwnisher (Clint), Wren, and a few others all lived out of that loft for a while. A lot is still unknown about what really happened between BrandonJLA and Freddie as FreddieW and FreddieW2 separated and after all the years FreddieW became RocketJump and Freddiew2 became BrandonJLA and now is StressLevel0 and is a leader in VR Game/Tech development with BoneWorks and now BoneLabs. Sam and Niko is still crushing it with Corridor Digital and all their various ventures. Another OG content house: Epic Meal Time.
I wouldn’t say content house when they don’t live together, they just do content together. They used to live together but as you might know, that’s not the case anymore.
I've been waiting for this video, i love all 4 of them, and i cant wait to see them grow even more :) I love how they are open abt the fact that its not all sunshine and rainbows, and that living with roomates and having cameras almost 24/7 isnt at all easy
You saying that content houses are not sustainable was totally right because Annemarie just left the house and there seems to be beef between Ashley & Kelly and Annemarie...
Yeah you can tell she is fine with Elliot but the other 2 not so much. It honestly ruined the dynamic when everyone started dating. So Annemarie was the odd one out.
@@reallyadawn4869 yeah that's a good angle. My friend complained about her roommate all semester and it was over petty small things, they ultimately decided not to re-new their housing contract too. Kelly is immature and you got the part that he complained to Ashley seemingly right. When it all started Ashley and Annemarie were fine with each other and now its the complete opposite. We don't know much but something happened or a lot of small things happened. That then caused the Kelly and Ashley against Annemarie dynamic. Elliot also doesn't seem very involved and is always around nik. So Annemarie was really alone. In general, they kinda all split apart and Elliot while nice and giving everyone an equal chance, just isn't involved and not really interested in making the house work. He held the group together and was everyone's connection to each other.
@@user-ei9js9ub4t I think there has to be something more serious though. Assuming she signed a 1 year lease, and other business paper work for the podcast/content house, and then to break it...?
A story about faze’s original content house would be interesting. As far as I’m aware, they were the first creators to do it, and as someone who hasn’t watched faze in years it would be interesting to see the different paths they’re on.
Idk why people call them a “wholesome” group when a lot of their videos in NY consist of harassing strangers and filming them without their consent even when people ask if they’re being filmed they lie about it. Kelly in particular is notorious for harassing women and making them uncomfortable, he literally sees himself as some harmless dude but the women he’s a creepy guy bothering them.
this is literally the dream i literally have no youtube friends and feel like it would be so motivating! I like how we always get to see their perceptives!
