I Used my masterball on zapdos in gen 1. I Wanted to fight mewtwo. Hell insued.

Then gen 6 came along and Mewtwo got not one but TWO Mega Evolutions. Although honestly, the only thing that's more powerful and broken than gen 1 Amnesia Mewtwo is Mega Rayquaza from ORAS on, as it doesn't require holding a Mega Stone allowing it to hold an item while Mega Evolved, and Arceus help you if that item happens to be a Life Orb. Tiers? More like TEARS. It's such a broken Mon that it got banned from Ubers and created its own tier called "Anything Goes".

I remember there was once a Pokemon tournament back when they were promoting Stadium for N64. There was a level limit of 50 for all Pokemon, however, there was no restriction besides that one, so the final battle was between 2 guys using a team consisting on three Mewtwo they got via missigno glitch at lvl 50. True story, the officials didn't say anything and the guys got the prizes.

HUH! I didn't even know Ghost-type attacks had no effect on Psychic-types. Just be grateful the move 'Baton Pass' wasn't created until Gen 2...

The instruction book for Red/Blue/Yellow correctly said that Ghost moves didn't effect Psychic Types. Still, even if they did, the only true Ghost Type attack is Lick, which only has 20 power. I should've mentioned this in the video.

I've got something that's even stronger than Mewtwo in Gen 1: Spore Electrode! It's completely possible in gen 1 through glitches to put any move (even glitch moves) on any Pokemon. With Electrode being the fastest Pokemon in the game and the broken gen 1 sleep mechanics, unless you have grass types or another electrode, your pokemon will always be put to sleep before they can even move, guaranteeing Electrode free turns to deal damage and win.

In Gen 1 enemy Pokemon had an infinite amount of pp for moves so that make it even more powerful.

No Pokemon are very hard to capture in Red/Blue/Yellow (compared to the later games, at least) since even the rarest Pokemon easily stays in the ball. I didn't really have the right stuff for catching Mewtwo for this video, just the team I had used to beat the League with. Regardless, excluding the Safari Zone Pokemon, Mewtwo is probably the toughest Pokemon to catch back then. And I can't imagine how unlikely it would be to get Rayquaza like that, you were very lucky.

I just don't like that video much. It happened sometime early this year when I started feeling typecast as making only Sonic stuff, even though I make tons of other videos as well. I deeply regret doing so many Sonic challenges two years ago.

@PKFlash9 You got extremely lucky. I was referring to the original games anyway, I hadn't played Heart Gold/Soul Silver when I made this video.

I used Visual Boy Advance. As for the ROM, look around and you should find it, but I can't tell you where exactly. And I'm not going to be making any Strongest Characters Ever videos for the Sonic any time soon because, quite frankly, I'm fed up with that series. (Despite making the previous video being based on it)

It's not low for most Pokemon, but compared to Lugia and Groudon, etc, it's not too high either. But they have their own stats that are about the same.

Mewtwo is my favorite pokemon, as well as one of my favorite characters in all of fiction. It's what made me fall in love with psychic powers, and it made my own character who she is today. I miss when Mewtwo actually had a big presence in the franchise, nowadays though, it's just a pokemon that's simply there, but it's past is still not forgotten.

You can just get it back by giving a Heart Scale to the Move Tutor in Blackthorn City.

Hey, Mr. Whoisthisgit, just thought you should know something. Mewtwo can have more than 406 special. I've farmed many mewtwos way back in the day, and I noticed somewhere around halfway through my first box that they all had somewhat different max HP and special stats. If you don't believe me, and you have the patience, try it. I used to be addicted to finding what my next Mewtwo's stats were going to top out at.

Just a side note, back in Red/Blue, enemy Pokemon did not run out of PP, making Mewtwo's Recover that much more terrifying.

I stumbled upon your channel from your recent Creepy Bad Endings and Creepy Time Limits showing up in my recommended. I ended up going this far down the late night RU-vid rabbit hole and finding this gem (and I'm not being sarcastic.) It's almost been ten years since you made this, and almost five years since Mewtwo got pretty much the biggest nod of all time from Nintendo in his revival as Smash 4 DLC. This is probably my half-drunk ass spouting random nonsense at this point, but...shit, it was videos like this that were part of showing Nintendo that Mewtwo had the fanbase and the following to justify putting him back in Smash, and he was worth making new movies about, and the recent remastering of Mewtwo Strikes Back, and so many other things along the way. (I mean...a Mewtwo deck just won Worlds in the Pokemon TCG. AGAIN. They know what they're doing.) So even though this might not mean much, coming from some random in the middle of the night, and years late at that...thanks for making this. Seeing pro-Mewtwo stuff from way back in the day gives me happy vibes. Thanks for making my night and probably being one small but important part of Nintendo realizing how much they fucked up with the Brawl roster.

After watching this, I'm reminded of the last run I made before getting gold, turns out freezing Mewtwo is the best way to bring him down, it doesn't wear off in gen 1 (unless you hit him with a fire move but that may have been gen 2 or 3) freeze and toss ultra balls til the cows come home. May be able to sneak in confusion to help as well, it may wear off but it can't hit itself while frozen.

@Commanderoko Look, man, all I know is, I managed to catch Mewtwo in an Ultra Ball eventually, while I NEVER managed to catch Rayquaza without a Master Ball. Unless you count Pokemon Pinball RS, where all I'm missing is Lileep/Cradily (somehow)...

Back in the good ol' days when there were only 151 pokemon available... The most annoying thing when trying to catch it was recover. It takes ages to get it down to 1hp, and then it just uses recover and you have to start again...

@Commanderoko Allow me to rephrase that. "Mewtwo didn't have any strong moves to worry about." What I meant was HE didn't, the only ones he were weak to were the three weak bug moves in the video. And both Ray and Mewtwo have the same catch rate, so mathematically ... Mewtwo's still tougher because of the miss chance. And the lack of timer balls. But this isn't about 'how hard is he to catch' it's about 'how stong is he'. Mewtwo, before the special split, was stronger than Arceus.

To be fair, this was done in '09. Before Gens 5-8. Before even a thing called Mega Evolution put Mewtwo back on top as one of the strongest pokemon in the metagame. It still is to this day an absolute monster, even in its base form. But yeah, Gen 1 Mewtwo was BROKEN.

Sorry this is so late, but Night Shade was another Ghost-type attack, but it only did damage equal to the user's level, ignoring weaknesses and resistances. I'm not sure if this was replicated in the card game, but if it was, I wouldn't be surprised if it said to disregard weaknesses and resistances when doing the damage.

Actually, the tomes were nerfed from FE6 since in that game, they were basically weightless, but in exchance for the higher weighted tomes, the units got, or seemed to get better growths (sometimes Roy would get 2-3 level ups with no boost in stats).

13 years later but I'll still make the comment. A problem in gen 1 is that crit was based on speed, and crit attacks would ignore stats increased by buffs, so even if you amnesia the hell out of mewtwo, since he was so fast, he would end up criting half of his attacks, basically making all those Amnesias useless

And yet, since this video was released, Mewtwo has only become even more devastating! Access to Calm Mind, access to Aura Sphere, a new signature move, and even has 2 mega forms!

Mewtwo was even far more insane when you can reset his level to 0 in Pokemon blue, and relevel him back to level 100 for even far more insane stats. I mean, 442 HP, 280ish attack, 360 speed, 290 defence, and a whopping 500 special. You can reach 999 special in a fight, let alone have the ability to lower your foe's special with Psychic...

The Super Emeralds allow Sonic to turn into Hyper Sonic, but rings allow him to sustain the form. Look at the final bosses for Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Generations. The people helping you tell you you need to keep gathering rings. (I know he's in Super form, but I'm sure it would still be the same way.) So Hyper Sonic would need rings to sustain his form. It's not just a gameplay mechanic.

Never been too fond of Psychic types myself. Sure, they can be ridiculously powerful but Fire Pokemon have numerous moves that hit hard and have a snowball's chance in hell to burn foes- I unintentionally picked Charmander back in Red and I grew to love them immensely.

@HamsterZerg I think that it's weak. It's type weakness are too much common(for example, everyone has a flying-type)

When you mentioned Amnesia I said, "Ok WITG, you've convinced me. Mewtwo is evil." Faved.

They often touch stuff up in sequels, improving parts. With Pokemon they balanced the system nicely when Dark-steel types came into play. And make better Pokemon that could easily combat Mewtwo in later gens to.

I have to say, I loved playing as Mewtwo in Melee, I've just always loved his style. Besides, I don't do tournament stuff.

there one more thing you need to know that can make Mewtwo even MORE broken there is a glitch in the game that allows you to catch pkmn over lvl 100. mewtwo is one the the pkmn that can be caught this way. Its possible to get his lvl to 255! if you lvl him up via rare candies.

Psychic on ghost was a programing mistake. Proof: f you talk to people in the Saffron (?) gym, they'll tell you that ghost is super effective against psychic. So, the maker's little error gave Mewtwo an unfai boost XD

Great presentation, I loved it :) ... But yes the first 150(1) were the original. I like johto a little bit but the more they move the more they suck. And yes Mewtwo is God for me. But you should do a presentation about mew. I know it takes a bug in the game for catching it, but In my personal experience Mew is badass and too strong. Maybe he has better stats than Mewtwo. @PKFlash9 that's because in the newer games he is much easier to catch but try catching him in red or blue. It is HARD.

Only in first Gen? Mewtwo today can still make Arceus shudder in fear. Mewtwo still has a wide variety of moves and still have a massive Sp. Attack and very high Speed stat. Despite the nerfing, Mewtwo is still a major threat in game and in competitive play.

I accidentally used my Master ball on something else. Another legendary I think, and when battling Mewtwo I was down to my last pokeball ... and I caught him =D Also another most powerful character in gaming I think would be Fusion Dragon or Doom Dragon from the Golden sun games.

@senshi85 I remember trying not to use the master ball on mewtwo just to see if I can capture it. Took a hell of a time but I was able to do it then I reset the game and thew a master ball lol. If you can capture mewtwo you can capture anything lol.

Missingno. had a base 136 Attack. It also knew Gen 1's best (non-Hyper Beam) move, Sky Attack, from the moment it was caught. This move would also hit Mewtwo at its weakest point, Defense. On the other side of the scale, Missingno. had a Defense of 0, a Speed of 29, and a Special of 6. Good luck actually hitting Mewtwo with that.

Missingno up 256 of each of the vitamins and you can make TITANS. I know, it's ten vitamins per Pokemon, but this can add up: Ten of the same vitamin will give you 7.5 EV (I think per level), and if you start at level 2, that's a total of 735 points. This even means you actually can beat Mewtwo at his own game... right?

Even though the game lists its gender as unknown, I can't see Mewtwo as anything other than male. But we can't really be sure.

The only thing that makes this worse is that moves were made special or physical based on type, Ie: ALL fire moves are special, ALL Flying moves are physical.

I'm pretty sure its all one. Classic Sonic grows up into Modern Sonic. Also in Sonic Heroes I believe that was just Sonic sending his energy gained from the Chaos Emeralds to Tails and Knuckle (I think that's why the balls are golden). If they had gotten their power from the chaos emeralds directly then I'm sure they would have turned into their Super Forms.

he he this is so true. I remember thinking man nothing beats the psychic types alakazam and mewtwo were the aces in your team. When I first played gold lol my alakazam got a rude awakening by dark moves particularly bite! Since a lot of non dark pokemon had bite. Back then when I was in trouble i'd just bring out alakazam to mop the floor with whoever now I had to be careful lol. I'm glad they nerfed it though. They really made ghost and bug types pitiful and now they're both very good.

Mewtwo is still pure beast though, especially with the split of physical and special attack.

It took me 4 hours took catch Mewtwo in an Ultra Ball. Charizard was probably my best bet in a fight with Mewtwo, he was lv 88. -_- I didn't know about it until a friend told me, so all my pokemon were in the 80s by then.

I can't believe it. Mewtwo made the list. The fanboy in me cheered - I've been a fan of Mewtwo (and Psychic types in general) since Gen 1. Nerfings and balancings can come and go, but I'll always stick with Psychics, for however long I play Pokémon, especially Mewtwo. And Dark may be Mewtwo's nemesis these days, but he -does- have a counter - Aura Sphere! (Okay, okay, fanboy shutting up now... @_@)

Oh yeah just for whoisthisgit's benefit. In Gen1 opposing pokemon apparantly have infinite PP, meaning Mewtwo should be able to use Recover an infinite amount of times until you catch it.
