*IMPORTANT READ BEFORE INSTALLING* Here’s official info from BorisFX if you have a red X. 1) BCC + Looks is the only FREE effect if someone chose to install ALL the plugins. You can choose to install just the looks plugin. If you don’t choose this, you will see all of the continuum products in your library as well, which will require a payed license. 2) Looks will have a red X on it if the license is NOT activated, The user needs to take the serial number given in an email and paste it to activate or it's a trial. Hope that helps! Hey Fam! Lots of people saying they are seeing a red X. I’m working on finding the solution, and will post an update here in the comments!

If you delete the effect off the video clips from the video inspector it should clear out those errors. Or is it an actual error dialogue window?

Duuude this is absolutely insane, not only is your content incredible and something I've sorely missed this is finally something for FCPX i've found that truly elevates the program! I love FCPX to the core but it lacks features that I otherwise could do in adobe programs that I really miss out on, and this does a lot of that in one package! Hell yes!

Dylan, I have to say, I saw this effect on this year's nab 2022, and let me say, you did a better job than the person who presented the content; kudos to you. The effect crashed during the demonstration, and after several reboots, it still didn’t work 😬🫣. Glad the kinks were worked out. It’s an amazing product, and I look forward using it. Bro, may I ask how to do keying with Mocca? I seen comment with your explanation: “you can take an BCC+effect with Mocha and have it set to show the Matte/cutout in Final Cut Pro. So to be clear, you only get the “looks” for free. You gotta pay for mocha and all that other good stuff, and hey, that’s fair enough, this is some pretty industrial-strength software. I like this channel, but this really is an ad in a thin disguise, let’s be honest.

Mocha comes with the free plugin! And it's less of an ad in thin disguise, and more of an add in full exposure haha! It's really a powerful free plugin. The paid for stuff (continuum) is all the stuff I mention after 6:20. But everything before that is FREE!

Yes. There's a few ways to do it. One way is to use BCC + Composite in the full Continuum FCP suite. There is a video that shows the general technique in this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RU6t0e6s0Nw.html. With BCC + Looks you would have to change the Pixel Chooser settings to View the Mask /Matte and then use a native Final Cut Pro blend mode on a different clip to read that info to perform a cut out. A quick tip will be out on Boris FX shortly.

While the free version of mocha is not specifically designed for it. A great method is to use the mocha mask, then on the background, drag the contrast to 100 and the brightness to zero. Then use a luma key, and boom, background should be removed! I tested it out, and it works like a charm!

Hey Slijce! So while the the continuum plugin and free plugin aren't specifically designed for this there is a great workaround I have been using. I create my masks just like I normally would using Mocha. Then I change the exposure for the background layer to be completely black. I then add a luma key to the layer and remove the black using that. That actually does a great job of removing the background!

@@mediamech sorry there is trouble with the installation. Depending on how you chose to install BCC + Looks, you may have put all the plugins that ship with Continuum FCP. Every plugin except BCC + Looks that is in the BCC Film Style category would have a red X on it. Another issue could be that the serial number was not entered. Hey Cesar, you’ll need to put in the free activation license that comes in your email when you download the plugin, and you’ll be set! This is for the looks plugin. The other continuum plugins require a purchased license. You can uninstall the continuum plugins if you don’t want them in your effects browser, and just have the +looks plugin. Hope that helps!

It’s not designed for it. Buuuuuuut, if you do all the tracking, and make the background completely black by dragging the contrast all the way up, and dropping the brightness to zero. Then add a luma key, and take out the black.. it has some impressive results!

NEWB QUESTION: Not sure if I understand correctly, but with the Mocha tracker, is it possible to separate what was tracked from the rest of the video? Not a newb question at all! So that's a yes/no answer. The free version of Mocha provided with this plugin is not specifically designed to let you do that. I believe if you get Mocha pro, you can do that. BUUUUUUUUUT let's just say you add the mask, as shown in this video. You could theoretically drop the brightness all the way to zero on the background, and then apply a luma key and botta boom botta bing you have got a tracked roto. I actually was just playing around with that, and it works quite well!

Hey Vinnie! You might need the latest version of FCP. Some others mentioned this same issue, and once they updated it solved everything. Hope that helps!

Thank you for presenting this amazing free plugin. I successfully installed it and when I add it to a clip in my FCPx project and open the FX editor window the generic mountain preview image is not replaced with my clip. I can still choose a look and apply it, and my clip receives it in the FCP viewer perfectly and I can work with all the parameters but its clearly an issue that my clip can’t be seen instead of the mountain image, especially in the Mocha Mask section as I can not draw an mask around an image that I can’t see. Any ideas what might be going wrong? I sent a help request to Boris FX a week ago and they haven't replied. I am running FCPX 10.5 iMac 27 with catalina 10.15.7

Hey Jim! Sorry to hear that! I heard from some other users who experienced a similar issue, they needed to update FCP to the latest version, and that seemed to resolve the issue. Hoping that works for you! Very surprised they haven't gotten back to you, I feel like they generally have very good customer service. Might be worth checking spam.

@@TheFinalCutBro Thanks Dylan, I thought an update might be needed. The perilous world of updates! I actually updated the mac to big sur and an FCP update as well, that ended up killing some of my plugins and caused other issues so I ended up having to use a backup to get back to the wonderful Catalina and FCP 10.5 which solved the many issues that Big Sur created. At least I can apply the Look and play with parameters in the FCP control panel. Just have to forget about the Mocha masking, I have all that from Pixelfilmstudios and color grading via Cinema Grade as well as Color Finale. However there is something really nice and excellent about the BCC +Looks! Good luck with all your excellent work.

Kinda confused now! Mocha masking tracking plug in is for free? Which option should I clic on so I can download that free plug in? Probably a dumb questions but I got really confused. Sorry

Hey Andres! So there is a free version that comes with mocha masking and has 80+ looks! Then there is a second option you can download and pay for annually that has way more effects and presets as well! If you look in the description, the free one is the first link! Hope that helps!

My mocha mask is not tracking properly and I don't really understand why. I am trying to track the basic shape of a mechanical keyboard spinning around, but somehow the points don't follow its shape. I'm running the 10.6.8 version of Final cut pro. Can someone help me find a solution?

Looks great. But when I apply the effect to my clip, it says: PC matte clip: no source. I don't know what to do with it because when i select the clip i want to adjust it does not do anything and it just makes my clip go red with a strange symbol. Anyone knows how to fix this?
