Tops knows what they're doing obviously lol, I have a few with no complaints. Maybe you should be looking at them for your cheaper production dbk knife, they'll make your design as well as anyone else.
@@justafloridamanfromthe75thRR yes they do have a ton of designs but most are from people wanting something specific, and ya theyre more expensive but you get what you pay for and they're all American made which is worth a little extra in my book 👍
I have many choppers from Cold Steel and Condor but the best is Ka-Bar Parangatang and it has been for years, it is very reminiscent of Tops Storm Vector Seax which will be the next in my collection. Thanks Guys 😃
What video did I miss? I thought the Silky Nata was the winner of the best chopper. There needs to be a faceoff between the Silky Nata and Tops Storm Vector.
You guys are awesome. I bought one. All I do besides work is lift weights and read grim dark fantasy. It showed up unexpectedly because I ordered it drunk. I named it Thors Cock!
@@DutchBushcraftKnives Great vid boys. Bark River has made 10-12 "big choppers" that out chop this by FAR. I think for only 1095,this should be 80-100$ less cost. *Now I am thinking....DBK next knife : 12-14 inch blade, CPM 3v OR Your other tough steel, convex and 24-32 ounces :) Semper Fi Gunny **Did u really get stuck?
Them uploading it every Thursday is their consistency, you watching them yours. BTW bushcraft boys write me if you want to buy a custom Kailash Khukri 😎 Just watch advanced knife bro's scourge anniversary video!
9:39 I believe they call this a child-like sense of wonder... The music...the passion...the subtitles...the perfect example of good mental health...the inside jokes...the culture of their country...I just love the beautiful nuances of DBK videos. Even when these guys are in their seventies, they will still act and behave and have the same glowing energies as they do now. So naturally human. I love the Dutch disposition. I love you guys' humor and creativity. I love y'all's authenticity. You guys should make a feature length film. I'd put in on a go-fund-me for that. I'd tell all my friends. I could watch this all day. Love and respect from Fort Worth, Texas.
Well, actually the seax was an chopping-tool, that was used in war as well, but originally it was just a tool. It was often used for many small tasks too, like cutting, cooking -or killing. In my Opinion this is the ultimate kind of bushcraft tool.
@@justafloridamanfromthe75thRR Many Brokenback Seaxs are very close to the Bowie in blade design. The key differences are the guard, handle, tang, and the fact that the Bowie sometimes has the clip sharpened. Saying one is particularly better than another is really just a matter of personal taste since they are roughly the same kind of knife with very little difference in how the design performs. With the only real exception being thrusting. in that one regard, the Bowie is much better, but it's less to do with the blade shape, and more to do with the handle/guard design. Which, you can put a Bowie handle on a seax knife and get those same benefits, but it's also going to usually turn that seax into a Bowie by definition. That being said, most Bowie knives are made with significantly better steel than the historical Seax knives were, but the modern seax knives are made from the same stuff. So, that becomes a non-issue. As shown in this video. However, the modern idea of the Bowie knife was heavily influenced by British manufacturers. So, it's quite possible that the modern Bowie was influenced by the historical knives of England. Mainly being things like the Seax. Matt Easton of Schola Gladiatoria has done some great videos discussing the similarities, but so have many other historical arms RU-vidrs.
TOPS is in my top 3 favorite knife makers. Even though 1095 is an old simple steel, it's extremely tough and incredibly easy to sharpen. I love super steels with Z-Wear PM being my fave of the supers. Mainly cause it's even tougher than CPM 3V and performs better. That said, if I'm stuck lost in a forest somewhere, I would much prefer simple carbon steels like 1095, O1, or 80crv2. Those steels are more than any adequate for any bushcraft or survival/SERE situations anyone might find themselves in... if properly HT'ed. This chopper is def going with me on every outing after it arrives at my door tomorrow! Great and honest vid guys...
Can you imagine being the employee of a knife company, watching a DBK video and seeing a reaction to your knife like Maarten has at 9:44? It'd be like winning the Super Bowl.
We land in between 56-58 with 1095. Harder than 58 on 1095 starts to get too brittle. We also do a differential heat treatment, so the spine is softer. That explains the lack of sparks from a ferro rod.
@@TOPSKnivesofficial thanks for the reply. I did check the website for some additional information. Great job! Thanks for letting me know of the differential heat treatment.
The wood chop at 6:28 completely blew me away After seeing the pan test, I was like yup, I’m getting that. Do you guys consider the Storm Vector more of a machete or a chopper?
I love you guys but your knives are getting crazier and so expensive most could never buy. Tops is crazy priced for 1095. I really don't understand how knives cost over $250 with cheap materials. I think the whole knife industry is getting ridiculous. I'd rather go with a kukri got one for $40 They are priced great for what you get.
How do they justify a $200 price point for a heavy machete? Would I like to play with this? Yes. Would I ever buy one? Absolutely not, I'll stick with my hatchet for chopping.
I want to know from Dutch Bushcraft knives what is the best could it be on Topps vector to be the top steel eagle what is it? After everything you texted seeing what gets a 10 across the board
@@MrJackfriday Aluminum (which is what that frying pan was made out of ) isn't hard enough to cause edge chipping on a blade thats in the 57-60 Rockwell hardness.
Hey guys i have been a fan for years but you need to understand one thing. That edge not getting damage from batonning a pan is only due to geometry and can be done with any steel thick enough bte (40-50 thousands with a grind that is most likely 30 degrees per side + ( i know tops ). The truth is tops is a good brand but 1095 is soft and is not very tough either if you look at charts. Also i want people to understand the thicker the grind the easier and less work it is to make a knife. The easiest thing is take a bar of steel put a lil edge on it and it will be indestructible. I guess for some purposes its ok but its not something to be proud off if anything its a lot less work for the same money.
There were likely alot of people like Myself who saw this on the release and thought it was really cool looking, great name, great heritage, but though maybe it was a gimmick. This disproved ANY doubts about this sword-axe. It's real life Viking shit.
I’m surprised that you were surprised by this knife. Tops are simply awesome. 1095 is not a cheap steel when it’s American quality and heat treated by Tops. Why not try the superb Tops SXB which is my favourite knife of all time? The only drawback with Tops is the availability which is frustrating for me as they are the brand that I collect. I don’t mind the high price as hand made quality like this does not come cheap and you get what you pay for. Buy once cry once is something that my late dad taught me as he always bought the best tools that he could afford and would not buy Chinese rubbish.
Im going to buy this Storm Vector bastard !! I've seen this knife before, I thought it was a little expensive for 1095 steel and I passed it up but after watching this video I definietly want one !! I Love your videos you guys are the best !!
Love that you're reviewing Tops knives lately! The Steel Eagle started it all I'd love to see you guys do that one. The M4X Punisher💀 is a wild one that I would love to see DBK run through the paces too.
My Brakimo just gave me stitches after getting done stropping it...I love my Tops Brakimo but it bit me ...bad Brakimo ...bad ! It's definitely sharp now. ..and it was my fault , made a rookie mistake 🤤 Respect your blades boys, respect your blades.
it cuts so good after strapping because it is longer, and u have alot of surface ton blade to slice it fast, while on short knife you slice less when trying to cut. Thats the whole magic, just try to cut paper without using whole blade cutting surface but only about 5 inch.
I would love to see a full comparison between this and the Skrama. It seems the Skrama doesn't chop as well and I'm going to assume the 150 gram difference in weight from the extra 2.15mm thickness has a lot to do with that. The finer edge near the handle seems like it should be good for feathersticking (I don't remember the results in your Skrama video).
I'll stick with the Skrama, price difference means a lot for us paupers, I have just watched cooking with Skrama by VARUSTELEKA that was funny, even the website is funny, I want the Swedish commando underpants but they are always out of stock
@@DutchBushcraftKnives When it really comes down to a survival situation the less energy you expend on chopping the better off you will be, but in a normal situation that extra money is a months worth of food or a weekend of drunken debauchery
Gentlemen, another fine, fun and informative video! The portrayal of the Seax to the life of the Vikings and the Norse people was excellent, from a modern look to the past and I commend you for using this knife not only as a chopping tool which it was, but it was also used for cooking and taken into battle. Now whether you look at these as a big and practical knife or a small sword the fact is these were multipurpose blades designed to do a variety of tasks, which you expertly demonstrated!! Looking forward to next week, take care and stay well!!
Cool Video 👍 Thank U for the Info and the Links 👍 I'll buy it👍 Greetings from Austria Vienna ✌️ Would love to see U testing. following knives: Extrema Ratio Ontos ....,..................Giant Mamba ....................... Dobermann IV .........................Kreios Machete
You two are crazy in the best possible way and I love your enthusiasm for all our edged toys. This particular film has made me go out and by the Storm Vector as this was just the chopper I have been looking for so thanks for that ,I am looking forward to my next outing even more now .Keep up the good work guys.
And just like that, exactly one week after buying a mystery ranch unicorn 2.0 and a tops kukri, I needed another thing I didn't need lol. Fantastic test!!!!
There's a lot to make the Skrama great... Including the fact that it's indestructible and less than half the price of this admittedly beautiful chunk of steel, even with a nice leather sheath
The youth of today, our future leaders. You guys do realize you probably don’t have any tree hugger fans. Good videos though. You definitely find out how tough a blade is. Hey now, don’t be bad mouthing 1095 it’s a great steel for knives. I would rather have it than those fancy new “super steels”.
Yes, a very cool knife. However, it is not very practical if it sinks deep every time you chop and you have to yank it out every time. You want something that will get the job done, without it getting stuck in the wood.
Sorry guys, but until you touch Zombie Tools Reaver Cleaver, or it's smaller brother the Rat Bastard, you will never have any idea what insane chopper is all about...
This is not a knife, it's a machete, so OFC ideal for chopping... but just for chopping. Good tool if you live in a rainforest. That pointy end is weird.
Aloha, It's a machete? Here in the tropics we have two schools on how to open coconuts. I prefer heavy square choppers over machete. There dozens of chp and mach models...and hand sickles to choose from.
@@VicToR37406 true, here no one care what brand we use, just have to get the jobs done, 😋 which is good, my wife won’t question how much I spent on my knives
YOU THINK PEOPLE AREN'T WATCHING YOU? YOU CHOP AND TWIST WITH ONE BLADE TO MAKE IT LOOK BETTER BUT YOU DON'T WTIST THE BLADES WITH THE OTHER ONES. WHAT EVER YOU 2 DO DON'T QOIT YOUR DAY JOB.
Yeah, i always carry them in my boots and one as a neck knife. I need a good toothpick cause i have loooong sharp teeth!!! It is amazing for a good scratching on an itchy back and can deliver burning face slaps to politicians.
I have a ka bar zombie swabbie knife and it's similar I'd like to see someone test it I've abused mine pretty hard and it's held up I've probably had it for 10 years
It takes a big man to admit that he is stuck in a leg lock and caught in his robe at the same time on a tree in the woods. It takes an even bigger man to stand there and just laugh in his face and film it. Now that's a buddy.
Given this heat treatment, I'd love to see you guys test one of the Architect Field Buddy knives from The Knife Connection. They DO have a V edge, but I've seen really complimentary reviews of their geometry. It's a knife I've considered, and if it could make you like 1095 on a knife, that would be good enough for me.
