Commenters are concerned about what happens to the water after it goes through the DPF. While you might think it just goes down the drain, it does not. The machine operates a closed-loop system so the water gets filtered, and used again. No soot or ash goes down the drain!

@@partsfortrucks I take it the filters go to the dump? Or is there some special law mandating elsewhere? The landfill is actually the safest place to put the majority of our waste. It's also the best place for non-recyclable plastics, if we can't burn them to generate electricity, as they're just a waste of time and resources to sort and transport from collection centers and waste containers.

If people are so concerned about the environment, why no make it easy to clean a dpf in place, almost like a yearly dpf clean service, where instead of blasting all the soot out inti the atmosphere during a regen, we can take the vehicle to a special plug a clean service center so it can be regenerated with water, then that water can be processed/filtered etc.
@ElaBellll
@ElaBellll 11 месяцев назад
well, its not really blasting it out into the atmosphere during a regen. What is happening is the high temperatures cause the soot to oxidize, turning it to gaseous compounds like CO2. The point of the DPF is to keep the fine particles out of the atmosphere, CO2 is much less harmful to humans than the soot particles, so that is the method taken.
@ferrumignis

Well, two things here... Firstly, under regenerative conditions, you are oxidizing most of the ash into gas, like CO2, so this is by no means comparable to releasing all the "bad stuff" back into the atmosphere. Secondly, the ash is most harmful when in suspension in the atmosphere, if disposed of properly, it will remain out of the atmosphere, where it can do far less harm (to living things lungs).

This is a video of a DPF (diesel particulate filter) being cleaned. Every diesel engine has one of these and it helps to remove the harmful exhaust from the air before it leaves your tailpipe. Overtime they build up with soot and ash and either need to be replaced, or cleaned. What you're seeing here is one being cleaned, we pump water and detergent though the filter to remove the buildup then let it dry before reinstalling on it on the truck. @hasturm1232 Год назад
@hasturm1232
@hasturm1232 Год назад

The holes that the gas pass through under normal operation are the same holes that the liquid is passing through during the cleaning process. The filter is made of a very fine material which is big enough to allow the passage of gas (and water) but not the soot that is generated during normal operation. The water/detergent mixture is pressurized going into the filter which allows for more liquid to pass through than one might think.

Are DPFs really that much of a problem? My first DPF car was a 2001 Peugeot 406 2.2 HDi. Didn't cause me any issues.

Quel filtro sembra grande.

Just imagine the hydrocarbons and emissions this facility and others produce on all levels? Does anyone really believe this offsets the diesel engine emissions? Think about what it took on all levels to create an entire industry to reduce emissions? What do people think it took to build the buildings, manufacture the steel, mine the rare materials distribute the equipment, planes trains trucks ships all run on diesel or jet fuel all from oil, do you really believe it works? You May reduce emissions directly out of the exhaust of the vehicles using it but the entire industry produces more emissions in return. So think about it there is no gain. Your just moving the emissions from one place to another people need to realize this.

You can do a similar job at home but takes longer but saves you$$$..distilled water must be used, wet vack, 5 gallon clean bucket..DONT USE ANY CHEMICALS!! the sensor will detect send trouble codes to COMPUTER..Egr and cooler should be done as well..yes they can be cleaned..If you do replace Egr, replace cooler as well ,clean pressure sensors and spray the Hell out of all electrical plugs with electrical cleaner, using bulb grease is a good idea on electrical clips..not to much..buy 2" heat shrink and put on all exposed wire connector for extra protection from 600-800 degrees that filter puts out..most of the problems that mechanics make an easy 3-7 grand up sale is usually burnt wire harness around nox sensor, turbo..This is the new norm, part of maintenance every 6month no longer than 1 year..if you listen to dealers and go 250-500k before you do this expect to do injectors, turbo air cooler .very possible as that's what dpf filter effects and circulates suit through all components.........

@partsfortrucks Even on government vehicles? Most of them don't use these emissions parts because they're actually unreliable and cause excess wear on vehicles. If EVs are the future, why hasn't Biden's convoy converted to them? They continue to use GAS-GUZZLING V8 Suburbans. Why not switch? Because they're UNRELIABLE.

Also look at what emissions are now needed do dispose of all this waste created by this emissions equipment. Where does it go what vehicles will it take to move the waste ? Most likely diesel powered vehicles truck ,trains, planes ships . All from fuel burning engines , that comes from oil Again your using fuel to try to reduce its own emissions come on people use your common sense brain

The water is in a closed-loop system, none of it goes down the drain. Instead, we filter the water between passes to pull all the containments out.

Thank you for your paitence, I had to confirm with our DPF team. The filter with the concentrated containments are sent to the landfill. The landfill is the best/safest way to dispose of the filter as the soot/ash cannot be recycled.

It's a Diesel Particulate filter (DPF) which is one of the stages in the after-treatment system which collects pollutants from the engine. The filters are reusable but they need to be cleaned first. This video is showing the cleaning which involves pumping water through the filter to dislodge and remove all the buildup.

As long as the filter is not damaged, cleaning is much more economical than purchasing. We'll take your filter to a cleanliness level that makes it 98% effective compared to a new filter. Plus, we do it for a fraction of the cost!

Unfortunately we can't just clean these out forever. The EPA 2027 mandates state that the manufacturer must now warranty these systems to 450,000 miles. Sounds awesome, right? Yeah, until you realize that adds an extra $40K or more to the cost of the truck, and all of that will get passed on to all of us, the consumers. Yay. Just what we need. More expensive trucking, in a time where money is devaluing faster than you can earn it. Meanwhile, you can run a two stroke diesel with no valves in your airplane. The EPA is out of control.

The water gets filtered and reused as part of its closed-loop system. When the water filter fill up, it is replaced and safely disposed of.
