Snowshoe EMTs response was simply incredible. Got to you quick, had the knowledge & training to properly (for lack of a better term) unfold you without chancing further harm. Ultimate respect the man who took charge & his competency & quick action. Absolutely blessing from God. You even had a doctor of strong faith in your corner affirm it. You're meant for great things sir & the best is yet to come.
This type of mountain biking is just fcking dumb. let me slam into telephone poles and rocks at full speed. Can we get a trail that has even more trees space even closer together? Yeah no thanks.
Mate, this was heavy viewing, so glad you're going to recover. As an event marshall & first aider, I wanted to thank you for posting this. The guy in the green cap & jacket is an absolute hero, I learned so much. Healing vibes dude.
I have had my fair share of run ins with slope/trail patrol (I should really know the limits to my talents better by now). Snowshoe had the best response team by far. Compassionate, knowledgeable, and fast responding. Praying for a healthy recovery, a prosperous retirement, and good fortune on your future endeavors.
I am so relived to see that you are going to be okay. Jack Moir let the word put that you were airlifted and we have all been so worried. You're a great guy please try and keep your spirits up.
Your sense of horror is palpable! As is your relief! Glad you’re ok!!!! Sorry this happened to you. Take a well earned bow, and enjoy the future.

Such professional work by rescue team. I'm surprised you did not mention them. They played huge part in your ability to walk again. Best of luck in recovery!
Disagree (with all respect). This was a poor response by those involved. Seems Dean was moved from that position without any initial critical observations or assessments. They start to lift him some 25 seconds after impact, and as Dean has put it, he had not feeling in back, limbs etc, not one person assessed him in a manner that was deserved in this situation. If it were spinal, they (may) have possibly made it worse. I only hope that lessons are learned from this.
That was a huge hit. So happy to see that you had experienced ski patrollers on scene within seconds. Most people wouldn't have known what to do to get you safely out of that gnarly position you ended up in.
Holy shite! So glad you dodged a bullet. Freakin brutal crash. Mad courage to watch it and then share the experience with us. I couldn’t even watch the second time and had to fast forward. So,glad you’ll recover. Heal fast, and may you go from strength to strength.
Have been thinking about you ever since I saw the end of Jacks (Moi Moi) last video saying you were air lifted out and to keep you in our thoughts. Scary shit man, glad to hear you're alright for the most part.
Dean, I hope for the best for you and that you will not have any significant long-lasting issues. I had a hard time watching that video of the crash. I actually developed the same issues as though I was the injured. Slightly nausea's, light headed and sweating. I want also give a shout out to the patrollers/first responders for their quick decisive professional response.
Best possible outcome for the worst nightmare scenario. I used to race amateur DH at Snowshoe regularly from 03-08 and without fail, every, single, race, at least one person would get airlifted out with a spinal injury blasting through those rock gardens and getting it wrong. Every year: "it's not that steep, it's tame, it's the east coast..." and every year someone would end up in a wheelchair. So relieved for Dean. Speedy recovery, mate.
So relieved that you are improving quickly. Hats off to the emergency medical crew for the way they handled it and kudo's to you for sharing this with everyone. It's not an easy time. Heal up and all the best in your retirement. I'm certain you will be a force to be reckoned with in the sport going forward.
Ohhh Donny that’s so scary man I’m so glad you’re going too be ok, I bloody cried for you mate so close to the end of elite DH thankyou for everything and being so open and honest through it all. Hope recovery goes well as always you do us aussies proud love you mate. Thankyou medics for helping our man!!!
Jesus... I'm so sorry you went through that. It was horrifying to watch, I can't imagine what it was like to experience. I'm glad there was a good medical crew to attend right after the crash... realized the severity immediately, stabilized the neck, got you outta there safely. Quick recovery, mate.
Dude, I really like the way they put you on your back. No rushing, jolting or twisting at a critical moment. I’m surprised you were the only rider to do that over the past few days. Everyone was rolling the dice through there.
Man, what a horrible experience that must have been immediately after the crash! 😞 I'm really sorry you had to go through this but also happy for you that you got so lucky nothing broke or tore! I'm wishing you a full and speedy recovery so you can attack the next chapter of your life! 👊 Keep us posted on your recovery.
Hope all goes well mate, heel well and stay positive. I know thats easy for me to say but positivity will see you shred'n trails again before you know it.
Wow, this was scary. Thanks for sharing it all though. Was good to start it off that you‘re ok(ish) and then seeing the whole crash. The other way around would have been brutal to watch. Hope for a full and speedy recovery mate!
Thanks for sharing all this. As a concerned fan it's great to get the insight and know that our man although seriously injured is progressing. Best wishes for a full recovery.
Man all the best to you. I am so happy that you are recovering. That conversation with the doctor was very interesting to me. About 15 years ago I was skiing, at Snowshoe of all places, and on my “last run of the day” I was feeling overconfident and plunged down a short but steep little pitch, got too far forward, did a somersault and landed right on the back of my head and heard and felt a nice “crack!” I thought that was it. I laid on my back and just wiggled and moved everything I could. When the Dr talked to you about stretching the cord it really hit home. Like, too much bend and it could snap, it’s not just about “breaking” your neck. Fortunately everything felt ok, just really sore and I skied the rest of the way down and got on the lift and went and had a drink. And that was that.
Oh man Donny. So glad you are doing ok and worse things didn't happen from this. Heard you got airlifted and everyone has been thinking about you and wishing you the best. I'm sure it's not the way you wanted to go out, but trust me(coming from a 50 year old)that some things I look back on and I'm just grateful I lived through them. Happy for you to get the best outcome from a really scary crash. It's amazing the things we take for granted everyday. This is a great reminder for all of us to just step back sometimes and be grateful for the little things. All the best for a speedy and full recovery!
Best to your recovery! The crash footage is hard to watch. Glad you didn't suffer greater long term injury. I hope you stay with the DH on a team support or with a media presence, your blog's with Eddie are awesome!
Sooo happy you’re doing ok Donny. A MASSIVE THANK YOU 🙏 to the first responders and medical team who looked after Donny. Have a restful few days and enjoy being waited on hand and foot by Nurse Gary! Go fishing with Ad Brayton, Kade and Danny 😂🤘❤🌈🕊️🌎
Man that's heavy viewing and incredible that you've been able to post. Massive respect for sharing this content as perhaps the reality of the potential outcomes for riders is not universally appreciated. Healing vibes dude!
I’m 3 weeks into a similar injury but only lost feeling in my arms at the time of the crash. Still limited strength and numbness in left arm & hand and still pretty uncomfortable but things improve quicker than you think . Take it easy!
Gutted for you. Glad it isn't as bad as you initially thought. I physically cringed when I watched your gopro of the crash. I've really enjoyed your towed in videos. They revealed more about DH and the riders than the standard coverage. Finally, speedy recovery!
Holy shit that's heavy! I'm sittin here in tears man, I broke my neck (C7) racing MX 20 years ago and life isn't nearly as bad as I was expecting it to be early in the peace, but faaark am I beyond stoked you don't have to find out!
Major bummer. Such a mixed bag of good and bad luck. I'm super happy for you that you're recovering. I imagine that was a very scary experience, so you take care of you. We're glad you have friends there to help.
Bru, crashing is no joke. Glad you up and ok. Have been thinking about the body count of the snowshoe track the whole weekend. That track is no joke and to me at least, unsafe- in terms of riders Cheers to a full recovery.
So much emotion watching this! The places your mind must have gone the past few days… Sending big healing vibes! Take your time recovering mate, be gentle on yourself. How fucking incredible are our bodies. You’ve got this ❤
Deano, I had the same accident as you 2 months ago. It was a shocking and terrifying experience. So good to see you sitting up and able to talk. All the very best in making a full recovery, my love and hugs
Dean that is such a gnarly thing to share bro, seeing the crash the second time on this video made me feel ill. I hope you make a full recovery and don't suffer any lasting effects from this, thank you for sharing.
I went through a similar experience breaking my back and my femur last summer, really makes you appreciate the little things like wiggling your toes. Hope the recovery goes smoothly and your inspiring positive mindset carries you through!
Thanks for taking the time and courage to show us this and talk to the world about it. I think as an amateur, it's very important to see these things that remind us that this sport can be really dangerous and we've all got to be careful even when having fun. Us amateurs, at least for the most of us i'm sure, don't have the level of fitness a pro like you has and a crash like this will likely have even worst consequences on us. So I think it's important to witness it at some point. And medics are never this close of us either. It is hard to watch so I can't even began to think about what it must be like to live it. From the bottom of my heart, I wish you the best recovery possible. Thank you and good vibes from south of France
That's intense Dean!!!! So glad to see & hear your sensations are all returning & I expect, given you're young & fit, they will continue to do so! Thanks for everything you've brought tot he sport & thanks for sharing with us all - 'Sending big healing vibes mate & looking forward to your next chapter. It's going to be even better than you thought!
Thank you for the update. Watching that was horrifying, so glad you have a great support network and the people on track also seemed to know how to look after you. Hoping you keep improving quickly and get home soon.
holy shit dude that was gnarly I am speechless. I actually had a physical reaction to that impact. It's amazing your doing as well as you are man, You are so fucking strong. So glad to see you recovering.
