It's because the contestants are basically walk-ins. You just sign up, fill out a questionnaire, get assigned a group, and wait in your group's waiting room until you're called. The whole point is that it's a speed dating show, they're not "matching" people they're just going through the paired groups until there's not enough contestants left.

What pains me the most about that show is how easily you could fix the its premise by having the button tap whoever presses it out instead of forcing the other person to leave. As it is currently it's far to easy too hit the button the second it lights up repeatedly to hog as much screen-time as possible instead of giving a shit about the premise whatsoever. It honestly seems to me like it's less about rejections and more about clout chasing.

This video is honestly great because it shows the difference between a good fat check and a bad fat check. The first one with Nathan is an example of a good one because he was brief and straight to the point with the hug and didn’t dwell on it repeatedly. The second one with the dude who groped the women in the dark was an example of a bad fat check because not only did Joey fail to realize the chick wasn’t even fat but kept attempting fat checks despite telling himself that she probably was heavy anyways. In all honestly he was probably booted off the show because of this repeated behavior rather than the verdict of the woman herself, but could have been a combination of the two.

Now this might not have been Nathan's true character, but it was still tasteful, as his tone of voice and inflection masked his underlying motives well. 2) No matter how well you vibe with someone, appearances do count, and a lot. The guy wanted to confirm that at least size wise, she was ok. And before anyone starts spouting "fat shaming" nonsense, let me clarify that I am not bashing her weight. I am pointing out that people have preferences, and appearance is not exempt. It is fine to reject someone (as a potential romantic partner, not as a human being) based on their appearance.

Because shows like these favor women and not men, at least initially. Women select on height and wealth. Men select on youth and looks. After that sure personality comes into place, etc. Almost no one in these kinds of blind shows ever makes it through once they see each other. Personality is NOT the top thing for which people select for, neither men nor women. It makes Joey look awful because male selection is obvious. They didn't show what kinds of questions women were asking though. "Where do you work? What are your hobbies? Do you travel? What do you plan for the future? How much do you earn?" Selection is different for both. I think the problem is going to the show in the first place. The problem with Joey is he has zero tact nor people skills.

I think when people say that they’re “engineers” they’re actually engineering journalists, which are not real engineers. Real engineers would not be this desperate unless they were genuine attention whores which doesn’t really attract the engineer mindset.

Also a problem now that STEM is a hot field to be a in. A lot of people would rather be something else, but get pushed into engineering or whatever. Like how many black girls are literally sick of "black girls code" events they have to go to and they're begging to just be nurses or something.
