The Prince of Egypt was supposed to be a giant leap forward in the medium of animation. Pushing away from Disney's family friendly tone and musical numbers, The Prince of Egypt was made with an older audience in mind while also pushing the boundaries of what we thought an animated feature film could look like. Unfortunately for Dreamworks, the movie did not do well at the box office. But in turn it did push the animation industry, Disney included, in new directions with what the Prince of Egypt was able to achieve on screen.

@@eddiejoewalt7746get a life will you. I don't want to burst your bubble but the guy that made the video is jewish you dope 😂 And if you want to go support it's real and the bombing of kids in gaza, go do it don't bring it to a channel like this. Stop Defending Benjamin Netanyahu's need to bomb the palestinians into submission. He's only doing it because it was on his watch that those 1400 civilians were killed. And it was his fault completely. Because Israel was in a dilemma trying to get him out of office and protect the courts and the Justice system in Israel against Benjamin. The majority of Israelis and the majority of palestinians both want peace. And the only reason you don't get it is because Benjamin Netanyahu and his corrupt right-wing government. Benjamin was so busy protecting himself he wasn't protecting his country. Sounds familiar ? Like Donald Trump trying to deny the virus existed as he caught it and spread it around ? Don't bring your nonsense to this guy's channel. This has nothing to do with what's happening in gaza or Israel or in the Middle East at all. He is simply talking about a cartoon made by dream works. If you want to take it in some of the directions do it on your own time. And all you people out there protesting the gaza should Go protest the palestinians into electing a government that isn't a terrorist group and go Protest Israeli civilians To remove Benjamin Netanyahu out of office because he is the only obstacle to a 2 state solution, and he always has been.

7:13 juxtaposing the mistreatment of slaves and the high-living of their masters works really well for this film. It shows the great divide between them, and it shows the cruelty Moses' adoptive family posses. If I have learned anything in history. When you see an underappreciated masterpiece, know that it is not yet time for that piece of art to shine Just look at all the paintings in the museum. @@kernowpictures3882 They followed the perspective of the Israelites who wrote the Torah (later included in the Bible) and highlighted the injustices they suffered. It's just this time the story is told by the people at the bottom not the people at the top so the perspective is focused on how harshly you have to treat a population who outnumbers you when you want to keep them so afraid of the alternative that they will just obey. This is the only way to keep a population of free labour to make your society wealthy. Ancient societies relied almost entirely on manpower to improve their economy so the larger the workforce and the less you had to pay them the more wealth you have in your economy. If you're not motivating your workers with the promise of reward (pay) you must be motivating them with fear of punishment which has to be worse than the alternative.

I saw this movie in the theater when I was 9 years old. I was absolutely blown away. Not just by the production value and the music, both of which were amazing. But I knew the story from Sunday school, and while there were differences, this was the first Bible story adaptation that I had seen that didn’t feel like it was talking down to me. It felt like it was aimed at kids, but also didn’t seem to shy away from the tougher parts of the story.

Yeah I don't think Katzenberg really expected that it would suddenly change 40-50 year old perceptions and expectations of animation, it didn't majorly stand out as Shrek or Finding Nemo later did but it was at least considered good solid start for new rival animation studio.

No lie, this movie terrified me as an adult. One day, I was sitting in the living room, bored out of my skull, exhausted from trying to find a job, went onto Netflix, and I saw Prince of Egypt. I'd never heard of it. "Deliver Us" woke me back up and had me gripped, and by God, LITERALLY, by God, the Burning Bush, I felt the same thing Moses did when God frightened his son to assert his place in the world, but then that "hug" to Moses, picking him back up and telling him he'll be by his side the whole time he's making his journey. One of the best movies I've ever seen. Not just animated, one of the best movies to me.

Bad timing essentially. As someone else pointed out the 90's wasn't exactly kind to Christianity and general audiences hadn't really shown a great deal of interest in religious films since the Biblical epics of the 50's and 60's. Had the film come out a little later during the mid 2000's when Passion of the Christ became a tremendous success. It would have fared much better at the Box Office.
