As dawn broke over the ruins of Nuremberg on April 18, 1945, Lieutenant Michael J. Daly charged forward under relentless German machine gun fire from MG34 and MG42s.
Neutralizing the crew with precise shots from his M1 carbine, Daly pushed ahead of the rubble to clear the road for his company. Alone, the Lieutenant engaged a six-man patrol armed with rocket launchers.
Always cool under combat, the Irish American neutralized the enemy with top-notch accuracy. Not content with that, Mike Daly pressed forward in a city fraught with danger; he led from the front, entering a park to face yet another machine gun.
Daly held his breath and pulled the trigger. Moments later, the third enemy machine gun was neutralized. Filled with adrenaline and inspiring his men, Daly went on the hunt for another enemy crew.
He went out in the open, followed by his men, when the abrupt silence was broken by enemy fire, and Daly was down…

Wow, he was one tough SOB. I know why his men followed him everywhere. He always led from the front and risked just as much as anyone. Those Officers are few and far between. Also, great men to have as your leader. Respect.

The best warriors always seem to break your heart..Heroes are everywhere, heroes never ask for the credit, heroes love others more than themselves. Heroes never complain, or give up. Heroes are ordinary. Lt. Dayley... Selfless-Sacrifice defined . RIP , we thank you.

The TRUE stories about these American heroes should be taught in all our schools. Thank you for posting this. I did not know of this great man before, although I have studied WWII. The greatest generation can still inspire us. Never forget their heroism!

Come on you people who criticize….. I have seen hundreds of hours of videos about war. I’m also a Vietnam veteran with 7 years in the Army…. I’ve seen so much film footage when the narrator is talking about Marine soldiers and showing Army soldiers!!! It’s just a menagerie of videos to give you something to look at while telling you military history. Lighten up

I think that today 30% of young Swedish men were unfit for the army. They had all kinds of allergies, neuropsychological diagnoses or was badly “curlade” (Swedish parents are “curling parents”, but I think the US term is “hoovering or helicopter parents”), shortly to close to mommy.

I love this channel and this video, I just found the opening funny. I felt like that pointing Dicaprio meme. "He charged forward with his m1 carbine". Footage of pretty much every well known American small arm except an m1 carbine. No shade, well made. Just happened to work out that way and I happened to see it
@kraigsmyth
@kraigsmyth 2 месяца назад
I'm used to my great grandfather's paratrooper stock, so maybe I missed a full wood carbine on one of the running guys, but I think I only saw Thompsons, m1 garands, and Springfield '06's on the US side. Many m1 garands in each shot saying carbine. Having shot both, they have some key differences, lol. Don't mind me though, I'm just an autistic history teacher who has loves his many relics. I'm also not 100% sure. I love this channel and my very occasional "gotcha" moments with mismatched footage. Video editing is a lot of work and you match the feeling of the story very well.

I live pretty close to Anniston Al, growing up it was a trip seeing army convoys everywhere. In the late 60s Huey daisy chains constantly going over. There was an artillery range near the fort, Pelham range. We would deer hunt near there and artillery rounds would shake the leaves out of the trees.

A very brave man, risking his life at the end of the war. But keep in mind, that Nuremberg was mostly defended by Hitleryouth and Volkssturm old men, there were not many regular troops there. Non or less a formidable act of bravery and shows how war was, not like in all the films

The mountains mentioned at 6:37 weren't foreboding (adj.), which describing a feeling of dread that people get, they were forbidding (also adj.), which describes their inherent nature. Meanwhile, back at 6:02, the Colmar pocket had no reputation as an "ominous" place until after everyone knew what had happened there. Literacy has taken a back seat but it still counts, because we know you're faking it when you use language poorly.
