Surprising that the BBC consistently sends out millions of these, while constantly preaching about Climate Change.

I hope the over 75s are using the money on their heating instead of the licence fee......

I have so far received this letter 23 times. It didn't scare me the first time, and it certainly didn't scare me the twenty third time. 😁

Had this one on valentine's day, in a red envelope, deliberately to look like a card . Went straight in the bin.

"Anything you say to the officer can be used in a court of law". "Mr tv licence man, stop hitting me please". 😅

One factor I find very disappointing is that we have a government that seemed prepared to rid us of this pestilence and yet allows such grossly misleading communications to be forwarded to law abiding citizens. Boris, lad, I have no problems with your cake and a bottle at Christmas nor with the pathetic forked tongue utterances of former mates, but you truly have screwed up iro the BBC. They are a disgrace and you are no better for going along with their bullying.

I'd love one of these law firms to take them on, for missing selling you something you don't need.

There must be a law against such threatening letters. The tone and presumption of these letters are that people without a license are guilty of watching live TV without a license. Arent people in this country in Law, presumed to be innocent before being proven guilty. Not with TV Licensing! This should be brought to the attention of MP's to be discussed and debated in Parliament, and TV Licensing reprimanded.

I wouldn't know about this letter as we just put them unopened, straight into the recycling bin.

I would urge anyone getting these letters, forward them to your MP, letting them know the BBC are causing you anxiety with their blatant threats. Ask your MP why they are permitting the BBC to behave like this?

If anyone else sent these letters they would be in court. They can't obtain a court warrant without evidence, and they can only obtain it by you talking to them or allowing them entry. If you do get a visit, just take Jons advice.

The best way I have found to deal with TV licencing is ZERO contact. Since they reneged on the free licence for us oldies, I have been receiving a letter a month (minimum) these letters addressed to me using my correct name in the beginning, changing to the "present occupier" after a time. One of the letters threatened to cancel my TV licence, but strangely enough, they appear not to have done this & the letters have dried up 🤔 Perhaps they have given up on me🥳😂

Calling round morning or evening? Don't they work afternoons then? Maybe they're Spanish and enjoy a good siesta every day 🤣

Seeing the use of the word 'Officer' in those letters reminded me of an episode of 'Family Guy' where Lois approaches a security guard at a shopping centre; Lois: "Excuse me sir" Guard: "That's officer, ma'am" Lois: "No, it isn't. It's barely sir" Guard (looking down in shame): "Yeah, I know".

We'll get Gary Lineker coming round crying, "Why you not paying my wages?"

Imagine this scenario: A major on-line supermarket like ASDA, Tesco, Sainsbury's or Waitrose, sends you a letter demanding £160 for a delivery that you never ordered, informing you that you are being investigated. A couple of weeks later, they send around a 'grocery enforcement officer' who demands that you let them into your house so he/she can rummage through your cupboards to see if you have any of the items they allege you took delivery of. He/she tells you that you have to prove to their satisfaction that you haven't received the delivery. You refuse and they threaten that if you don't let them in they'll return with a search warrant. You'd go straight to trading standards, wouldn't you? And the police! So why does the BBC get to act in this manner? By the way, if a goon tells you that if you don't let them into your home they're going to return with a search warrant, they're breaking the law. It is an offence to attempt to gain access to the home of a householder, who has already denied access to them, by threatening to obtain a warrant. Besides, if they actually had 'reasonable grounds' to go to the magistrates court to apply for a warrant, then they certainly wouldn't warn you about it in advance.

Yep that's been my latest one. I get a new one every single month.

I've been on the "final stages of investigation" now for several years. They must be planning some massive sting operation, and to think I could completely scupper years of planning by simply not answering the door :D

Always gets me how some of these letters say they will visit in the morning/evening, is this because they need councelling/a lie down in the afternoon to recover from having all those doors closed in their faces in the morning?

Threat and intimidation. Imagine how the old and infirm would react to this?

Someone needs to sign up with one of those "no win -no fee" firms and sue Capita and the BBC for Threatening Words and Behaviour (a crime under Section 4 of the Public Order Act 1986). The police and CPS won't get involved because the rotten establishment always supports its own. But a good enterprising lawyer could make their name with a case like this. Imagine someone with a mental health condition, or a serious physical health condition, being harassed like this. Surely it would have some mileage?

i receieved that exact letter a few weeks ago, they showed up here on monday. I work nights, have 2 days off and dont watch any tv because its depressing. I have a PC, with my PS5 hooked up to the monitor. Was playing it and the goon looked through my window, then banged my front door like the police. I answered through the side window, PS5 on full display and had a short chat. He was all "I see your watching TV, you need a license for that sir." ANd i replied. "im on the PS5, not watching a TV. And can you read. Theres a sticker on my door from the local police." *No cold calling. It is an offense to continually visit and harrass the occupant of this address* "You're a traveling sales man." No, im an enforcement officer, open the door. Im going to question you under caution. "No thanks. Goodbye. Good day." Shut the window and curtain. He banged for a few more minutes until next door came out and told him "Oi fXXk off with that banging or ill call the cops! Yeah, i dont care im calling them now. Whats your ID number?" Had to give a statement as the guy actually broke the door frame, was signs he tried to kick the door including a boot print by the lock which is at my eye hight of 5ft 5. That and my neighbour statement. Hopefully something will happen.

Got one of those too. Ignored it....just like the rest. Got a nice pile of these now to burn when times are desperate. I've been threatened over and over with a visit...and nothing.

The best way of not being intimidated by their letters is dead simple.......don't read them, bin them, un-opened.

Me and wife like laughing at them and trying to guess which stage of their "investigation" we're at before it inevitably loops back to the beginning letter.

Jon, I've had two letters over the last few weeks... I've posted them through my local postbox a few times. It surely will come to their attention at some point, that the mail codes have been used a number of times!

The thing that bothers me is when the tv licence is debated in parliament, they never talk about the very subject you mention Jon. The severity of the letters and scare tactics and threatening letters. Surely if this aspect was brought up it would have more credibility.

Got this letter on Wednesday, Keeping them all till November 5th, so I can throw them all on the bonfire...

I had hope so much johnson would have done something about the bbc, but like the rest of his policy decisions they all add up to a BIG FAT ZERO, and thats the only net zero he will be remembered for.

The Post Office should tell them that they will not deliver malicious mail, was the telephone when was the post office I wouldn't be allowed to make malicious phone calls. There are rules for the use of the mail or telephone communications these letters obviously are breaking those rules.

I think those goons at tv licence have missed a trick here. Why not visit people, and hand them a piece of paper with a “black spot” on it, so they can pass them on to other transgressors 😂😂😂. It would save a fortune on postage

Thanks. I really needed this. I'm getting really ground down by the relentlessly flood of nasty letters. Now I just bin them as soon as I recognize where they're from but it gets emotionally exhausting standing your ground and steals one's peace of mind. There ought to be a way of suing them for the emotional distress they inflict out of sheer greed and self -interest.

These letters are great firestarters for the crap I burn at my allotment.

I've seen them wandering around, and purely because half My Family are lawyers it was the only occasion I opened the door to Him, singular, got it on an old phone. He did the spiel, Parrot fashion, didn't like the "Please leave." "Going to get a warrant!" "Based on what?" "This visit! This conversation!" "There's never been a conversation." And the last line is the kicker, because The Law in Scotland requires Corroboration, that's why Police in Scotland always work in pairs, no Procurator Fiscal would waste a Courts time without corroboration. I've been told that sometimes they will travel in packs, but as I now happily live on My own, outwith casual dropping in range, all My Friends and Family visit by appointment only. So unless I'm in an exceptionally gregarious mood (has never happened!) Everyone is left standing outside. I don't buy anything at the door, I do all My own maintenance and I don't want to talk to any pollster or party worker! I don't own a tv because I have always thought the biased broadcasting corporation were Shite! I refuse to encourage them, or aid and abet their con trick!

I had the same letter last week. My husband who is just post op from major heart surgery was very worried and stressed. So I ripped it up and threw it in the bin and said being as we’re both 75yrs old prison will save on our heating and food bill 😂 Thanks to you I’m not the slightest bit worried and don’t intend to buy a licence I don’t need. Dude. Thank you as always for your post. Apart from how absurd, ridiculous, ill-thought-out, technically and legally wrong and deliberately, almost spitefully intimidating and threatening this 'letter' is, 'officer' is not spelt with a capital 'o'. Who ever sends it, if I receive a letter containing poor grammar, punctuation and spelling, it goes straight in the bin. Always a pleasure to see your posts.

My wife and I have no intention of opening their letters, interacting with the salesmen, waiting in for them or worrying about them, although the wife did tell one to eff off in Turkish once. We have electronics gates which open with a remote. A couple of times capita have got in by following a tradesman. Both times it took nearly an hour to get out...

I've had this letter. The funny thing is that after this one the letters start again, from gentle reminder upwards. And then continue on a loop. I've never had any issues and only one visit in ten years

They have opened a case for enforcement visit 7 times in as many months 😂😂😂😂

I chased a tv detector van out of my street about a week after i removed their implied right of access, was so funny.

Great ! Thanks Chilli for your time and advice I really appreciate it . I canceled my direct debit about 3 years ago got a small refund but I have never told them that I don’t require a license . I get a threatening letter every month I have saved every one just in case at some point in the future their is a class action for intimidation and threats as stated in the letters that demand for me to pay for a licence I don’t require! I have missed 2 visits would love to be in on the next one so I can invite the goon in to sit on the edge of my bath while while I’m doing a poo while I explain why I don’t need a license 😬😬 . Seriously I really feel for the elderly and people that have mental health problems who wouldn’t know how to deal with these government funded extortionist ! Keep up the great work I’m 100% behind you .

I reckon I've probably had every type of letter they've ever done. I don't know for sure because they go straight into the bin - unopened ;)

To the best of my memory, they have been 'proceeding with the final stage...' 15 times since 2010 with me.

Why couldn't they have sent us all these letters when there was panic buying that lead to the shortage of toilet paper.

The thing is, you can watch BBC iplayer on any device, so they will come in, look at your tv/device and say "you can use that device to watch live tv/BBC iplayer" and screw you right over regardless of if you watch Iplayer/live tv or not, CLOSE THAT DOOR AND DO NOT LET THE FUCKERS STITCH YOU UP!

It's the back of the letters that get's me. They say they would like to stop writing to you, just let them know you don't need a licence. It's WHEN you tell them you don't need a licence that they START writing to you.

I've had this one. It went straight into the bottom of the litter tray and my Cat duly gave his opinion of it.

Another thing I've noticed them doing now is sending letters to the 'legal occupier' now that I have informed them that I don't need a licence. Scumbags

Amazing how much toilet paper they send out every year. I'm sure that even people who pay the TV tax still receive these letters millions wasted every year.

Just received this one myself today.

How can they question you under caution, according to criminal law, they have not proved you are a criminal yet, plus they do not have the authority to do so. so now they have reverted to impersonating police officers, which in itself is a crime.

So they assume guilt, and use intimidation to trick people into confessing to doing something and then if they fail, just lie to get a fraudulent conviction. No wonder the police like helping them, they do the same job.

I had this crap , some years ago my mother moved her address she always had tv licence and was one of those people who kept all her paperwork. She was getting letters like this over several years they sent the goons round she showed her current and past licences. At first it was a bit of a joke then a threatening letter arrived in a Black envelope , after speaking with her she obviously was shaken and worried in her late 60s at the time. I was livid so asked who's name was on the bottom of the letter and if there was a reply address.There was and it was in Bristol which was were I was living at the time. so I asked my mother to send me photo copies of all her licences and all the letters she received. I then wrote to this bitch in the BBC enclosing all this and asking to set up a face to face meeting to sort this out( I had every intention of punching her lights out for threatening my mother . But low and behold my mother rang me and said she received a bunch of flowers and letter confirming that she did have a licence she was happy and heard no more from them I wasn't they got off light and I was looking forward to giving a bully a good hiding.

Virtually identical to mine, except from a different area. Although unable to send the file - too large, apparently - a couple of other Subscribers replied to me with good advice about how to get around that problem. Keep up the good fight Jon 👊👍.

Harassment

Had this letter a couple of days ago. It came in a red envelope. I was going to scan it in and send you a copy, but got side-tracked and forgot. Glad a good number of people did send you a copy. Very annoying letter.

Anything addressed to the legal occupier goes unopened straight in the recycle bin.

I've had zero engagement with them for over 10 years and not had a single visit. Sometimes I'll open their latest letter to have a laugh, most of the time they go straight in the bin unopened. Most of their convictions come from people saying too much on the doorstep. Don't answer any questions from random strangers. If you don't say anything to them, they're not going to find any evidence against you (unless you've got Eastenders on in the background when you open the door).

You can actually close the door to a police constable also if you haven't committed a criminal offence as they have no power to do anything.

This kind of letter simply shows how desperate the BBC are becoming. Send their salesmen packing if they knock on the door, and use their letters as free cat-tray liners.
