lol Yamaguchi prefers Apocalypse Zero to his later more "mature" stuff. drop the "ughhh it's mind rotting trash" nonsense; this manga is genuinely amazingly good. the grossout comedy is well drawn and funny, the serious stuff is really well done and basically a more lighthearted fantastical version of Shigurui. the mix of earnest drama and silly shit is pure shonen, just taken to the next level; everything from Kinnikuman to Dragon Ball went from silly to serious. it's obviously Kill la Kill's biggest influence and does have thematic depth; it's about reframing nationalistic & fascistic aesthetics & philosophies for a good cause; the unending self-sacrificial drive of a samurai dedicated to doing good as opposed to masochistically serving a corrupt lord or master. it's an optimistic version of Shigurui; Kakugo is Gennosuke if he DID manage to escape his coding and become a legitimately good person, directing his resolve towards something that helps those in need as opposed to enforcing the will and undeserved power of tyrants.

Its a bit annoying that if you search for apocalypse zero this is one of the vids you see and many might just dismiss the series all together..

With how violent this manga looks it looks like a seinen. But then again most old school manga were incredibly violent

Absolutely one of my all time favorite manga, along with HNK, the original Devilman, Berserk, and Hajime No Ippo. I understand why people hate it, but I don’t care, it’s so god damn entertaining and awesome.

People who hate Kakugo no susume and love kill la kill are either stupid or are fanservice enjoyers. They are Objectively the same, Kill la kill being more Cartoony and the Three most important figures being gender swapped. I enjoy both but calling Kakugo no susume Trash is just plain wrong.

I kind of like the art. I mean, its nicely detailed.

I heard this described as what if Garth Ennis wrote a Kamen Rider parody, and while that’s not completely accurate considering it’s still pretty earnest, it does feel like that at times. Some of the more ludicrous bits do feel more like dry, black comedy than just being completely stupid, but that being said there are still obvious problems with the plot

How dare you call this trash, this is better than most stuff that’s popular nowadays. If you look past the gore and violence, it’s actually a well thought out love letter to showa era tokusatsu heroes

Nonsense this story is extremely profound, the zero style martial arts are based on the INTERNAL MARTIAL ARTS! Which aren’t for play play…they’re for doing the things outlined in this manga. Providing your actually receiving internal training and training it physically😑…If this was given the Baki reboot treatment, it would be an antidote to the extremism that everybody wants to engage in. It’s an anti fascism/extremism story that would be perfectly fitting of what’s going on now! Netflix reboot this one Immediately!

There's something to be said for how, as messed up as this manga can be, it's at least trying to tackle Japan's fascist history and the generational trauma that came from it. Is it doing it in any way that's particularly nuanced or tasteful? Fuck no, but it's at least trying and doing so in the most explicit ways imaginable, and it gets some respect from me for even trying.

Sometimes, all you really need is garbage content that doesn't pretend to be anything more than what it is, that kind of earnestness is worth treasuring even if it's silly garbage brain sludge

I’m not gonna lie Apocalypse zero is basically probably one of the most crazy anime/manga that I ever saw like it’s basically a brutal messed up version of kamen rider

This manga is not Trash is a story so epic as it can get. I like the MC monologues and one liners "my body is a weapon the defend those with no fangs" that is one hell of a one liner
