In this video I decided to build a unique slatted, triangular, interlocking, modern telephone bench. Building pieces like this is always fun since I have very few limitations when it comes to the design and build process. So I was able to push the boundaries of the furniture I usually make, and build something that I felt was unique but still would look good in different settings. So come along on a wonderful woodworking journey as I build this Modern Bench.

You guys always think outside the box. Wasn’t feelin the design at first and that’s probably because I’m most comfortable with the standard bench design, but it has grown on me.

I really like that bench and think it would be an awesome hallway bench, so I think I'll make one but maybe use some sapele instead of walnut, and beech or Ash, depending what's available here in the UK.

"Lyle" glasses. the bench is a nice, easy design. The dimensions can be altered to give a shorter bench, with a taller table, and I can call it my "solo dining bench".

Stunning work/design Shaun! I've been obsessed with slatted design recently. Sometimes the required 'mathing' can creep up on ya in a design, but builds are always so much more fun when you can wing some arbitrary dimensions/angles. I've also recently started employing the cutting out MDF templates on the X-Carve, and flush trimming on my piece and it is such a game changer (doing this on my current build). Thanks for bringing that skill to our attention 😊

So unique, i think i went from Liking it to disliking it and back about 3 times! The phone at the end is what tied it altogether, i.e. giving that raised section a purpose. Definitely think you need to iterate on this design to see where the ideas go.

Why do you use bandsaw for those long straight rough cuts instead of track saw (just wondering if it's faster or some other reason) ? Like the look of the bench

Yep, when the cut doesn't need to be perfect, it is just faster than setting up the track, and the bandsaw cuts through it much easier.

@16:07 - what are you spraying here? If it’s anything other than water, not wearing PPE is quite cavalier. It really ruined the video for me. The piece is beautiful and I really enjoy your videos, but once I saw that I couldn’t pay attention to anything else. You were wearing what looks to be a P100 while sanding 10 seconds earlier in the video. Why not here? I hope you’re being safe so we get to enjoy more videos in the future. Also hope you guys send the right message to your viewers as well….

Great project, is there a reason you didn't sand and finish the individual pieces before assembly? Seems like it would be tough to get to some areas. Order of Operations is my weak point right now as I feel like I often regret not doing something before my glue up.
