Where Trackmaster 2 failed with this was they tried to make it gimmicky. But, this Thomas is a prime example of why i love the Trackmaster 1 line of this - It feels like an actual engine just with light's which elevates the model even more! Truly a shame this line didnt continue
It’s about time someone finally reviews this line! That Thomas was the first trackmaster I ever got (when I was about 2 - 3 years old) I accidentally destroyed it and thus don’t have it anymore, so seeing this video is giving me TONS of nostalgia. Keep up the good work!
In 2013 I was going through a gender dysphoria induced fifth-life crisis, so I bought a bunch of old Tomy stuff. I remember sodor blackout even if I never actually picked it up since all my stuff was used. I never knew they had a light-up feature! The catalogs and packaging I don't remember showing that off.
The closest thing I have to anything in the Sodor Blackout range is that Trackmaster 2 glow in the dark Edward. I’ve done an experiment and that thing can glow all night if you shine enough light on it first.
Tomy made a few non-Thomas plarail trains with lights. I had a remote-control bullet train with lights you could turn on an off, a horn, and the ability to go backwards (although mine no longer does that). The HyperCity Patrol Liner also has a light on it. I find it odd it took so long for there to be an official motorized light-up Thomas especially since the engines already run on batteries.
I swear "Sodor Blackout" is the name of one of those Sodor Fallout copys, and I feel like more people know that than this Trackmaster line. And somehow I'm only slightly disappointed.
Yes! I remember having Light Up Thomas back then! ..until I no longer had my old collection When I started collecting trackmaster again, I really wanted to get Light Up Thomas again, luckily I went to Edison back in March, I found it, and in good condition too!
If you were to bring up "Sodor Blackout" nowadays out of context, it'd probably just come off sounding like one of those disturbing Wattpad AUs. This range was really damn cool, I was fortunate enough to own the Toby pack, but I wasn't able to pick up Duck or the light up engines or the sets. The idea of a huge blackout hitting Sodor and the engines having to work briskly yet carefully was an idea that I have always wanted to see in an episode, and I can't remember if they ever did that for an episode. Add this concept in with some Ghost Train level atmosphere, and this episode concept could be a straight banger. Thanks for the nostalgia as always, TrainBoy!
I remember seeing all the Trackmaster light up engines and the Sodor Blackout merchandise at Target and Toys “R” Us back in 2012 and 2013, I also have a Trackmaster Light Up Thomas and it’ll be nice if they made a Trackmaster Light Up Edward, Henry, Gordon and James
I still own and run the Percy from this series to this day. It’s very nice! I could’ve sworn they made a James though. Sucks that there’s no other Blackout characters.
This was the only Thomas I had as a kid. I did not have a normal one surprisingly! Eventually I lost it somewhere, and I miss it so much. I got mine right off the pegs when it came out, and I was only like 5 or 6. I have an old video with me putting on a cute little layout, but that’s up on my dads channel. This video is inspiring me to try and find one again, and I am really happy that one brings you just as much joy as it did to me. It’s so cool seeing one again. I actually still have the orange van he came with.
I used to own that glowing Thomas and I can remember it was my favorite thomas in my collection It’s forever lost now but I still have the boxvan from the set tho
I have Percy. I use him as my main Percy, because I love him. Proportion wise he’s not that accurate but I don’t care because of the working light and the detail in the cab. You’re right. This line is underrated. I actually kind of wish these became the main track master models instead of Trackmaster two.
I have a question for you; I came across a Trackmaster factory error...though it's the AEG Percy and Bruno pack. But Percy is missing his #6. Should I unbox him, or take him out of the box to examine him a bit more?
if you ever get back into wooden engines i suggest searching for the battery powered thomas, percy, james and i believe salty are the 4 that light up from early 2000s. those are motorized. the next iteration comprises of only thomas, percy, and james with their head lamps lighting up when moving or when you push a button on top of the cabs to cause the engines to either whistle or make steam sounds.
you know I actually have the blackout Percy with the light up feature and yes the wheels are meant to lock up and yes Percy is very similar to trackmaster and tomy Percy just a bit longer
Whats stupid is that I barely found light up Thomas that is cheap and new on ebay. Whats worse is that some of the light up engines has prices that are literally eye bleeders. 😢
Do you have a plarail back and go Thomas Thomas in your collection (the one with the giant coupler on the front), if so can you show us the model in closer details?
I have a light up Thomas but I lost is not to long ago and now recently I found the shell not even connected with the running board just the blue of Thomas in a trash bag in my basement 😭
Why can't TOMY/Plarail think of this idea to be inspired by Hit TrackMaster and bring old Thomas fans back to buying stuff instead of the All Engines Go! Merchandise?
