I live in the UK and bought one just over a year ago from the Sony (Japan) website and had it shipped by a third party shipping company for a small fee. It is fantastic. I have it as the clasp my mechanical watch. I have the app working in English (not sure why the video says it won't translate). All of the functionality is excellent. The alerts work well and you can adjust the text size so I can easily read emails, SMS, Whatsapp messages without getting my phone out. The vibrate is noticeable but not too distracting. I single charge lasts about a month. The build is fantastic. Very nice brushed and polished stainless steel and the touch screen works well given the size. It all feels high quality. My one note of caution/niggle is that payment doesn't seem to work outside of Japan (certainly not in the UK).

I have just got one of these too! How did you manage to set the app up on your phone? Doesn't seem to want to play ball when I sign in with my Sony account!

@@coitinator Hi. I can't remember precisely but just had a minor panic when I went to check just now and and found I couldn't connect anymore! Anyway. I signed in using my Apple account which seems fine. I then deleted the connection on the device (in settings)....I assume you won't need to do that if this is a new device. I then connected via bluetooth in settings on my phone (device comes up as WNW-21A on my phone). Once i'd done that, I was able to sync in the Wena 3 app. Hope that help!

I bought it and used it since two years now , the look and finish ( build quality) is good and put it straight away withing lux products range , also battery life time is substantial , however having that said I have to indicate the downsides and they are many: 1- support: if you live outside Japan then it is 100% not supported even if you try to reach to Sony Japan they will send you to Sony in your zone who will by turn will ask you to throw it away and buy other model supported in Europe ( literally they asked me to throw my 500$ worth wena 3 because the rubber strap snapped and they don’t have rubber strap to adapt it and Sony Japan simply don’t care ) 2- if you will buy it you need to speak Japanese or willing to learn because Wena3 is mostly in Japanese language ( weather app , instructions , emails and website , Japanese all the way baby !!) 3- Bluetooth connection : scandalous as it connect and disconnect from iPhone as it please , not to mention that it supports 3 part apps that are endorsed -again- only in Japan ! So if you have Yale Home , Bosma , Nest , Arlo , Yuki, any other smart home gadget other than QRIO lock then this is not for you or you don’t use it for access as it promoted! 4- payment : only Japan .. American Express , Visa, Master , Diners Club, Etc are not good for Wena 3 so no NFC and no payment without contact sorry! 5- Alexa: this made me really angry because I thought even if Wena3 is not compatible with smart gadgets but if it connects with Alexa then I can ask Alexa via the band to do the job and give the order to my smart lock or smart light or camer right … NOPE! it disconnect from Alexa always , it need to open your phone lunch the app ( wena3 app that is only available in Japanese App Store ) and synch the hell of the phone date to the band every time and then only you can give the order to the Alexa via the band … but isn’t more simple to give the order to Alexa via your phone since you had to take out first place ! 6- accessories & spare parts : difficult & next to impossible… try to find screen protector to adapt the screen , or connectors for the clasp … I mentioned earlier that the rubber bracelet snapped and to replace it … they don’t provide replacement 😐 .. I had to look on AliExpress and Amazon for a strap to adapt the 17 mm of Wena clasp which eventually looks gimmicky & defeats the luxury look that I bought the wena3 for !! So I usually go back to my Ultra watch .. Petty though the idea is good and need little bit work from Sony but it seems that they are just not Interested!

Cool gadget. I always wondered why smart watches don't stick batteries and sensors in the strap.

I hope SOny add google pay to it and sell it in north america. I have a non-smart watch that I really like and this will be a good compliment to it.

Great gadget. Could fit nicely someone who would like to extend his mechanical watch with smart watch functionality without compromising the look and style. Possibly they could even use an eInk screen on it, cause it is anyhow monochrome display, although it would impact the responsiveness.

Honestly, they could have. And I'm not sure why they didn't. They have three e-paper watches currently in their lineup, so I wouldn't have been a stretch to do another.

If they won't even translate the app to English, how long do you think the app, without wich the "smart" watch is brick, will stick around in app stores in a working condition?

Fantastic video, thank you! Could you do a follow up video that shows how the Wena handles notifications?

Looks really interesting! Another potential compatibility issue is the payments outside of Japan as TechEdit mentioned it wasn’t compatible elsewhere. Not sure if that has changed or not.

Great idea, especially for NFC pay. But even without it, if Casio would do "F91", strap, with usual casio features, I'll definitely buy such casiostrap. Cause I like and use this simplies Casio features like.. stopwatch, alarmsettings. And having it in same time with automaticwatch. Of course all this usable from smartwatch and phone .. but casio usability is something more efficient and natural

Hi It doesn’t connect! In the app there is 3 regions only ( Japan , Ireland , UK) now for someone who lives in Italy or in France and bought this band by accident what should he/she do to get it connect to their phones especially that the app will suggest either wena pro or wena sport but never wena 3 and therefore the app will never ever recognize the band even if one succeed to connect it to phone via Bluetooth directly! Any solution or tutorial ? Also the language it is Japanese, how to change it to English ! Thank you

TechEdit has a put together with just the Wena without the watch on it but he needed to cut the band for the custom fit, which I imagine Good Ereader didn’t want to do if they weren’t keeping it.

It looks like Fitbit Luxe but more expensive. Initially it looks like a good idea but it's really not that practical - it's marketed as an add-on to regular watch, but who wears their regular watch 24/7? Do you go to sleep wearing your Rolex or Tag Heuer for sleep tracking? Or out jogging with your Omega? It also doesn't seems to have haptic which is important for notifications.

It has vibration, interesting they are doing a review since this device is already 2 years old. This device is mostly targeted towards Japan market, for example they have features such as Qrio (Smart Lock), Riiiver (Smart Home) and MAMORIO which is more popular in Japan. I think there are a lot more Japanese who wear business watches casually and not for status or speculation. For the same reasons, there are often anime collaborations with major watch makers but you won't see it in the western world because it weakens their brand. Most smart watches have these problems as well since you lose a huge chunk of tracking because they need to be charged every so often. (China brands somehow fair a lot better for this)

You can buy a strap to convert the Wena to function exactly like the Fibit Luxe. So you have the option to switch depending on activity.

Touchscreen "smart" watches look disgusting. Now you can make your "smart" watch look even more disgusting by frankensteining it up.
