Wow, thank you SO much for this. I wish I could pay you for this video because you have really helped me. I’m starting my own candle business but I have been struggling drastically with the measurements to get everything right. Math has never been my strong point. I was almost to the point of giving up on starting the business because I just really couldn’t understand the math. This video has completely changed that. Thank you again! ❤️

OMG Erica, thank you soooooo much! First off math was never my favorite subject but the way you laid it out made things so easy to understand. I was weighing water instead of wax to find my fill weight and could not understand why the numbers were off. Thanks again, I really appreciate it.

I've never had issues with math or weight conversions, however, when I started making candles, because of the 1% to 1lb formula that most manufacturers use, I kept wasting wax and fragrance or I wasn't filling my jars to the fill line. Thank YOU so very much for breaking this down into a simple formula. I have a strong feeling I won't be wasting or coming up short anymore!

I would rather have sent you a private email but I'm not all that tech savvy so if there's an email addy here someplace, I've not seen it so, I'll start by saying I love your videos. I watch them all when I catch them. Since I've only recently found your channel and subscribed a short time ago I'm sure I've missed several. I'm also aware that this particular video is 2 yrs. old (or so it says). so maybe you've corrected the misconception regarding water but if you don't know then I'd like to share a different approach on the water issue. In fact you should use water to determine your fill point instead of wax. Why waste the wax or vessel (or have to clean it so it can be reused) when water is so much easier, cheaper, cleaner, quicker and more accurate. Fill your vessel to whatever point you wish then weight it. The specific gravity of water is 1.0 and the specific gravity of wax (or at least 99% of them) is .86. Simply multiply the water weight by .86 and that will get you the fill weight of wax to use in the rest of your formulations. For example, if the weight of the water at the desired fill point happens to be 9oz, then multiplying 9oz by .86 will get you an actual wax weight of 7.74oz needed to reach the fill point. I hope this helps.

When trying to find the fill weight for wax in a container, can you fill to the fill line with water and multiply the water weight by .86? (I think I read this somewhere) If this is true, will it work with all wax types? Using water would seem easier than using actual melted wax for measurement if one was making a batch of candles in various sized containers... if the formula is accurate of course. Thank you for taking the time to make this very informative video.

Okay... maybe this is a stupid question, but I’m going to ask anyway! It would probably be more time consuming, but when it comes time to pour the wax into your vessels, couldn’t you just put the vessel onto the scale, tare it, and then pour to make sure it’s exactly the weight that you want? And then move onto the next vessel and do the same thing? As opposed to using the piece of foil or some other type of marker? Is my idea completely wrong? 😂

Hope you understand what I mean. Thank You, Renee

So I have always had trouble with math so hopefully I’m understanding this correctly. 10% FO is for the fill weight. (8oz) so 0.8 oz and 7.2 oz of wax? So for a 16 oz candle, it would be 1.6 oz of FO and 14.4 of wax? Like I mean I got bad grades in school because I couldn’t understand it at all. But I think this is making sense. Help!!!
@paula.rochefort3408
@paula.rochefort3408 Год назад
Thank you for very informative video. However, I do think you can calculate the needed weight of wax for a container by measuring the weight of water added to the desired fill line. The density of water is 1 g/cm3 ( cm3 = cubic cm) while the density of soya wax is 0.90 g/cm3 and paraffin wax is 0.93 g/cm3. Therefore to arrive at need wax weigh, measure weigh of water needed to fill the container to the fill line and multiply the weigh (of water) by the density of the wax to be used to get the weight of wax needed. For example: if a container is filled with 100 g of water, the weight of wax needed (using soya wax) will be 100g X 0.9 = 90 g, or for paraffin wax it would be 100g X 0.93 =93 g. BTW this will also work in kg, pound, or ounces, if needed ,since the formula relies on the relative density of water (1 g/cm3) and the density of the wax (0.90 or 0.93 g/cm3) that is: Weigh of water X (wax density /water density)= Weigh of wax. with the volume of wax and water equal.

This is the first video I've ever watched about candle making. So if I have various sized vessels that I want to fill, I'm going to have to do the measurements and math for each vessel. I'm not going to be able to make one big batch of wax/FO and fill all of my various sized vessels at once because it's going to be different for each vessel. I'll have to measure one, melt the wax, add the FO, fill the one vessel, then do it all over again for the next vessel. Am I understanding that correctly?

If you forget to add the % sign or don’t have one while dividing, just multiply by 100 and you’ll get the same answer

It's so simple but also complicated enough that it would be confusing if you didn't explain it so well!

I’ve been doing my test for a couple of weeks now, using this formula that you share in a previous video. Thank you for the time and sharing all your knowledge… God bless you! And yes, there’s enough ppl in this planet that would purchase from any candle maker in the world… We just need to keep them coming back for more! 😊❣️Wishing success to all of us who have dared to start our own business. 🥂🙏🏼🕯
