For a moment I wondered if it was a budget-saving thing - they don't have to go out into the countryside with a bunch of drones for five days. But it strikes me that the amount of preparation and rehearsal is probably just as time-consuming. Especially given that it's single-purpose - with the outdoorsy videos they probably end up with masses of stock footage they can use in other videos.

The cynic in me says it’s because a certain recent pad safety video was done in one take - and that was the only thing it really got any praise for. Then the square space ad in the next most recent video was really popular as you can see by the timeline replays. So they decided to slap those two elements together with a topic that most people don’t know or care about and punch out another video so there’s a bit more distance from the controversial April one. Seems to have worked :)

I'm an aerospace engineer. What Ryan said. Street motorcycle aerosurfaces are about as useful as their automotive counterparts but motorcycles aren't as forgiving with the downside. They're mostly just something to tear off when you go down. Plus nonperpendicular aerosurfaces ahead of the cg are directionally destabilizing. That's aerospace engineering talk.
@tedchristian2235

thanks, Ryan, the voice of reason is loud and clear. I retired two years ago moved to Uruguay and bought 2 Svartpilen 401s for my wife and I, yes I can honestly say that I enjoy riding more now at 67 years old than any time in the last 20 years on a 1000cc sportbike. Softer gentler smile-inducing rides like being 10 years old again on a Honda step-thru 90. The only wings on rides now is a once in a while RedBull

Thanks to the Honorable FortNine, I have been silently exonerated from poking fun at some popular motorcycle peeps out there in YT land. The ones who tend to over explain, over complicate, then demonstrate it six ways to Sunday what should be natural hand to eye coordination learned at the age of seven. Hope Ft.9 stays at it for a bit longer.

Nice reference to the 2 stroke expansion chamber. Pioneered by a guy called Walter Kaaden who worked for MZ. He and one of the MZ race team's riders, Ernst Degner defected from MZ and the Eastern Bloc to Japan and went to Suzuki. Next thing you know, Suzuki became the dominating force until the other big names like Honda and Yamaha got their heads around expansion chamber tech. However, never forget the contribution made by MZ!!!

@memitim171 they're very odd bikes, but a bloody hoot to ride. Quite rare now. I own one and mines one of just 5 roadworthy examples of the model of MZ in the entire UK. I don't think they were made to be popular, they were designed to do a job n for a budget and be easy to maintain. That they did well. Sounds like yours was a TS250/1 Supa5 that you rode ^.^

Nice video! 👍 As a former racer, I was a little shocked by the strakes (“winglets”) on newer motorcycles. I also considered that downward pressure while leaned over didn’t seem quite right. You informed me that there’s a ground affect from the side fairing. I had never considered that. 🙏 Your conclusion to the video was spot on, homologation. Nice job man! Subscribed, if wasn’t already.

My idea is to have large wings on your helmet so that angle of attack can be manipulated by razing and lowering the chin. And in a corner the rider can tilt the head to the side to keep down force down. And if bike is gong to crash, rider tilts chin up and rider flies off the bike and glides to the ground smoothly. Men with strong stout necks would have an advantage in racing.
