Hey, you should try rice hull mulch to conservative moisture in those small pots- it’s been working amazingly for me. You can also easily recycle the rice hulls before you plant them outdoors.
@VeronicaFlores
@VeronicaFlores 4 года назад
Thanks for the tip! I always forget that they're good for that too. Will see if I can get my hands on some that are organic! (Is the whole arsenic bioaccumulation in rice thing still a thing?)

There's little sprinkler spouts that are made to go on pop bottles. That's what I use for indoor plant watering.

I've officially taken over the entire living room with all my seedlings, South East to South West facing. Now that I don’t have to worry about space anymore and can move everything up to the tiny house in the mountains, I’m going all out with hundreds of seedlings of each plant, really excited about trying sunflowers and peanuts this year 🌻 🥜

Yay! I love the weeklys :) I built a little poly tunnel this year on the cheap, and tried using mylar blankets pinned to the inside overnight to help keep the heat in - that worked, but there is an additional benefit: early in the morning, I can take the blankets down on one side to let the sunlight in, and it reflects off of the other side, giving the seedlings more light hours! Probably wont be able to get away with that in the kitchen .. but maybe a mirror on the far wall might not disturb the other residents?
@VeronicaFlores
@VeronicaFlores 4 года назад
That's awesome! As far as mirrors go, I'd be afraid I'd burn the house down. :P (Almost set the grass on fire last week using a crystal punch bowl as a bird bath lol. It's spray painted now.)

With all the variety in your garden - what do you do with it all? Perhaps share a video of how you store it or maybe a favorite recipe ?

Yes! Going to try and catch more of that this season for sure, but I also trade a lot with chefs and other farmers for things I like (and grow with a few of them in mind.)

I think I’ve said this before but it’s so refreshing with some one who can make a 20-30min video without a single cut. It gives me headache when people have to make a cut every 5-10 seconds 😄 I really love your videos, it triggers me to go out in the garden shed and prepare for spring 👍

Working on figuring that out still! I love a lot of spots around SB and SF but in between has been a slow search... Seaside Garden Center seems like it might be a decent place for natives though I've noticed fairly bad insect pressure on their annuals and some perennial herbs... Del Rey Oaks Gardens also seems to have a decent selection of healthier plants (but neither are comps for the nurseries in LA so the search continues.) Definitely keep an eye out at the farmer's markets around here! There are a few vendors with some great starts (and maybe consider visiting Cynthia from Love Apple Farms for her tomato and pepper sale that's going to begin here shortly- I think she still does it in Los Gatos area.)

I like when you explain your logic by saying "because that's what makes sense to me". That's gardening. If it doesn't work maybe next year something else will make sense. I have so many constraints on my garden that their is no rule of thumb for anything I do.

Late comment again. I’m just catching up on things this week. Some cucumbers are parthenogenetic- or parthenocarpic. Things that have male flowers tend to be less productive in general. I actually only buy parthenocarpic varieties...and still fail haha! Sorry if someone already pointed this out and it’s redundant.

Hi Veronica, Your video from last season on how yo top prune peepers was a great tip. Mine did very well last year in Oakville, ON Canada (our season starts mid-May to the middle of October at best. Very productive indeed after being scared about cutting them back so much. They were store-bought seedlings but going indoors go from seed this year. Great stuff!

Hi Veronica from the UK, found your channel after looking for starting fruit tree cuttings. Followed your advice and three weeks later some are showing signs of life. Brown buds started to break and signs of green. Cuttings taken from a huge apple tree that needs to be cut back. Question, the tree suffers from black spot which causes the fruit skins to split and I loose loads of fruit. Will black spot fungus be transferred to any future trees that grow from cuttings? Must get some peppers going.
@VeronicaFlores
@VeronicaFlores 4 года назад
There's definitely a solid chance that it may be transferred, as fungal issues are difficult to get rid of. Still, I'd look into treading them with some Korean Natural Farming supplements, specifically making LAB (google) and/or OHN. Sometimes I think all some plants need is an immune boost and not a death sentence (though that's not always the case.)

I've been getting kind of crazy with seeds lately. Everything that I eat that has a seed, avocado, mango, papaya, pomegranate, I've been trying to germinate the seed and grow a plant/tree. I live in Oregon and I know avocado and papaya won't grow outside so I'm starting them inside my house.(My avacado tree is about 3ft. tall) I hope to get a greenhouse to put them into later. I just have a hard time throwing away seeds ever since I tried growing my first couple of plants a few years ago.

Any advice for growing Aleppo? For me they don't produce as much as my other plants, but they are my favorite pepper.
@VeronicaFlores
@VeronicaFlores 4 года назад
Grow a few, get cuttings from them rooted before flowering, and just grow as many as you have space for! (I love them too, but their lowish volume is why I also grow Espelette.) I think organarchist on IG has had better luck with them than I have in terms of harvest volume- may be worth taking a look at his feed.
