How do you store the cuttings in refrigerator for later date? I don't want to waist my cuttings for my crepe myrtle trees

I have a great way to root fig tree cuttings. You use two cups. One cup you cut holes or use garden cutter to make slits in bottom of the cup. Put Pearlyte & Vermiculite in a cup 1/2 of each, just so it drains well doesn’t have to be precise. Score bottoms of cutting to cambium layer and add rooting hormone. Take it and put into cup,after planting in the cup with the holes put the second cup on bottom. ( cutting and mater for planting) then add water until in comes out holes- throw that water out, the second cup is the water/Moisture cup. It gives constant moisture to the fig cutting without it being to moist in soil. I then put a soda bottle on top or mainly I find a container with a lid larger than my cups with cuttings. I put the cups in and leave in part shade and part sun area inside or in my screen room when it is above 70 degrees. Every day open the container or soda bottle to give air to plant. Get spray bottle and spray water into cup that holds the water. Not to much, enough to keep it moist n the bottom of the rooting material stays a little moist, not wet. I am creating a mini green house effect. I get 100% success rate growing new fig trees. You can do on or many as long as your plant cutting with cups fit inside the container to grow a bit when leaves come in. Try it and hope it makes gardening easier

When you root cuttings in earth or potting soil, what's the ideal # of watering times per day? Thanks. When I did root cuttings in water, the fail rates went up if the temperature got too high. I've done cuttings successfully in water, but you need to batch them because there's always a fail rate, with a survivor rate also. So I'm thinking temperature getting too high would also affect earth containered cuttings. I didn't know the saran wrap and bottle top trick; that is really cool! Also my temperature ratings differenced slightly than yours. You quoted 60 to 80 degrees, but I was shooting for 65 to 75. But I didn't know about the saran wrap trick and that would have given a bit more allowances on the top temperature end, which rectifies your upper range on temps. :)

I am a little confused. Is this a cutting taken in winter, which was 'new growth' in the Spring/Summer and kept in the fridge in a zip lock back until this video was made, in early spring? Are you doing this in early April, as per the video date? I am excited to try this but want to get the details right before hacking all my trees lol. Will this work with all types of fruit trees?! Cherry, apple etc?

I think that should work too. There are some videos about it. As far as I remember you get the best results if you create a constant air flow, creating a boubling effect by adding an air pump normally used in a small fish tank.

Great video thx! Am wondering if you still use the plastic bottle method if your cutting has a few leaves at the top? Or do you always strip off ALL of the leaves off of your cuttings? I was planning to leave a couple of leaves at the top, but still use the bottle method. Thx!

So, my dog just ripped out my newly planted Peach tree and shredded the main stem. The top 24" is intact. Do you think it would be worth trying to root that portion to possibly save the tree. It is leafed out. I didn't want to waste my time if someone knows it won't work. Thanks!

I'm failing at all of this and being told NOT to use potting soil because, it has fertilizer in it and it doesn't have roots to absorb it anyway. I keep hearing course sand and or perlite? Have not tried either yet.

Terrible video. 99% of ppl are not ordering anything from a local whatever. The big box stores it is. You basically eliminated majority of the audiences follow along ability before you got started.
@VeronicaFlores
@VeronicaFlores 3 месяца назад
Already potted strawberries from the big box are fine, and you’re more than welcome to buy those from the big box and plant them instead. This video is specifically geared towards gardeners who want to work with bare root plants because of more interesting varieties available, as well as lower cost per plant. If you feel eliminated because of the (objectively) helpful parameters I’ve set for where to get *actually alive* bare root crowns, then you’re clearly not my intended audience, and would be just as well off lighting a $5 or $10 bill on fire as you would buying those mostly dead big box bare roots. I haven’t eliminated anyone - I’ve merely attempted to prevent them from experiencing the sunk cost and heartache that is working with bagged trash propagation materials. That being said, this video can also help you to evaluate if the potted varieties you’ve bought from the big box were set in their pots correctly to begin with, and what adjustments may need to be made for how the crown is situated in transplanting. In any case, I highly recommend that you try taking deeper breaths.

I found a variety called Summer Breeze Rose, has red and pink flowers with tons of super sweet berries. Its a fairly new variety but awesome. Found it at Calloways nursery in Texas. It was even organic. It was $14.99 for a six pack of pint sized starts that were very healthy. Already making berries and now that Ive planted them in other places, they have spread and are THRIVING. Organie Summer Breeze Rose is a great variety!
