The "Fox and the Hound" was my favorite of the Dark Age. It was a simple touching story; not mind-blowing perhaps, but cute, emotional, and effective. I'll always have a spot place in my heart for that incredible movie.
“Robin Hood” and “The Great Mouse Detective” are two of my favorite Disney movies of all time. It’s interesting to me that sometimes GMD is part of the Renaissance and sometimes it’s part of the “Bronze Age.” Personally, I think it’s brilliant 😊
I recently watched Toy Story 2 and I was wondering.....WHY don't the Woody collectables in Al's office come alive like the other toys? would you do a video on this? Thanks! and my favorite one is probably Lady and the Tramp.
It is probably because they don't Get enough attention and there is no reason for it to be alive the collection is mostly like posters two watch the It and there toys that have no way to move because if you had a toy gun would it come to life no that's how becuse it needs a kid to move same with the oter things
I love the Fox and the Hound. Growing up, it was one of my favourite movies. I still remember all the lyrics to "You're the best of friends" (I haven't seen the movie in about 8 years).
Am I the only one who recognized Basil from the thumbnail and knew where he was going the whole time? I mean, I didn't know the stuff about the Dark Ages and Bluth and whatnot, but I knew it was going to be the Great Mouse Detective he was talking about.
Oh, okay. Sometimes I worry about how things sound on the internet, because my tone of voice isn't there to explain things so things can be taken the wrong way. Anyways, yay for the Great Mouse Detective! :) :)
Lady Alfhildr of the Forest of Violet Mists How could anyone not know that sillouett? Plus, for once, I ACTUALLY knew all the stuff he talked about this time! (Dark age and Don Bluth, etc.)
Yes I've seen The Great Mouse Detective a bunch of times I love it. The atmosphere is amazing. Favorite Dark Age Disney movie is either The Fox and the Hound or Robin Hood.
Yes, I saw The Great Mouse Detective. I did love it! Seeing the action in the movie theater was super! However, my favorite Disney Dark Ages movie is Robin Hood. The rooster narrating through folk song is genius! (Side note: my favorite Don Bluth illustrated work is Small One about the donkey who carried the Virgin Mary to Bethlehem. It used to make my sister and me cry every Christmas.)
I love the great mouse detective. I squealed like a fan girl when I realized Darkwing Duck's trigger to enter his crime fighting cave was a statue of Basil XD
oddly enough, my first disney film was a dark age movie. and by first, I mean, I got that thing for my first birthday. 16 years ago. What movie? The Fox and the Hound. But I have to say, I've always been a cat person, so my fave had to be The Aristocats (I still know all of the songs ;p)
I grew up with the dark age movies from Disney and absolutely loved all of them. If I can find those movies again I plan to show them to my kids when I have them.
Blueth (?) made some AMAZING movies. Both of which I recall with great fondness as an important chunk of my young movie watching days. I also enjoyed almost all of the Disney Dark Age movies, though they were disliked by my sibling. Also, I think Jungle book probably counts as a dark age movie given that, despite its awesome characters, the story is kinda lacking.
_Dragon's Lair_ , _Space Ace_ , and _Dragon's Lair II : Time Warp_ were just epic. I loved them all in the arcade back in the day ('83-85) and now they are on the multi-cade hard drive based arcade boards. All the animation is available to watch on RU-vid.
my name is olivia & the little mouse in the great mouse detective is named olivia, so as a kid, i adored that movie & still have a soft spot for it. i would also say i love a lot of the dark age movies, but i love robin hood, the fox & the hound, the black cauldron & oliver & company the best. :)
Seriously? 4 of the Bronze Age Disney films are some of my favorites. Especially The Fox and The Hound. That one MADE MY CHILDHOOD! Oliver in Company was also a really big part of my childhood.
Winnie the Pooh was actually a collection of short films/specials that started coming out in the 60s. It wasn’t until the 70s that they were fully released as The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. And I totally loved it as a kid.
I think it’s hilarious the Sherlock Holmes is my favorite fictional character (with Iron man) and as a child The Great Mouse Détective it was my favorite movie! I guess some things never change 😂
Disney also fired John Lasseter, the guy who was one of the founders of Pixar and made Toy Story. They fired him because he wanted Disney to make Computer Animated movies. "If it's not cheaper or faster, there's no point" is what they told him the day he was fired. And technically The Jungle Book is still in Walt's time because that was the last movie he worked on prior to his death.
Yes I saw the great mouse detective. I loved it so much. And all of the dark age movies are my favorites except the black cauldron because I never saw it before.
For me, it's probably tied between The Aristocrats and the Fox and the Hound My parents were kids during the Disney Dark Age, so they never really got into Disney because they didn't really enjoy the movies Disney was releasing at the time.
I am so sad that Aristocats, Robin Hood, The Rescuers, and The Fox and the Hound are part of the dark age. Those were some of my favorites as a young child.
When you think about it, The Great Mouse Detective and The Little Mermaid, the movies that saved Disney Animation and made them becoming the great studio again have one thing in common: They were directed by John Musker and Ron Clements who went on to do Aladdin, Hercules, Treasure Planet (which isn't bad in my opinion, just the least favorite of the bunch, good but not great), The Princess and the Frog and Moana/Vaiana. It's a shame that John Musker is going to retire, as he could have kept on going like other Disney artists such as Joe Ranft, Roy E Disney and even Burny Mattinson who's STILL at Disney (though it's currently unknown what he's working on, the last known word that he was going to pitch a full-lenght animated movie starring Mickey Mouse, and that was eight years ago). Ron Clements on the other hand hasn't said anything about retirement, so he might be still keep on going. It will be interesting to see what he can accomplish without his friend and companion Musker or if he'll cooperate with other Disney directors.
Been watching this channel for years, and only now picking up on the quick cut editing.. Works really well, but now I am curious to see what the raw cuts of these videos look like. A bloopers of production type section, similar to how 'the know' used to do at the end of their videos.
i love so many of the dark age films. If I had to pick a favourite it would be Oliver and company. I really love that one. I'm a film maker myself and currently studying a masters in animation. The more I learn about what constitutes a successful film the more angry I get that it's all box office. I understand it's a business but I dont always feel like the money is the most important aspect. I loved Oliver and Company and think it's ridiculously sweet, wish more people would give it a chance. That soundtrack!
This may be because my mum showed me these films when I was little but I actually realy liked the "dark age" of Disney animation all except the black cauldron which I had never heard of until now But still I absolutely loved the great mouse detective
I really liked Winnie the Pooh and The Rescuers. I never saw the last two movies of the Dark Age yet, but I plan to. Even though I haven't seen it yet, The Great Mouse Detective I know is good because anything with Vincent Price in it is destined to have a good legacy. We're talking House on Haunted Hill and Thriller here! Both classics.
My favorite dark age Disney movie is hands down, "The Great Mouse Detective"; with "Robin Hood", and "The Fox & The Hound" coming in at a close second. And I do agree that such a great movie is criminally underrated (especially considering that such a movie like "The Great Mouse Detective" could NEVER be made today in the west, considering our current social climate, and the hypersensitive nutcases now acting as its gatekeepers, and perpetrators.)
1. I have seen The Great Mouse Detective. 2. Of course I loved it, because it’s the only Disney Bronze/Dark Age movie I have ever watched other than 3. Winnie the Pooh.
My favorite Disney dark age movie is actually The Sword In The Stone. Not many people seem to like that one, though. I do also love The Black Cauldron. (Then again, I have a habit of liking movies people usually don't like 🤷)
Yes, I've seen it, and to be honest it kind of bothered as a small child. I thought it was a tiny not creepy. I mean, I'm sure if I rewatched it now, I would think it's okay, but still be thinking about that in the back of my mind. My favorite bronze age movie is Oliver and Company. I loved the dogs in the movie😊
I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE THE ARISTOCATS!!!!!!!!!! I watched it a lot, it's hilarious, it has great music, the plot is super easy to follow, and in my opinion, is the greatest movie of ALL TIME!!!
Benny Boi I love Robin Hood but I also love aristocats and I'm disappointed that such great movies are stuck in such a stereotypical time period 😔 (also very proud of my choice of words in this cuz I'm only 10)
i have fond memories of Winnie the pooh and the aristocats 😺 We lost are coppy of the aristocats when I was little so if been nagging my parents for last couple of years to try and get another coppy 😿 Also I love the great mouse detective im pretty sure it's on Netflix if you have not seen this ... Go see it now !
As much as I love both Disney's The Great Mouse Detective and Don Bluth's An American Tail, both released at the same time in 1986, I actually feel that Great Mouse Detective is the better film, despite being beaten by American Tail at the box office. For one, Vincent Price as Ratigan...that's awesome! Two, it wasn't as depressing as American Tail, despite the fact we never see a single ray of sunlight. And three, there was no annoying mouse who sounded like she learned English from Elmer Fudd.
KTChamberlain I prefer An American Tail personally. As fun as the Great Mouse Detective is, An American Tail always makes me feel better because of its darkness. It will torture you and make you agonize over Feifell until he finally gets home in one of the happiest endings in Animated Movie History. Plus, it just seems smarter. Everything’s a metaphor, whearas in The Great Mouse Detective it’s really just a bunch of Mouse puns. Again, I love both but American Tail takes the lead for me
For me American Tail just went a bit too far. Don Bluth has always been known for being painful to watch. To be clear that's not a bad thing as it makes his movies have a very powerful impact and be remembered forever but it does also make his movies less enjoyable on a surface level. A land before time had that cringiness to it as well but was still fun enough that I want to watch it. American Tail is just painful that even though it will make me feel I just don't want to watch it. That's also why I don't consider Anastasia a Disney movie. It has that cringiness to it as well.
Agreed. American Tail was expensive than GMD, but it did not have any positive reviews. While Great Mouse Detective was a lower budget success and had low money than American Tail, it was more well liked than American Tail
+SuperCarlinBrothers I haven't seen that movie, but I will check it out when I can. The fox and the hound is my favorite Disney dark age movie. Thanks for these amazing theories!! Your like Matpat with Disney theories.
The Great Mouse Detective you say? Why my good man that was the first Disney movie I watched in my life(that I remember latest.) Also Aristocats is my favorite Dark Ages film.
