We in the Portland, Oregon area are proud of our bridges. We have swing bridges, bascule bridges including a rare Rall drawbridge (Broadway Bridge) and we have the oldest lift span still in operation (Hawthorne Bridge) and the world’s only double deck independent lift bridge (Steel Bridge)
Jake: "Well thank you, pal. On the day I get out of prison, my own brother picks me up--in a police car." Elwood: "You don't like it?" Jake: "No, I don't like it." [Elwood stomps gas pedal, jumps Bluesmobile over an opening drawbridge.] Jake: "Car's got a lot of pick-up."
Would be helpful for future archiving, not to mention your sales, if you included “Construction of Houghton-Hancock (Portage Lake lift bridge)” in the title, as that composes a large portion of the video, yet a search would not reveal that.
The intermediate position is a great design. The only other way to have continuous road/river traffic would have been to build a separate railroad bridge at significant additional expense.
@@65gtotrips The upper level is paved, the bottom level has railroad tracks but is also paved (think streetcar tracks). When the bridge is in the middle position the level with the paved railroad tracks lines up with the road. When a train needs to cross they lower the bridge all the way and the cars drive across on the upper paved level.
Lift bridges are the most elegant movable bridges due to their symmetry? I don't agree. The towers stick out like two sore thumbs. The symmetrical Chicago bascule bridges are definitely the most beautiful.
Nope, not 1970. The cars, neat proper way people are dressed and the lack of Congestion indicates a 1960 date, year I was born. Those were good times, when American products were good.
