Lea Salonga has done a great job taking care of her voice. She still sounds youthful, her intonation is perfect, her range has expanded and her sound has become more fully rounded. She can still sing Kim like no one else.
@@darylmilan Eva is in Hadestown broadway and has 2 tony nominations. She did both a leading role on BROADWAY. Rachelle did hamilton on the Westend. Hope that Rachelle will be given a lead broadway role and earn even a nomination.
Rachelle owned Gigi's Character, she's is now my forever favorite Gigi. And Lea Salonga is just irreplaceable as Kim. Lea's accent here though, she can go sound American, British and Filipino, how great is that?
I don't understand all the criticism of Rachelle? She sounds incredible to my ears! Just because Lea may be better, definitely doesn't lower Rachelle's talent at all.
I think Rachelle actually performed better in this particular performance. I saw her in Miss Saigon in October and she was incredible. The emotion in her voice just blew me away. Honestly the entire show blew me away
JoeNoseNothing No, Rachelle was much better in her actual Miss Saigon role than here. Here she was just singing the song based on what she knew about the musical. Her performance at the musical showed she had internalized her role's numbers.

Difference between these two: Ms. Lea started Saigon way way way back. Even tho she started long time ago, her voice in the auditions I've watched in RU-vid really fits her in the theater industry. Her tone, diction, clearly you will hear the difference between them. While Rachelle, well we know she's one of the Diva/Biritera when she started her career as a singer/performer. It was actually kind of amazing how well she can sing theater-like sound for a Diva herself. And I am so proud of her being in the production of Saigon. For sure, a few more years in the theater, she'll be much much better. And their performance here is really good. I mean yeah. I like them both 😊
OMG....Lea Saloga's voice has only mellowed with age. What an absolutely beautiful tone and control. She sings with passion and conviction. When she started singing, you were transported back in time to when she was the Kim in Miss Saigon. Her shoes are still to be filled. She set the bar so high in the 1989 - in the Original Shows not only with her innocence(18) but her raw singing and acting talent, at the time, that only an extraordinary singer can come close. Rachel's voice was rich but still has not got that mellowed tone, control and edge to it. The trouble with many of these up and coming singers, they try too hard to imitate Lea's voice instead of singing the song their way. Lea is and always be THE VOICE of Kim in Miss Saigon, no matter how many actresses play the part, she is the VOICE of the Philippines. A beautiful, humble, classy, highly intelligent and a well acclaimed Actress and Singer the World has seen and had the pleasure to have experienced her talents. God Bless this WOMAN.
Rachelle has the talent and will go far in musical theater.....needs a bit of polishing but the VOICE is there.... Lea has always been the best KIM ever and has maintained the quality in her singing voice ever since she played the role for the first time. Good Good JOB on both of you! Make us proud.
I've seen Rachell Ann perform tonight and her voice has changed!!! She doesn't sound like a pop singer anymore but she's learnt voice control and she sounds fit for theatre now.

You can understand every single word Lea sings. In addition to delivering a great vocal she imbues it with emotions that take the song to another level.
I've clearly understand their tune even their voice as well. but the one thing is perhaps that I like the voice of rachelle ann go...it could be change my life her voice EVER!
Rarely, you hear Lea gasp for air... she really has good breathing technique compared to other singers... she's really made for live performances/& stage musicals. She's still the one!!!
I love Lea. One of the first musical theater voices I fell in love with, but if you think her voice sounds better than Rachelle's in this video, you are in denial.
There's no denial here, it's all a matter of opinion and tastes. Even though Rachelle is a goddamn amazing singer, I still think Lea effortlessly outstages her by the sheer richness of her voice tone alone. Rachelle sounds very emotive but her tone is rather shallow, it gives out a more piercing edge to her voice, while Lea's voice even at this age is creamy, full and well-rounded. Lea doesn't even have to try to make riffs or attempt any ad libs, she just opens her mouth and the sound that comes off of her is among the most heavenly sounds I've heard. Rachelle tries hard and succeeds, I'll give her that - Lea succeeds without even trying, she did so back when she was 18/19 and played Kim at Broadway, and she does in present date. But i respect Rachelle's talent a lot! I wish her the best.

I liked Rachelle Ann from the time she won in the contest.. but I started to like her a lot the moment I saw her singing broadway songs like Part of Your World! I never knew a stereotyped biritera like her could sing broadway songs so very good! and this video? well thanks a lot Tim Chen, it's a rare opportunity to see a Legend and a promising star sharing the stage for such a wonderful performance! I simply love both of them --- Ms. Lea Salonga & Ms. Rachelle Ann Go.
I had goosebumps while watching.. Both of them have powerful voices.. Kudos to both, Ms. Lea Salonga (Original Kim of Miss Saigon) and Ms Rachelle Ann Go (Modern day Gigi) :D
You cannot compare Rachel to Lea.. Lea may be the original Kim, the Greatest to ever play the role and never will there be ever going to be perfect as her for the role because LEA SALONGA is the only KIM. but.. Don't compare rachel to her, shes not kim, she is GIGI. She may not be as "Great" as Lea, I mean who is?? Not even the new Kim (Ava) is but rachel is fit for her role. Shes brilliant and for Ava, I know shes will always be compared to Lea but always think that you are blessed to have been chosen for the role of Kim and thats something that a lot of girls can only dream for. I wish I will be able to watch Miss Saigon on Broadway. Someday.

Of course Lea and Rachelle are wonderful performers. It seems that this is the first time they are singing this duet together, right? So interesting to compare this and about 9 months later when they sang together for the MISS SAIGON 25th Anniversary. Please note: this version is in a key a half step lower than the one they sang in at the anniversary show. I think that's why I find the anniversary performance more exciting - the notes they are hitting just sound more satisfying in both their voices. That's just my two cents.
