THE MOVING VLOG: moving from nyc to dc! movers, first night in my NEW apartment, layout ideas etc 

I'm liking the vlogs lately, I feel like you're very honest about things and don't sugar coat issues or your feelings, but you're also not whining. I appreciate that.

Okayyyy love the new space so much. Here are some ideas: 1. Pull the rug out so just the edges are under the couch 2. Get cute bar stools for under the counter 3. I’d get rid of the desk, round white table, white seat and get a large round dining table for the alcove and work from there/counter/couch 4. Def keep the metal bar cart in the kitchen, put kitchen aid on it 5. Gallery wall above couch and large print above bed 6. Try getting hinges that go the other way so the door opens into the closet. A task rabbit can help you install them 7. Closed ikea shoe rack in the entry way, maybe change up the knobs to add more color

I don’t understand how this keeps happening Kristee! The past 3 times you’ve moved, I’ve also moved in the same week/month. I’m about to move again on Thursday to a new state. Your moving vlogs are always the best and I just love that it’s always when I’m moving too somehow 🤣

For storage I personally use the vacuum seal bags and put them in my luggage or on top of the closet (clothes not in season) and change it out. Move the bed and close the closet door and put the bed back in the same place. You’ll be able to open/close it without a problem

Maybe go down to having just one night stand beside your bed and the door would close?? Hard to judge the space you have as a viewer, but just thought I would suggest this to you. The other lamp and night stand could get used elsewhere in the apartment.

It’s kind of weird that the builder didn’t put a pocket door where the closet and bedroom is so that there is more room in the bedroom for a bed!

IKEA has those thin shoe storage bins that can fit by the front door and double as shoe storage and an entry table

Hear me out … free stand your desk in the center of the alcove?? With a great rug…

I love the new space. I highly recommend the ikea hemnes shoe cabinet for by the door, it says it holds 8 but we put our shoes into it in a way that we get more pairs in it. we have the short one too so we have a mirror above it for last second checks. we have more shoes than fit in it, but all our daily go to's and more fit in it. then you can style the top too, little key dish, candles, the works ya know

Most people don’t actually have cable today, so they likely figure that if you have a tv in the bedroom it will be for streaming, so the bed likely is meant to go on the wall with the door entry. Then put a dresser with a tv where you currently have the bed.

Put your air fryer and your toaster in the cabinets!! Put your kitchen aid where you have the air fryer if you arent trying to clutter your kitchen.

You should try maybe consulting with a decorator! You have so much great space to fill!

you should get those narrow shoe storage cabinets for the entryway! gives you storage plus a space on top for a bowl for keys and such. also if you have room, a freestanding wardrobe with hanging space/shelving would be great!

what a fun space!! Here are some ideas from a former hgtv enthusiast: - put your desk on the right side of the alcove, facing the window, that way you don't get glares on your screen and have better lighting/a better background for meetings. I can also see your desk going in the corner between your living room and kitchen, perhaps facing the rest of the living room, that way you're not staring at a wall all day. That can create a cozy little mini "office" feel - on the left side of the alcove, put a rectangular dining table (that seats 4-6) with its short side against the slanted wall - i know you said you don't want a new couch but I think a larger one (specifically L shaped like you mentioned) would elevate the space and make it feel more homey and grown up -someone else mentioned it, but i''d get a narrow shoe cabinet for the entryway - love you kristee but that round table has got to go - it doesn't add anything to the space functionally and imho isn't that aesthetically pleasing. I think replacing it, along with your other white furniture will elevate the vibes - your apartment has so much potential to feel grown up and I think just adding a few pieces and switching out others will make all the difference! excited to see what you do :)

Kristee, never leave an air fryer plugged into the outlet unless you're actually using it. Air fryers are notorious for catching fire. Love your new apartment!!

Buy a chair that matches you couch and you will be fine. Get you a small dinning table in the corner where all the boxes where or get bar stools. Leave the black shelf where it is an put decor on it. It matches the kitchen and livingroon. Love the shelf in the kitchen in front of the fridge. Put current Tv in your bedroom. Its the perfect size and then get a bigger one from Walmart they are on sale. Love how your place is looking so far and congrats again gurl!!!

Eeeee so excited for you Kristee! Can't wait to see what you do with the space! When moving I find it super helpful when unpacking to just put things in the room I know they need to go in first - and then organize each room one at a time. I find this helps it make it a bit more manageable, and easier to visualize how it could be organized :) For your living room - I know you said you didn't want to replace your couch with an L couch - but what if you just got another of your same couch and kind of placed them in an L shape? It could break up the living room from the office space a bit that way too.

With doors, you can change how they swing out so I'd look into that and check if it would be okay. Another idea for the desk is a corner one, since it would give you more space.

You could also get a sectional. Put it on the small wall with the sectional coming out a it’ll keep your “office” area separate. Then put your tv across from the couch on the wall and your table in the corner by the kitchen. The bump outs in that core we are perfect for chairs. Plus the table show be by the kitchen

If you get one or two of those tall metal shelving units (like the one in the kitchen) you can put baskets or those square containers that are the size of a milk crate on the shelves and fill them with overflow shoes or anything. That could be placed where your black shelving unit is now. Where your desk is now that desk height is low enough to go in front of the window. Could go in the kitchen where the metal shelf is now and that shelf could be used as a kitchen island or vanity table with counter stool in your bedroom. One could go in your bedroom on the wall where your round mirror was leaning. They are very sturdy and hold a lot of weight. Your round table would be nice in the corner where you had the blow up bed. Couldn’t tell if you kept the closet door closed is there enough room for you to get in and out if the door only opens as far as the bed. Over the door shoe storage is also an option. Could hang on the back of your bedroom door and closet door. If you get a trunk/coffee table you can store blow up bed, extra bedding and pillow for company. Can add plexiglass on top of trunk. They also make taller storage/trunk type end tables for either side of your couch to put lamps. Counter stools would be nice. Rome wasn’t built in a day. Take your time. Enjoy the process.

IKEA has the Hemnes, Stahl, or Brusali shoe cabinets. They are slim and could fit in your entry.

You MUST go to East West Coffee & Wine in Clarendon - it has amazing coffee & food, is a perfect remote working spot, and they serve alcohol. It’s my favorite place in Arlington!

For storage, make sure to get dual-purpose furniture!!! The TV stand can have drawers, ottoman should have a space for stuff, etc.

In the bedroom, try removing the sise table on the right, pushing the bed against the wall aga then placing the side table on that titled wall... might work? And maybe make it possible to close the door aswell?

Be sure to pull the air fryer a few inches from the wall when you use it so the heat doesn’t burn the tiles

I see what you’re saying about the storage, but this place has so much wall space you should definitely invest in a lot of hanging storage or off the floor. Like you could do those over the door shoe storage is behind one of your closet doors. I’m thinking a hanging shelf in your entryway to collect stuff.

So many strange angles. I would move around the bed to se if you could find a better placement. Did you bring the bed frame? Looking forward to seeing the space come together.

Don’t plug Kitchen appliances like air fry and mixers and such till you use. They clutter counters you don’t want to be decorating around a cord. Just put stuff away in kitchen. Rearrange after you see everything out and run grocery list on notepad. And make sure you have when ordering on line. Believe me that will save money every time

Get a large dresser for a tv stand so you have extra storage

You could move the bed over enough to close the door And put shelves on the wall instead of a bedside table. You have enough room in the living room to put the table in there

You can order covers for your refrigerator handles and it will pad them. Its what I did

I haven’t read all the comments but why don’t you place both of the little night stands together on the side where the door is, of course that means you will be pushing the bed further over towards the windows, but that will increase the area between the bed and the closet door and you should be able to close it. Place a scarf or look for a tray on top of the night stands to hide where they come together. It will just look like a single, wider nightstand. Just a suggestion from a military wife of 26 years who has moved into all kinds of apartments and homes😊

you can have your refrigerator door's reversed so they open in so they won't hit the wall... I would put the bumper pad on the wall too. Congratulations on your apt. can't wait to see it with your decor.

Shame you can’t get door re hung the other side or get a barn type door. Eventually you can replace your furniture. I love your sofa. Dark wood would look good and warm the space up

Do you ever find it to be such a pain in the butt, when it comes to unpacking stuff after a move? On the other hand, it’s so easy to pack things up.

Try the couch on the smaller wall. Then on the larger wall you can have the tv stand and you table and chairs. Make the alcove your office space
